WARNING for all new players: this game is fucking addicting lol. havent seen a game like this in a while. an MMO that is built around strategy/timing instead of button mashing...they did a really nice job converting this.
1. You cant just buy potions like in other games, they are hard to come by and as a last resort. good to have a priest in your party but most suck anyway and dont heal party members
2. a lot of the bosses are just being able to read there patterns and learning what to do, but of course you still get idiots that just run up and start hitting it cause there used to other games. you will die in 2 hits if you dont pay attention in this game.
3. pvp is pretty fun/challenging
4. limited gameplay so bots/abusers/etc cant just get to the highest level in a week. pretty good idea imo.
Yeah this is turning out to be a really fun game, ESPECIALLY when you do dungeons with friends. I think one of the reasons it's so amazing is that it beckons back to the days of the 2d side scrolling beat em ups you'd dump coins into at the arcade machines with your friends. A huge gripe I have is with the crappy netcoding >_> people are always lagging and it ruins the partying... :\

it is good practice to check and re-check your party before entering a dungeon, dont rush. if i see any hint of lag, i just expel.
most of the time the laggers are really dumb anyways, they have fire wall turned on, they are playing with below specs, using a proxy outside of NA, etc.

This as opposed to every 2D fantasy beat'em'up ever why?

That's what this game is all about man.
1. If you were able to buy pots the game would be boring as fuck. It makes it far more challenging.
2. Yup. It isn't that hard. Take it nice and slow. Time your hits. The bosses only two hit you if you are playing on Kings Road.
3. This game is pretty well balanced. People will always bitch and complain about the Gunners, but in reality they're pretty easy to counter. This game reminds me of SF. It's disgusting how much fun it is. It plays a lot more like a good fighting game. Definitely a good cross over between a fighter and a MMO. Implementing the Web shop though would be total BALLS. Players should have to work for their gear through the Dungeons or Creation.
4. I loathed fatigue at the beginning, but this is a very good point. It's actually a very good idea. I've seen many players whine about not being able to buy pots AND the fatigue bar. In reality, these features are the best to keep the game well-balanced and fair for all players.
I'm pretty sure I've already half assed my character builds, so I'm planning on picking up all the active skills (assuming I have the SP for it) for my character's chosen class to get a feel for the skills and then rerolling. sucks though since the leveling pace seems to start slowing dramatically around the early level 20s.
At this level there are glaring imbalances. Gunners are by far the strongest at this point. Windmill outranges and outprioritizes everything. Get jack spike or BBQd and half ur life is gone. The goddamn bots are annoying. They simply have no bad matchup at low lvls. Maybe priest can beat them by abusing super armor.

Just wait until they nerf the slayer and priest you'll see how i got destoryed everytime in korean version.
I HAVE A MASSIVE POST BUT TL REFORMATS MY TEXT WHAT DO I DOOOO It's the skill list for battlemages ( ) semi-translated (not sure if I got everything right, my japanese is pretty bad and I had to use a kanji dictionary for parts of it x_x)
Edit: Really though is there anywhere I can upload raw .txt? I spent a while on this ;;
I wish they would release the new class(rogue) once its fully release that people can wreck habit on those strikers, nen masters and switch class cause the rogue DESTORYS! on combos
Nen Masters suck so I dunno why you would even mention them.
At low levels it's something like gunner -> slayer -> fighter -> mage -> priest but whatever. If you hate gunners, improve your movement and spacing (also learn to bait out windmill/jackspike/BBQ if they are just throwing them out whenever you get close). Getting higher levels isn't going to help you if you don't know how to use the tools you have right now, since it's not like having a bigger, shinier combo is going to help you if you still don't know how to get in and start it.
All the melee classes (except I guess Exorcists?) have low cost, advancing attacks that can have their momentum/direction manipulated fairly easily. Fighter/BM uppercut, fighter hammer kick, slayer moonlight slash, etc. Slayer jump -> divestab, fighter jump -> spinkick, gunner air raid -> jump -> shoot backwards, etc. for examples of moves to give you more air movement options.
An example would be, say, BM getting slightly "above" (further into the background than) the gunner in a position where he won't get shot, then doing dash -> uppercut (hold down-forward) to slide past shots and end up hitting where the gunner is. If that lands, BM does huge combo, now BM is on top of gunner. If not, BM is closer now and has more options to get that first hit. Of course the gunner has ways to deal with that, but being able to do that keeps the gunner from just mindlessly putting stuff on the screen.
Gunners ARE the best early-game PvP but the real issue is that pretty much nobody PvPing at low levels is any good. Can't wait for all the "BM is imba" complaints that are going to come up in a few weeks. (BMs actually are/were god tier but they got patched a lot so now they're just top tier... but DFO is probably on an older patch).
