Info: Jung "Jjakji" Ji Hoon is a Korean Terran playing for mYinsanity. He is known for a rock-solid early-game that gets followed up by heavy mid-game aggression that is powered by near-perfect macro and some of the best marine micro since MKP's run in GSL2. At only 19 years of age he is already feared by many pro-gamers in Korea and looks to be one of the most promising youths in GSL. He was the youngest player to win a GSL event in GSL November 2011.
Jjakji managed to qualify for 2010 Sony Ericsson Starcraft II Open Season 2 where he lost to Zenio in the Ro64. He was unable to qualify for GSL again and went unseen for around 6 months before he made an appearance in 2011 Global StarCraft II Team League Season 1. In decisive fashion, Jjakji all-killed FXOpen e-Sports.
Code A Jjakji qualified for 2011 Global StarCraft II League August, defeating Junwi in his final preliminary match. He then went on an impressive winning streak beating two promising Zergs, Luvsic and Lucky, without dropping a set. His first run through Code A would finally end in the Round of 8, losing a close 1-2 to MarineKing. In the Up and Down Matches, Jjakji tied with Check and LosirA for first in the group with a score of 3-1. After two playoff rounds, Jjakji and Losira emerged the victors of the two Code S spot. Code S Jjakji debuted in Code S in GSL October, in which he managed to place third in his group, failing to advance, but keeping his Code S spot for the next season.
During the 2011 GSL November, Jjakji was defeated by Killer then won against SuperNoVa and Virus in the Round of 32. With the score of 2-1, he would advance into the Round of 16 for Code S.In the round of 16 he would be placed in the same group as Mvp and Gumiho after the fourth player in the group Coca withdrew from Code S following his involvement in a match fixing scandal. He would lose to Mvp but defeat Gumiho to secure second place in his group yet again to qualify for the round of 8. After showing strong TvP in his Ro8 and semi final games against Puzzle and Oz winning 3-0 and 3-2 respectively, he defeated Leenock 4-2 in his first GSL finals.
Macro monster, definitely one of the best Terrans. I think he is the ace of his team, as much as Artosis loves Seal and Sage. I can't believe this guy hasn't been noticed by Artosis at all.
Ever since I saw this guy in the Korean ICCUP Weekly Ive been a fan. He's got sick micro that reminds me of marineking when he played well. SIGN ME UP! Code A champion right here because with Leenock's luck, there's no way he's getting that automatic code S bid Jjakji is a beast
He might even replace San as my favorite Hoseo player :D

Agreed, he's their best player comfortably, annoying how he gives him no credit at all whilst blabbering on about BANBANS and San. All Protoss team blablablabla.
This guy has superb marine splitting. I haven't seen his TvP yet so I'm not sure how good he is in it, but his TvZ is one of the best out there. Will be hoping he does well in GSL!

However, don't sign me up though.
You can check out the games against OptikZero and especially Oz that he played in GSTL, a beautifully solid style. It surprises me every time how he handles every early game situation with ease.
Jjakji is going to play against mkp in the code a ro8 in about 10-11 hours or so (last series of the session). Make sure to tune in, this is a really big game for him.
Definitely sign me up. I've seen him play personally and had talked to San about him. he is, in my opinion, the best player on Hoseo, if not, then definitely the best terran there. I expect so much from him.
It's no secret this guy's insane, he's another one of those that just had to take some time getting into Code S. I'm sure he'll be hitting ro8's and maybe even semifinals in code S very soon.

glorious edit because he just destroyed MC to force a three player tiebreaker.
If only he hadn't been so indecisive vs Check he'd have rolled through today.
i think he underestimated check a bit and thought he could just roll through him with your standard 2 base timings. Had he done the same strat he did vs LosirA it would've been the most one-sided rape.

Sounds about right.
The way he played vs Losira was sick. Maxed in sub 15m with +2/+2, his fourth base done, and a fuckton of production up. Then hit an awesome timing right before Hive tech.

Sign me up! His play in the GSL today was so inspiring, he seems really intelligent and you could tell that his games were really well planned out. I'll definitely be rooting for him in the future!
Yay Jjakji won! =D I knew this guy was good since that interview where NsHoseo protosses hyped up their terrans without them being in the gsl yet. I didn't see the games but read the LR thread, so baller that he won with mech + air, will check the free vod. Sign me up plz
Gotta give credit where credit is due. I'm a protoss player and I watched Jjakji vs Puzzle and he just blew me away... I've never seen a terran play TvP quite like he did... I think Puzzle is one of the best if not THE best PvTer in the world as he normally just steamrolls terrans, but Jjakji found an amazing way to play against Puzzle. Very impressive.
Artosis better stop hating on jjakji! Oz played just like in the MMA series. A lot of allins and cheese, not so much straight up play so he feels jjakji would win macro games. Somebody gets all the hype while our hero gets dissed for playing the wrong race. Marauders gonna maraud
Super big Oz fanboy here, I'm impressed by Jjakji's solid+consistent play. He really knew how to dismantle Oz in the longer games, good job Jjajki despite my sadness with Oz losing.
So happy for jjakji right now, i've been talking about how good he is for months now and he's finally showing everyone just how good he is. Looking forward to a great finals and hopefully he can win and if not atleast show some good games.
OMG lol such a useful list of VODs and replays! i was individually going through all the korean weeklies to see which ones he played in, if he played vs protoss at all, and then try to find the VODs haha (to see if he does any other non-bio play including biomech or mech or mech air)
Why haven't I posted here yet? I have been a huge Jjakji fan since his appearance in team league. I am so pumped to see him take Leenock in the finals :O
Yay Jjakji won again :D. I think that he can win against Leenock depending on the maps and his preparation. It will be very hard because even if he is good in TvZ, Leenock is on fire and riding a momentum (dunno if "riding a momentum" means something tho XD) and will probably have a ton of good practice partners. I hope that he will win even if Leenock winning won't bother me except if it's a 4-0 or 4-1.

i was getting really annoyed at everyone dismissing jjakji. It felt as if it was just me and half a dozen other people who actually knew he was a good player, considering nearly EVERYONE was saying "lol who's jjakji? leenock 4-0 ezpz"
2-0 so far. ;D
i have to admit i still want leenock to win, but I'm really glad Jjakji's shown his skill. Hoping for a 4-3. ^^

I think a lot of us Jjakji fans are in the same boat. He hasn't really shown enough on televised matches to get my vote against Leenock
Not going to say sign me up as it's total bandwagonning but... if you ever check this Jjakji... congratulations man, you clearly prepared really hard for those games and deserve to be the champ!

He's the next Terran legend. Amazing solid play, his scans on those burrowed banelings were like map hacks LOL. God he played smart, no clue how you could scan so perfectly he's a genius.
Last game showed he really understood Terran, his movements were just right, it was beautiful to see Leenock totally clueless on what to do. Deserved champion.

In fact, I'm happy he won. I think I'm a fan. ;D
Polt didn't even have a fanclub when he won the Super Tournament, and now his fanclub his doing well! Plus some NSHS players are streaming, so we can expect Jjakji to stream since the GSL period is over, the players don't have anything to hide anymore! Aaaah the last game was so good, especially decision-making wise
I missed GSL what was the score? Can't say sign me up before I see those games, but if he is as good as the hype count me in:D I love me some good terran!
I couldn't watch the match live because I had a friend's party - too bad as this was one of my most anticipated finals, and the player I wanted to win won to boot!
Amazing player... wow. Never even heard of him until reading the GSL finals preview article as I haven't been following the GSL as much lately and went to watch game one and no joke had to buy the season ticket after that epic game one just to see the rest and it was money well spent. Best finals of any tournament so far, just edging Thorzain/Naniwa in TSL3 only b/c of the incredibly high level of play. Unreal. Sign me up.
I feel slightly hypocritical doing this, because i've still got to update the fanclubs I'm in charge of, but:

It's been nearly four months since this FC was updated. Hopefully the OP comes back soon, because Jjakji's going to garner a lot more attention from now on.
EDIT: okay the OP's last post seems to have been three months ago. Maybe a hardcore Jjakji fan should see if they can take this fanclub over if the OP doesn't return soon?
Sign me up! I have seen good players, bad players, creative players, consistent players and everything in between but I have never seen that bleeding edge level of play outside of Naniwa's run in MLG Providence.
So proud of Jjakji's play this whole season, he has been among the top of korean players since early this summer but never really got the attention he deserves, i hope that will change now and the he will continue to work as hard going in to 2012.
Also would be great if Asha` or someone else who feel that they can be in charge of the fanclub took over as the OP has been away for several months.

I think Jjakji's age is incorrect (it's two years off). I'm pretty sure liquipedia has the correct date at 4-16-1994. He is 17, and it was stated in the interview that his Korean age is 18.
Edit: and sign me up as well. I'm a sucker for young Terrans with strong macro and good overall mechanics.

So is Jjakji 19 or 17? This and TLPD say he's 19 but every interview I've ever read with him has talked about how he's 17 and it was kinda a big deal for this GSL finals, wasn't it? How old is he actually?

TLPD says 19, korean age 20. I don't think changing to Korean age adds two years to your age ever...

If he were 17 his Korean age should be 18, unless April 16 isn't his actual birth date.

I just realized that CoCa was in Jjakji's Ro16 group. I wonder how it would have turned out differant if he still ended up playing, but probably now that differantly considering TvZ wasn't CoCa's best matchup.

Agreed, wow. It's unbelievable how he controls his scvs/repairs armies and buildings so well all at the same time. His micro is incredible too, and his drops against protoss are some of the best I've ever seen.
Remember that Jjakji is playing in gsl code s tomorrow in the first group of the season, against sen in the first match and then eighter boxer or ganzi. Gogo get your season/year passes for gsl and cheer for him.
Wooo, some very cagey TvT but he got there in the end. I don't think he's quite as bad at the match up as some people are trying to say right now, he was in some very bad situations several times but really played out of them well for the most part.
Ugh, given his TvT if he gets picked in a Ro16 group with at least 2 other terrans things might not look so good =/
That said, those games vs Sen. Oh man, some clinical TvZ. I know Artosis does this hype thing, but Jjakji at least proving that his TvZ championship was probably based off his best MU.

I still don't think his TvT is going to be a huge issue, it just won't be as strong as his vZ and maybe not his vP.
G1 Ganzi just played mech very well on a map where mech is obviously very very good.
G2 Everything possible went wrong for Jjakji with their respective openers and he still made it a competitive game
It's not like Ganzi's a slouch in TvT either.
G1 vs Boxer was supposed to be a b/o loss, scouted reaper/hellion/medivac vs 1 base banshee -> siege tank should never manage to get much done, but he almost macgyver'd a win out of nothing there.
G2 he all in'd and won easy, helped out by good usage of his banshees.
G3 he yet again got an unfavourable opener, even without the supply block (I kinda think he took a gamble there and wanted the CC to clear it with a production cut for supply), but defended really nicely, his decision making was great, and then he played the rest of the game out pretty much perfectly.
====
I just noticed one of his GM accounts has an 83% win ratio at 30 wins and 6 losses xD
Hope he can squeeze in a bit of streaming now he won today.
GanZi is one of the best TvT out there, not surprising that he lost and that doesn't indicate a bad TvT. I'm glad that he is through, too bad I missed the games. It will be hard if he is against really good terrans again but he has good preparation and thus can avoid the insane randomness of TvT. I hope that he will be able to destroy some protoss again, and I'm not so worried for his TvZ. But he won't win this GSL as long as fOrGG is in, I wonder who will be able to stop fOrGG if any.

He beat Mvp in the super tournament, not MKP (that was MMA who beat MKP). But Mvp got "surprised" by the new mech metagame, I think that Mvp won their other matches afterwards, but it was still a good performance. Jjakji can probably beat GanZi if he prepares well, but he won't prepare THAT much for a groupstage since there are other players to beat. And his TvZ was already good but I agree, his preparation is monstruous, that's what made me think he will win the GSL : it's REALLY hard to 3-0 and 3-2 Puzzle & Oz especially since TvP is not the easiest match-up for the terrans, and the way he did it (awesome builds etc) indicates that he is smart/good at preparation. However someone said in a prediction blog that Jjakji will have to "fall" in order to be a true champion, ie : know what being at the top, falling down and clawing your way back to the top means! I think that it's true and I hope that Jjakji will be able to claw his way back whenever he falls (hopefully not anytime soon but it will happen).
Damn I'm so impatient to buy my GSL ticket, no more missed games :D
So Jjakji is in group C for gsl code s ro16, its MC(P), Ganzi(T), Jjakji(T) and Parting(P). What do you guys think? Looks pretty good from what i can tell, although ganzi might be a problem if they run in to eachother again.
Btw if you guys havnt heard about it, jjakji is playing in the ipl Koth style showmatch series, his match against nerchio is being broadcasted tomorrow tomorrow for 500$ and a chance to continue on next week. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=306507
Sad that he lost today, however its hard to be dissapointed cause both he and parting played exellent games, im quite sure he's not gonna have any trouble to win his ro24 match in code a. He played in the korean qualifier for MLG winter championship, and its being broadcasted this week, so lets hope that went well! I think he could use some time off GSL to just practice normally and not have to be practicing so specifically, if he keeps up his current skill level i foresee a good year for jjakji!
Now the whole NsHs team is probably dedicated fully to the teamleague for the time being, and hopefully they can pull off better results than last week.

Nice, he won today! :D I didn't watch because I don't think Virus is strong enough, I'm glad that even though his TvT is not up to par compared to his other match-ups, he is able to win convincingly against low/mid tier terrans.
Was definitely expecting jjakji to win today, but that looked almost too easy concidering a heavy build order loss and pushing out at the worst possible time in game 2.

While his TvT is undoubtedly weaker than his other matchups by a fair margin, i believe people blow it out of proportion a bit, his TvT isnt exactly weak. Nice to see him use mech for once though, i think that might prove to work better for him, atleast when playing TvT.
Nshs advances to losers final in the IPL TAC 2, jjakji defeating both oz and leenock with sage closing the series out, tomorrow they will play against ogs for a spot in the grand finals!
So he ended up winning his first match convincingly 3-0 over kas, next match against polt is about 2 weeks away though. Tomorrow NSHoseo is playing against IM in the gstl, its in the losers side of the bracket so they have to win to keep the hope of las vegas alive.
Fingers crossed that his good Team Arena form carries over to tomorrows match with IM. He can definitely beat anyone on their roster. Fingers crossed someone else on NSHS pulls a bit of weight too though.
Awesome play from seal today, and jjakji for closing it out. Im still kinda worried for their match against startale next weekend. Teams with solid terran player have been a weak point for them for a long time.

Tough draw, certainly doable though =)
If i read the announcement right, he is playing against taeja in first round right? if so that is a terrible draw for him, taeja has become a demon of sorts for jjakji.
GSTL group b lower bracket finals live in about 1 hour and 30 minutes from now, NSHoseo vs startale.Getting really nervous, i really want them to make it to vegas! they only need to win 2 more matches to make it :>
I think if jjakji plays the kind of mech style that i have seen on a few occasions lately in TvT, then they can easily take out bomber, combined with seal's awesome ZvT ofc.
So apparently jjakji's match against polt in the IPL ToC is being broadcasted tonight, their schedule never really seem to be out that far beforehand, eighter way gogo jjakji, would be awesome if he made it to ipl4. If he does win he will play against thorzain, which i think is quite heavily in jjakji's favor, and winning that match would put him in winners final, but Polt is the real bump in the road for now though.
Edit: Jjakji beats polt 3-1 and moves on to winners semi against thorzain! Relentless aggression by jjakji with 3 of the games being 1 base plays, polt just didnt seem to get the hang of it.
On March 28 2012 09:20 bittman wrote: Jjakji beating Polt gives me more hope for his GSL group and vs Taeja. I still worry about his TvT though =S
Taeja and Polt pretty much play exactly the same TvT. But none of the Polt/Jjakji games really went to the mid-game since Jjakji did rushes/all-ins that Polt kept expanding fast against. I think Jjakji can beat Taeja, but it'll be tough if it gets into the later stages. Jjakji does have some sweet TvT timings, though.
Ironsquid group c kicks off today, first match for Jjakji is vs MMA, games are broadcasted every wednesday/sunday starting today. The other players in his group are: Life, Mana, Stephano and MMA, definitely gonna be a tough group, but i think he can make it.
Oh wow, cant believe i missed the fact that jjakji plays his code s group tomorrow, his first match is against Taeja, thestc and drg is also in his group though.
On March 29 2012 06:35 Asha` wrote: Man, watching that ironsquid series from Jjakji made me feel like I did watching MVP's last ironsquid series.
painful to see one of your favourites playing that far below his normal level TT
hopefully not a sign of things to come in his GSL group tomorrow.
I have Jjakji going 2-0, he better not disappoint me! ^_^
I'm backing him against Taeja because it's code s and not the weekly :p. I was not all that impressed by DRG's zvt at mlg so I think jjakji stands a really good chance if he faces him. Going to be a great group regardless.
At least he didn't get last place, I still think we'll see him back in Code S again next season. He'll make it. The real unfortunate thing is his opponents in Code A, he either plays JYP or Seal. That's so unfortunate, because I'd love both Seal and Jjakji to tear through their brackets and achieve Code S directly. If JYP gets through, Jjakji should beat him although JYP improved quite a bit in PvT. I'd rather have Jjakji and Seal in Code S, so let's just hope Seal wins which would pretty much guarantee sick, sick games between the two - I love Jjakji's TvZ as well as Seal's ZvT. After that, Jjakji (or Seal) would be up against the winner of sC/Symbol/Seed, which won't be easy but is doable, or he'll have to go through the painful experience that is the Up & Down stage.
TT Wish he would have gotten to play against DRG, his TvT is still looking shaky. He is still alive in the mlg arena qualifier qualifier though, along with 3 other NSHoseo players. Also tonight he will be playing in the IPL ToC WR3 against thorzain, if he wins he will be in winner bracket finals and has a good shot a making it to IPL 4, which would really be good for him now that he is out of GSL, i feel like he could do really well in that kind of an event, as he has proven to be good in online events (iccup/esv weeklies and finals). The same mentality pretty much applies to open bracket of and ipl/mlg style event where you cant really play against the player, but rather just play the matchup.
Jjakji moves on to winners final in the IPL ToC and is guaranteed atleast 2000$, the champion will get 5k $ and a paid trip to ipl 4 next weekend, so jjakji is just 2 wins away from vegas! Creator is waiting for him in the winners finals.
as for the games themselves, they werent really spectacular, jjakji won 2 easy games with some clean agression builds, it was pretty much just jjakji having tighter builds than thorzain. He lost game 3 with a pretty sloppy opening, but closed it out in game 4 during the mid-game.
Jjakji vs life and jjakji vs mana are being broadcasted tonight in the ironsquid tournament, he really need to win all his matches now concidering that he lost against MMA in the opening match. Also winners finals in IPL ToC later tonight, against creatorprime.
but it's vs Protoss on Crossfire so...we shall see >_<
----
Jjakji wins. Nice 2 base marine/tank contain to get a good advantage, takes a third behind it. Manages to hold a 2 base colossus/archon all in attempt. ----
Now playing Sniper's zerg on Daybreak.
----
Jjakji completely crushes him in a nice macro game, never once looked in trouble. (now 5-4 nshs)
---
vs Keen now on Bel'shir (MVP trying to prey on some TvT weakness?), if he wins this NSHS win.
---
Jjakji does his almost trademark marine/hellion pressure and follows up with a 1 base marine/tank push. Handles Keens cloaked banshees easily and then crushes him when he attacks.
Jjakji takes it 3-1 over creator in Ipl ToC, He is now on the winners side of the grand finals and will meet eighter hero or creator(keep in mind that whoever moves on to face jjakji has to win twice due to double elim). 1 bo5 away from vegas!!
Our boy has done it! Jjakji wins the Tournament of Champions by defeating CreatorPrime and recieves 5000$ aswell as a paid trip to Las Vegas to compete in the IPL4 open bracket this weekend.
I also wrote a small recap as the games were happening if you missed it!
Game 1: Jjakji spawns in the 7 a clock position vs Creator in the 1 a clock position on Cloud Kingdom. Creator opens up with a safe and rather late first expansion, Jjakji goes for a double command center build pretty early on. Jjakji manages to get a few good drops during the mid-game aswell as getting a cancel on Creator's third base. The lategame composition is bio/ghost/vikings for JJ and Colossi/Archon/gateway units for Creator. Jjakji manages to win a few crucial engagements due to having a slight upgrade advantage and landing good EMP's. Jjakji somehow manages to depower 3 gateways with a few scv's that he sent into Creator's main to get rid of supply for units, Jjakji's supply advantage is too high and with yet another base going down, Creator is forced to GG
1-0 NSHoseo Jjakji.
Game 2: Creator spawns in the 9 a clock position vs Jjakji in the 3 a clock position on Metropolis. Jjakji opens up 3 rax and Creator goes for a 1-gate expand but Creator is not responding to the unusually high marine count. Jjakji pulls a few scv's and builds a bunker at Creator's natural and with a bad forcefield Creator traps himself into his own main. However Creator holds off the push and Jjakji is in an economic disadvantage as Creator goes for a quick third. Creator then goes for double forge while Jjakji is only upgrading with a single engineering bay, leaving Jjakji one upgrade behind for the time being. A small force of Jjakji is caught in the middle of the map, and at the exact moment Jjakji drops 3 medivacs into Creator's main with about an even trade on both ends. Jjakji forces a cancel on Creator's fourth with a drop, this triggers Creator to attack and Jjakji gets in a good position with his vikings and takes out all the colossi and archons before Creator retreats, how ever due to the early economic disadvantage for Jjakji he is still slightly behind on supply. Jjakji forces an engagement on Creator's side of the map with their main armies, cloaked ghosts and viking get in perfect positions and the colossi does almost instantly along with emp on the whole army, jjakji crushes through the zealots and Creator GG's!
2-0 NSHoseo Jjakji.
Game 3: Jjakji spawn in the top and Creator spawns in the bottom on Daybreak. Creator goes for a 4-gate opening on 1 base while Jjakji goes for a double CC again! Jjakji somehow gets a read on creator without even scouting the gateways and starts building bunkers on the highground. Creator retreats and takes his natural, but obviously behind due to the agressive opening that was completely shut down. Creator goes for a third and gets double forges at the same time, Jjakji scouts it and decides to drop the main and go for an attack on the third at the same time. The drop acts mainly as a distraction and Jjakji crushes Creator's third base and is up by 30 supply. Jjakji goes for a head on attack at Creator's natural, it ends up in an advantage for Creator and he closes the supply gap by slightly. Despite the early double forges, Jjakji is still slightly ahead on upgrades. Jjakji goes for another engagement at the third of Creator, but Jjakji's army is just too big and Creator is forced to GG!
Stephano forfeits his match against mma in ironsquid group c, the details are quite shallow but according to the website it seems that they disqualified him completely. I guess im being too meta here, but maybe it's because he lost his match against Jjakji and didnt want to play his final match? Eighter way, one less threat for jjakji, the last games are broadcasted tomorrow btw.
Edit: there doesn't seem to be any explanation about what happends incase of a tie, since jjakji beat life, it could mean that jjakji is guaranteed to move on now, but might be mapscore.

IPL4 open bracket[1] is out. I would call it a pretty good bracket for jjakji up untill Round of 5 in winners where he could meet Maru or taeja(if he wins this round he will advance tho)

I have to say it looks pretty good, a few terran players that could mess him up is ryung taeja and maru, but his TvT has been looking more consistant lately, aside from vs Taeja. There is a losers bracket though, so if he runs into Taeja there is still hope if he looses.
EDIT: does anyone know if being in bracket 4 puts you into group D etc, or is that a randomized process?
Also Group C in the ironsquid tournament is wrapping up today in about 2 hours, jjakji vs stephano is up first, if he wins that he is guranteed to move on.
Complete domination by Jjakji as he wins 2-0 vs stephano and moves on to the round of 8, the ro4 and finals are played offline in france, so theres a good chance we will get to see Jjakji there.
Absolute destructon of Stephano. Looking forward to his r8 games, would quite like to see a rematch with MKP though a series with MC is definitely tasty, as is the potential prospect of a match vs nestea/leenock/alive.
Best of luck to Jjakji this weekend! Am I right in saying this is his first international (outside Korea) tournament in his career? I hope he makes a deep run at least then. Poor guy seems to keep falling short despite probably being so fearsome.

Yes, it is his first event outside of GSL/Online events.

Give him a zerg, I want him to go to the live event. TvT is still kinda scary if he faces a good opponent (which he obviously would).
Flight problems are really unfortunate, oh well, I hope it doesn't throw him off too much. And since a lot of the other Koreans face the same problems, he shouldn't have too big of a disadvantage.
On April 07 2012 10:53 Asha` wrote: Keep going JJakji!
I think I'll sleep now, if he loses to Huk I'ld be too sad to sleep well lol#
(also if I stay up and Bomber loses I'll be sad ><)
Weak :<, ill hold it down until the end though!
EDIT: Taeja and Maru is in the other side of the bracket, so the winner of that will face the winner of Huk and Jjakji, imo it's pretty crucial that Jjakji wins over huk. Otherwise if say, he runs into Taeja in the losers bracket, then he only has one shot, Taeja has been Jjakji's demon lately.
EDIT: Jjakji crushes huk 2-0 and moves on to WR5, essentially winners finals of his pool, next match is against Maru or Taeja.
Despite the flight delays in tokyo, it seems that jjakji is in good shape today, lets hope he can pull off the last match and carry on in groups tomorrow.
EDIT2: Taeja beats maru 2-0 so it's Jjakji vs Taeja in the finals of his pool.
Jjakji chan defeats Taeja 2 fucking 0, he enters group D tomorrow with a clean sweep (10-0 maps) in the open bracket. It's gonna be rough, but i think he can do it!
Currently group D is: MMA , Bomber and Idra. Lets hope the last player is a zerg or protoss, i think he can take out bomber in TvT, he definitely can beat idra, MMA is still really rough in TvT.
Really didnd expect him to go through so smoothly today, concidering his flight was delayed twice and it being his first time at this kind of a tournament and in a different country.
Jjakji once against shows he is amazing and certainly not a flash in the pan. Nice to see some revenge on taeja as well, even though I'm disappointed to see taeja eliminated now :/
Only one Jjakji game actually getting streamed today, and it's the one vs Idra. Oh well, fingers crossed he's not the only KR Terran to somehow lose vs Greg heh.
Going to be lame if he doesn't make it out of the groups, a whole one game on the main stage =(
Sad that he got into the worst group possible for him, MMA didnt look very good in his TvT against Bomber though, but im not sure how good byun is in TvT right now.
And Idra is out 0-2 against ghostking which means that there's MMA, Ghostking(byun), Bomber and jjakji still left with a shot at moving on.
Jjakji vs idra will be shown on main stage in an hour.
EDIT: Rocky start for jjakji against idra, loses the first game due to being to greedy with his tech and idra pushes out with roaches and punishes it. Jjakji comes back in the 2nd map and wins it pretty easily though, displaying some very good marine splitting.
third game on cloud kingdom, good map for idra.
OK idra plays terribly and gets crushed by Jjakji, eventually leaves without a GG. I though Jjakji looked shaky to begin with, but at the end of things it looks more like a build order loss more than anything.
On April 08 2012 04:54 Asha` wrote: That was closer than it needed to be xD
Important to get the win off Idra, got to try and overcome the TvT hurdles now.
Was only scared because of game 1 where he did double port banshee. When he played standard in game 2/3 he dominated idra pretty hard hitting just before hive tech in game 3 hit. Oh well still pretty anoyed of not getting to watch some of the more interesting games
TT i really think jjakji had a good shot at placing top 4 if it wasnt for this damn group... So do you guys think any big foreign team are looking to pick him up? and if so do you see him leaving NSH? Even if he didnt win this tournament he still played well up till his last 2 sets, also concidering his previous achievements i can only imagine teams are after him. On one hand im a big NSH fanboy, but it's getting harder and harder to deny the fact that he is just too good for his team and i would kill for more opportunities to see jjakji play. So im pretty torn on what to believe personally.
On April 08 2012 14:57 HaXeR wrote: I dont think he will leave NSHS. Its like MMA leaving SlayerS or Nestea leaving IM.
Well it's kinda different as MMA and Nestea actually get sent out to major tournaments due to Slayers and IM having more big sponsors, but as you said i doubt he will leave in the near future, just speculating.
EDIT: ouch, Jjakji would have faced MKP first round in the championship bracket if he would have moved on. and would have had to play loser of polt vs alive in the loser's side, i guess this tournament just wasnt meant to be his....
Oh well, looking at the results i feel less bad that Jjakji got 9th, not even MKP could handle it.
Matchups for ironsquid ro8 are out, Jjakji will play against Nestea, one more win for the offline finals in Paris. i'd say concidering the lineup of the ro8 (5 terrans), its a pretty good matchup for him.
The match will be played on sunday at 8pm CET.
EDIT: Oh, and the matches will be played LIVE unlike the group stages, seems like it's bo5 too.
Really wasnt a fan of that series vs nestea that was broadcasted today, i wish he would just play straight up, he always does so well when he drops all the gimmicks and just plays.
Other than that i just hope he does well in GSL and gets back, unfortunately it's possible that he will play his teammate seal in his first match though, but Jjakji starts in the 2nd round so whoever loses gets to try again in up&downs, so it's possible that they both go through. :<.
Havnt really been anything going on lately but tomorrow NSHoSeo is playing vs fnatic in the KSL team league, so might get to see some jjakji play if he's neeeded, hopefully he's had some time to recover and practice considering how many tournaments he was playing in leading up to IPL 4. He will play in code a ro32 vs EGJYP aswell, but i think that's next week. That match shouldnt really be a problem for him, consiering JYP's pretty terrible record against korean terrans in the past, but you never know!
NSHoSeo vs Prime on saturday in the KSL, rematch of the IPL TAC 2 grand finals, hoping for some good games and hopefully jjakji making an appearance. Also his Code A ro32 match against JYP has been scheduled for next tuesday on the 8th at 19.00 KST, gogo jjakji!
JJ moves on to face Symbol in code a ro24, overall a decent series against JYP, but that game 2 was really sloppy, it's almost like he's overpreparing his matches. After the first map he should realize that he can just beat JYP straight up no problem, but still decides to go for a coin-flip build. Not a huge fan, but game 3 was sick.
Oh and also winners interview, basically he mentions being under a lot of pressure during the past two seasons and now he finally feels like he can do well again without any pressure, also mentions NSHoSeo taking the GSTL very seriously.
Just sad that blizzard fucked up so hard with this patch, but i am pretty sure that jjakji will never give it up, fight and come back in code S by winning the up and downs.

Jjakji comeback for next GSL season looking more and more likely with how he's been playing lately. With having beaten the toughest team in their group they are looking likely to make it to the playoffs in GSTL too if they keep it up!
The mlg qualifiers went completely under my radar, but apparently jjakji beat some really good players, even though he didnt make it through. 2-1 supernova, 2-0 squirtle, 2-1 fucking MVP, unfortnuately losing to taeja and shine 2-0 in the end :<. But his recent results are definitely a good sign, he beat some good players including mma in the IPL qualifier, defeating both mvp and mma is seriously impressive for a matchup he has been struggling with for a while.
IM.Impressed(tehe) by his performance today, showing that he is still a great player, he just needs to play like that where it actually matters for him personally i.e code a/s.
Guys plz support jjakji he deserves it!!! The only event he has now it is IPL team event and nothing else!! It is so bad and I really hope he will find motivation and keep fighting!!! Iron Squid plz invite him he deserves it... He did not play any games in October on his 2 main accounts T_T.

I did some research, recently tournaments Jjakji attended are Code A qualifiers - He failed to qualify losing in quarterfinals against Terran player Mercury He also tried to qualify IPL 6 but did not have much success there either losing against Supernova 2-0 in korean qualifier and against Vampire in international qualifiers.
And what comes to other NSH players, some of them most likely retired while some players have found new teams. eg San plays now for Azubu, Sting for Western Wolves (and he won quite recently some IEM can't remember which one :D) and Sage just recently moved to ROOT. No idea about Tassadar or Sculp though they might have retired:/
E: Actually Tassadar tried code a prelims too but could not make it
Jjakji is playing in the MLG Winter Season Showdown, trying to qualify for the winter championship. He has a tough opponent in DongRaeGu, so hope he can pull the upset! Broadcast date is not yet announced.
JJAKJI DEFEATS DRG 3-2!!! JJAKJI IS GOING TO MLG!!
Jjakji going to MLG? That's a huge opportunity for him and his team. NSHoseo players really lack foreign tournament opportunities. Great to hear this news
I never doubted that he was a good terran despite everyone saying how he was the worse GSL champion and shit like that (FruitDealer and NesTea are, ability wise), but his team's problems were such a hindrance that he had troubles staying competitive. I hope that the HotS switch and the renewal of NSHoSeO will allow him to reach the top again!

His performance against MVP is a good start!
i belive the same and i actually belive that he will dominate, or maybe not dominate but atleast do very well the first half of hots atleast.
Way to go Jjakji! I predicted him making it to the semis in my bracket(against Flash) but after seeing how badly he demolished MarineKing, I have hopes he might make it to the Finals!! WOO!!
I watched him play against Rain. I really hope I can find him today for an autograph - I didn't want to ask after his loss and he was gone the rest of the night.
I recently became the op of the jjakji fanclub, will update it in the coming days! For now, check out this update by mYinsanity and a replay pack with 5 SICK replays from our favourite player!
Jjakji defeated both Zenio 2-0 and then Socke 2-0 in HSC VIII and moves on to Ro16, which is played on Saturday. Jjakji was really dominating in his games, he looks to be in form!
Jjakji is in the round of 8 of HSC VIII! After a close match against Happy he defeated the protoss players MC and ToD 2-0 each. Some sick comebacks!
We will have a GSL finals rematch against Leenock tomorrow, and I feel jjakji will prevail once again. When he wins, he will play winner vs Happy and HyuN. On the other side of the bracket are BabyKnight, Symbol, HerO and TaeJa.
Good job from Jjakji! And what a great game to finish his run in HSC, that was amazing. I was expecting more from him but 3rd place is still good for his first foreigner tournament in a lonnnng time.
Congratulations on 3rd place jjakji! (This thread keeps falling of my subscribed threads list >.< gotta post here more!)
jjakji showed some impressive play this tournament. If he keeps up this level and keeps practicing he'll be a championship contender for any tournament in no time!
Has mYi or jjakji given any update on whether he is still moving to Europe to play WCS EU since the WCS changes? I mean he could still get in through the ladder wildcard pretty easily imo. IIRC, both jjakji and Pengwin has stated that jjakji will participate in WCS EU next year.

Isn't Jjakji allowed to qualify through the citizens/residents spots since he will be living in Europe?
Anyway, it shouldn't be a problem. I don't see any European player who isn't in Premier League yet that can stop him if he have to qualify through the ladder wildcard. And if he face some korean, he will have an huge lag advantage...

"Pengwin_sc:jjakji will be considered a resident im pretty sure"
Hi guys! Just went through the AMA answering most questions with Jjakji, so check that out. He doesn't have a TL account afaik, but he said he knows about the fanclub and loves you guys ;D
Yeah always kinda liked Jjakji but never was a huge fanboy tbh but with him connecting with the eu scene and playing some sick starcraft and all my other favourites nowhere to be see. Ive been watching him closely and he is reaaaaly growing on me!
Ro32 groups for WCS EU has been released! jjakji is in group b and will be facing Livezerg in his first match. The other players in the group are Nerchio and Showtime.
A very good group for jjakji imo, should make it out easy.
I can't keep from posting these updates...but anyway, jjakji is currently NUMBER ONE on Aligulac!!! All it took was him going FIFTEEN TO ZERO vZ and 28-5 overall since February 6th! Congratulations jjakji!
Indeed, nice job jjakji! Patience can be unpredictable and still really good, maybe like MC at São Paulo, so keep your head up and keep fighting jjakji!
Also, can someone translate the followup from DRG and jjakji? Google translate says some weird things, lol. DRG: 스위스물먹더니 훨훨날아다니네! 축하해 jjakji: 제가 경기하는중에 올림픽은 난리가났군요

DRG: You live in Switzerland a little and now you're soaring! Congrats jjakji: Looks like shit went down in the olympics while I was playing.

Not the biggest of bank but bank nonetheless, hopefully winning the 100k finals will make up for 350 bucks for great games shown. GG kid, stay strong and healthy and nothing but good things will come out of this year.
4th place, and once again he lost to Hyun, who is now labeled a "nemesis" of jjakji on Aligulac. Ah jjakji, I know you could've won it all...the time will come soon!
Today, Jjakji defeated Golden (3-2) and Impact (3-2) in 2 very good TvZ to take 1st place in GFINITY weekly cup #3. Game 3 vs Golden on Belshire Vestige is a much watch.

He won another one? Great! Will watch!
OH my goodness, WOW that game was intense....I have NO idea how jjakji was able to hold on for that long, in actuality...
Amazing games by jjakji today. If you missed it, you need to go back and watch those games. Amazing. If you only have time for one game, game 4 is a must watch, but it is a long one.
jjakji continues on his road to WCS EU victory after coming second in his ro16 group. 2-0 vs Grubby, 1-2 vs Snute and then 2-1 vs Dayshi. I'd recommend the entire Snute series as well as game 2 vs Dayshi.
He also did his interviews in english, which was even better than his play!

Twitch VoDs of both the match vs IvD and XMG can be found here!
facing VortiX in the Ro8 of WCS EU. It's a tough draw because VortiX is looking great lately but I hope jjakji can get through and fulfill my hope of a jjakji vs San finals!
Yeah I was surprised he took him out by that scoreline. I think MC should be no problem. jjakji favored against everyone on the other side of the bracket except maybe MMA cause I don't really know the state of their TvTs. San is good but PvT is his worst so jjakji would have a good shot at taking him out
Today jjakji is playing Harstem and then the winner of Kas vs Vortix in WCS EU! Haven't seen much from jjakji lately, hopefully he has been in training to crush this group!

Jjakji should make it, but it's a bit harder of a group than it looks like. Harstem has excellent PvT when he prepares so Jjakji definitely needs to watch out for that.

Sad to see jjakji go out like this, maybe he was nervous or something. Not his usual self.
Hope we get to see him at Dreamhack Stockholm and Blizzcon! He still has a very good shot at making it (over 70% according to someone in LR thread!).
Also with no WCS to prepare for, some more streaming would be nice. I miss the ladder king owning it up!
Jjakji just qualified for Gfinity Spring Masters I, beating Bly, Dunmer(?), Terminator and Marinelord. Looked a bit shaky with the KR-EU delay and all but he managed it in the end!

I've only been back to following StarCraft for a few weeks, and it's awesome to see that my favorite player ever is still going at it. Stayed up past 9AM (T.T) watching jjakji get past the Ro64; that was a grueling run but well-fought! Good luck in the group stage jjakji, you can do it :D
Edit: looks like the option to have NSH flair is gone T_T RIP
jjakji lost in the group stage at IEM and also in the Ro16 of the Ting Open unfortunately, but there's still WardiTV Weekly and SSL Challenge to look forward to! gogo
jjakji went 0-6 in his WardiTV Weekly group He didn't look awful, but almost every time something like an engagement or harassment happened he seemed to come out behind in supply. Things just seemed to not work out. Have to hope he can bounce back with the creativity and aggression we're used to seeing from him.
jjakji plays in the SSL Challenge division tonight/tomorrow morning! He'll play against ByuN, which…um…well, ByuN pretty much never loses on the ladder. But it'll be interesting to see what jjakji can bring! Fighting
Unsurprisingly but still sadly, jjakji lost 0-2 to ByuN. There were a few parts of each game where if things had gone jjakji's way, he would been on more even footing with ByuN. In g1, ByuN's early cyclone/marines push narrowly managed to kill jjakji's natural and the cyclone barely survived, and jjakji's proxy banshee reached ByuN's base 10 seconds before cloak, rendering it as well as later banshees much less effectual. Game 2 ended after jjakji pushed out with his force at an unfortunate timing that allowed ByuN to swoop in and wreak havoc on his natural. But having control over those small, crucial moments in the game is part of what separates great players from good players, and helped ByuN show why he is an elite quarterback Terran. jjakji plays in VSL Group D in 5 days, going up against Stats, Trust, and Impact!
jjakji took a map off Stats, as he usually does, but couldn't close out the series. He beat Trust and lost to Impact to fall out of his VSL group. Not sure what the soonest next match for him is, but he does play Dear for SSL Challenge in two weeks.
jjakji tied for 3rd in BTSL S3 W2. He went 2-1 against Byun, which is probably exciting but wasn't broadcasted on the main BTTV stream so I don't know how it went down He lost to Patience 0-2, even though at one point in game 2 he was wreaking havoc almost everywhere on the map. Just didn't have the economy to follow up, it seems.
jjakji's SSL Challenge match against Dear is on the 15th! Should be a good one.
jjakji lost 1-2 to Dear in SSL Challenge. IMO he played very well, and it must be frustrating for him to lose that, but I guess it happens sometimes.
In G1, he started off with a proxy reaper that quickly got scouted and did well to transition into a more normal game after it was clear the reaper would not accomplish anything. jjakji had a strong push that killed Dear's 3rd base, but Dear countered by using adept shades to get a great position surrounding jjakji's army. The midgame was pretty tightly contested, while jjakji's liberators definitely helped out both with harassment and in shooting down overly brazen adepts. Neither player focused too intensely or too laxly on economy, so army size mattered, and jjakji took good enough engagements to pose a serious threat in Dear's base and force the gg.
G2 also started with a proxy reaper, and this one did more damage than in the first game, but for reasons I'm not sure of (maybe jjakji didn't commit enough to either growing a powerful economy or building a solid defense?) Dear built up a force and killed jjakji relatively quickly.
G3 was won with a proxy stargate from Dear that jjakji just missed out on scouting with his reaper. jjakji held about as well as one could without having been able to prepare for a proxy air attack, but that's just not enough. Scouting can be a tricky game in itself sometimes.
jjakji played in the round 1 of the VSTL as part of Team Zest, and started the series out strong by beating the captain of the opposing team, Impact. He then lost to Patience so his overall effect on the series was pretty much neutral. Team Zest lost the match 2-4, but can still slug it out to win the tournament if it doesn't drop any more series!
In 11 hours from now, jjakji will continue to play in the SSL Challenge Division against herO as part of an effort to qualify for the next season's Premier Division. jjakji lost his first two series against ByuN and Dear, so it's pretty important that he win as much as possible to make it into the second stage of Challenge!
Welp, that seems to have eliminated jjakji from SSL Challenge this season. Game 1 featured some early adept and Stargate aggression from herO that netted him enough of an advantage to kill jjakji with mass adept shortly after. Game 2 was really nicely done by jjakji, pushing out with a small group of marines at a timing that managed to catch herO off-guard in the midst of putting down a ton of gateways. herO could only send in a few adepts at a time to take on jjakji's marine force, which meant jjakji was able to trade quite efficiently and really weaken the gateway push that was to come, as well as give himself time to prepare for it. jjakji defended decently and also sent a drop into herO's main, taking down the Tasteless pylon powering some of the gates and threatening to destroy Artosis birthday pylon before herO tapped out. Game 3 was about as close as the first, or worse, as herO had an easy read on jjakji going CC first on Newkirk Precinct and simply chrono'd out a zealot while adding on stargate units to overwhelm jjakji's defenses.
jjakji played in VSTL Losers' Round 1, where ByuN started out for Team Zest winning 3 maps. Solar strongly threatened to pull off a reverse all-kill by beating ByuN and Zest, and jjakji was next in line. Their game was crazily sick, with jjakji behind pretty much the whole time but staying very active and aggressive, to the point of nearly nullifying Solar's large worker and base advantages. jjakji was whittled down to literally 0 workers, but took good enough trades to have an army that was somewhat close to Solar's in size and also limit Solar's income severely by sniping hatches and a few tech structures. jjakji's buildings were getting ravaged by zerglings while his army was in Solar territory, but he didn't opt to lift very many of them. His army eventually was unable to sustain its presence in Solar's base and he tapped out for a loss well fought. Luckily, Classic managed to close out the series against Solar in another impressively played game, so Team Zest lives on to fight another day, facing next Team Impact in the Losers' Final of VSTL.
jjakji's next match will be in the SSL Challenge division against Gumiho! He's already eliminated for the season, so it's unclear with what mindset he'll approach this match. Still, hope he plays well. Fighting!
VSTL Update: Team Zest ended up winning two more series to take the whole tournament! However, it was basically a carry job by ByuN and Zest, with ByuN winning 3 games in each series and Zest winning 1 game in each series. jjakji went 0-1 on that day, losing to Bunny. It was a similar situation to his game against Solar, where Team Zest was one win away from taking the series, but the last player from the other team refused to go gentle into that good night, and jjakji was once again a casualty. jjakji's overall record of 1-3 for the season is less than ideal, but it's nice that his team won.
jjakji won his SSL Challenge match against Gumiho 2-1! The first game was favorable for jjakji from the beginning, as he got off some fortunate scouts that allowed him to prepare for all the early harassment Gumiho sent his way. jjakji continued to stay on top of things and rode out his advantage to the victory. Game 2 also had a notable advantage gained early on, but by Gumiho this time as jjakji displayed some carelessness with his reapers, losing them too easily. I waited way too long to write this post and so I've forgotten how the rest of the game went, but Gumiho had a ~20 supply lead for most of it and secured the win. Game 3 was very back and forth, but again I don't remember the details because it's been too long, so might as well link the TL News article that described it.
