Hey, I'm new to posting on Teamliquid (I check it and read it a lot) so I'm not sure if this should be a separate thread (/how to make a thread) but I just thought I'd give my two cents.
It seems to me that in a lot of respects, the SC community is iconoclastic. We've got extremely charismatic casters like Day9 and Tastosis, we've got fitness-conscious gamers like Incontrol and even Idra and Huk now (among others), we've got a whole bunch of different people who don't fall under that fixed image of what a nerd or a gamer is supposed to look, or act like.
That's why I was a bit disappointed seeing NASL hire a model/actress, ex-Miss Teen USA contestant, as a presenter/interviewer. Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against her (I've never met her, and she seems perfectly nice) and regardless of whether it's genuine or not, it's cool that she acts interested in the game/community. What confused me was the logic behind hiring her instead of someone who knows about the game. I've seen the posts on here that talk about how it was astute of NASL (which had an awesome conclusion to its first season) to hire an attractive woman to play to the interests of gamers who watch their stream.
This assumption seemed a bit unfair to me, and I hope there's not much truth in it. I like to think that the SC community, as varied as it is, watches things like NASL too see the best of the best in action, and not hot girls. Obviously these two things aren't mutually exclusive, but when you hire someone to interview players/audience members about the game, it seems to me you'd want to have someone who has background knowledge about the game so they can ask insightful questions for us to actually learn things. It'd be one thing if she were just there to pose (which'd be pretty sexist, but whatever - that's another issue), but she's there under the pretense of being an interviewer/presenter and while she has plenty of charisma (see Miss Teen USA experience), she doesn't know much about the game and can't provide much insight.
Thanks for your time (I hope this didn't come off as too righteous).

sign me up! i really enjoyed lindsey's appearance at the NASL. As to her lack of knowledge, in her interview in the OP she says that she was expecting 4 days to learn the game before interviewing. You can blame her lack of knowledge on that. Plus how perfect was it to have a rough caster on an already extremely rough day of the NASL. It was some comic relief as well as a pretty face. Lindsey is upbeat, fun, and a great addition to the sc2 community.

User was warned for this post I don't think the purpose of the interviews was more directed toward people learning the players' thoughts about the games and gameplay themselves, it was more about the players personally. I agree though, that we should try to leave gameplay related discussion to people with more experience (Day9 etc).
On the other hand, the grand majority of people who are going to watch those interviews (and read this, for that matter) like boobs. Can't argue with boobs.
Not sure what the warn was for.
This looks shopped...

I think that had it been a regular 'wtf is this fan club doing by existing, they shouldn't hire models lolol' then a mod would have tempbanned him. But because it was a rather intelligent post, it was lessened to a warn. I'd also guess that the warn message was something like 'please be careful with where you post and make sure you read headings' rather than a 'clean up your act'.

This post is warned because it sets a bad example, as we don't want fanclubs to become a place of discussion of why someone doesn't deserve fans. Also, the post above me explains why it was only a warning and not a ban.
The manner in which the post was written was fine, it just doesn't belong in a fantopic. You can disagree with the policy in which case I would say take it to PM or website feedback, but disagreeing with a mod doing this makes no sense.

There, I said it. Maybe more people will come out now. Oh man, honestly, your post just says everything that is wrong with these fanclubs Not sure what you mean, I thought that's the reason all of the fan thread OP's are filled with pictures of the guy/girl the thread's devoted to. I personally am a fan of every attractive girl in the world who hasn't done anything to earn my disrespect. Those things include mass-murder, religious extremism and looking at me in a funny way. Translation: I'm desperate for sex and would fuck everything that's even remotely as hot as Lindsey. And there you really wonder why people disagree with that fanclub? In fact it's not even you being a fan of her but your dick. Maybe this should be renamed to the "I got a boner cause of Lindsey"-Club. Sounds + Show Spoiler +religulous (sry, Bill Maher) I'm atheist, but if I want pretty girls, nude girls or even porn then I know better sources than Teamliquid. If you don't, then I guess I'm very sorry for you. You're just desperately searching for an excuse because I made you look like the horny retard you are. I'm not calling you out on religious belief. Only about the negative attitude. If you people are such fucking great supporters of everyone who have done more for the community, go out and make fanclubs for others and show your support. Don't put others down for showing theirs. I support change in the community. And I support cute girls. If that's not your thing, try to bare with it, don't spread negative messages. There IS fanclubs for most people who deserve it so no need to create it. But who the fuck do you think invested more in this game, Incontrol or Lindsey? Guess what, Incontrol's thread is not even half of this and it's been here forever. That's just insulting to people who actually put effort into the game. If you want to "support" cute girls go see your local hooker and make her earn 50$ more. Hookers don't look like that and if they did add two zeros.

So guys I started typing this up, but eventually decided it wasn't worth my time so it's incomplete. If somebody wants to finish the list, talk about how MMA is like iloveoov, mention some of the open bracket players and add photos and or TLPD links or any of that go for it.
Hi Lindsay
I thought you might appreciate a little background info on some of the players at MLG Anaheim to add some depth to your interviews, so here you go.
Group A: Group A is being called the group of death as it has at least three players who could quite conceivably win the whole thing. It also features three Team Liquid players (players who play for the team Team Liquid, --the original Team Liquid came first and eventually the website teamliquid.net followed. You can read about that here: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/TeamLiquid.net-- as such, all three “liquidians” are fan favorites and people will be talking about how it’s a shame whenever two people from Team Liquid have to play eachother. Like the other groups, it also includes a Korean, and it also includes one of Europe’s best protoss players, Naniwa.
Dignitas Naniwa: Naniwa from Sweden is one of the best protoss in the world, he beat oGsMC (who was the silver medalist at the NASL of course) and beat Liquid HuK at a recent tournament the Homestory Cup 3. Those two victories sent MC and HuK down to the loser’s bracket (it was a double elimination tourney) where they fought and HuK beat MC and then went on to beat Naniwa in the finals. As such, Naniwa and HuK have a relatively friendly rivalry going on. Naniwa also was the champion of MLG Dallas, which was the last MLG that didn’t have Korean invites. MLG Dallas was plagued with even more technical problems than the NASL but MLG redeemed themselves with MLG Columbus, which was the last MLG event before this one.
Liquid’Haypro: Haypro is one of two swedes on Team Liquid, he so far has yet to win a major tournament but usually preforms quite admirably. This is going to be an extremely difficult group for him tho. He plays Zerg.
Liquid’HuK: Liquid HuK is a dual citizen Canadian and American, altho usually is recognized as Canadian. He is one of the favorites to win the whole tournament, coming fresh off of two big tournament wins earlier this month: Dreamhack Summer, and Homestory Cup 3. While he and Naniwa have a fairly friendly rivalry going, he and IdrA (pronounced id-ruh not eye-dra, although pronouncing it eye-dra is a very common mistake and plenty of people, myself included, still pronounce it that way) have a less friendly rivalry. They pretty much hate eachother (altho some of that may be showmanship). There’s plenty to be written about that and I’ll write a bit about it later. HuK currently trains in Korea in the same team house as oGsMC so some claim he’s not a “true” foriegner because of his Korean training... which is complete rubbish in my opinion, but the sentiment is out there. He once said he had one of the “top three control” in the world and people frequently bug him about that but he takes it in stride.
Liquid’TLO: Always one of the fan favorites, The Little One or “TLO” from Germany in the past has come up with some really fun and wacky builds, and uses risky strategies such as nukes. Currently he’s not in top form however as he is suffering from carpel tunnel. He’s got a really great personality tho so make sure you interview him. He plays Terran currently but has dabbled in all races in the past.
MVPDongRaeGu: DRG as many call him is the Korean invite of this group, he won a fantastic series a month ago against SCfou (one of Korea’s best terrans), and carried his team (MVP) to the finals in the GSL Team League last month where they lost to team Slayers (more about them later). He too is DEFINITELY one of the favorites to win the whole tournament. He plays Zerg.
Open Bracket Seed 1: Each group here gets one person from the open bracket added to their group. I’ll mention some of the notable open bracket players later.
Group B: EGIdra: Idra is one of the biggest personalities in the competitive starcraft scene. He’s a real love him or hate him guy. In the past he has shown incredably bad sportsmanship (manners) but has somewhat calmed down lately, likely due to his new girlfriend. He placed 4th at MLG Collumbus, the top foriegner, and played one of the most interesting games of the event, if you feel like watching some Starcraft, this one’s certainly worth checking out: (starts at 11:44) http://tv.majorleaguegaming.com/video/mlg-video/977857442001-idra-vs-mma-pool-play
Yeah, he also leaves games as soon as he feels like he is losing, causing events like that. He’s very opinionated, and often provides some interesting interviews.
EGIncontrol: The second player in group B from team Evil Geniuses, Incontrol was of course one of the casters at NASL. He plays protoss and lately has generally been considered an underdog even though he placed 4th at MLG Dallas, however now that he’s done casting NASL he may have trained up some so he could preform fairly well at Anahiem.
Sjow: Sjow (pronounced the same as show) has displayed some great results in the past, taking some games off of Koreans at MLG Columbus. He plays terran for team Dignitas, the same team as Select and Naniwa.
FXOSheth: Sheth is praised for being one of, if not THE most well mannered professional starcraft 2 player, the polar opposite of IdrA though they both play the same race. (Sorry, I’ll stop the IdrA bashing), Sheth who you saw at NASL had just returned from Korea where his team FXO is the first and so far only foreign (non-korean) team in the GSTL, though Naniwa and Fenix will play for one of the Korean teams in August (exciting!). Sheth is one of the best players in north America, and did take a game off of a Korean in the GSTL while he was in Korea, he’s got a difficult group but could do quite well in it.
Edit: At the time of writing he was still on FXO, currently that is no longer accurate.
Slayers_BoxeR: This man is the reason you are here. Not in a philosophical sense, but BoxeR practically invented the competitive Starcraft scene. He is the Michael Jordan of Starcraft, and though in Starcraft 2 he hasn’t been showing as great results, he is still a strong player. However, it’s gonna be a close series between The Emprer and Idra. There are countless articles written about BoxeR but a good place to start is our very own team liquid: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=82648
That’s (one of many) incredably well written articles by the team liquid staff and if you want to try to understand why we follow e-sports that article conveys it both accurately and eloquently. A must read I’d say.
Pool C
Slush: Slush got quite far at MLG collumbus, taking fifth in the end and beating The Korean Moon 2-0 in group play. He often shows a fairly unorthodox style especially in ZvZ, and could certainly come out 2nd in his group if he plays well.
Liquid’Ret: The last of the Liquidians in the seeded groups (although Liquid’Tyler will be participating in the open bracket), Ret was undeated going into the NASL Finals, but got seeded against the eventual champ Puma. As such, it’s hard to say exactly where his skill is at right now, but I’d certainly keep an eye on him, he too could easily place 2nd in his group, if he can get past the beastly ZvZ of Slush.
---
Now, the reason I started doing that whole write up is so that I could help out Lindsay, but also to make a point (which a few great people have already done). And that is this:
There's a reason we should help people like Lindsay get into starcraft. Because Starcraft will always have it's hardcore fans, and there'll always be a special place in our hearts for the Starcraft community leaders. But people like Lindsay are fricken amazing for the growth of e-sports. By that, I don't just mean gorgeous women (tho she's certainly that). I mean absolute newbies to the entire concept of professional gaming, who can look at it for a first time and think "hey, this is actually kind of cool". Because those people are going to tell their friends and expand the community. And if it also happens to kick start Lindsay's career? FANTASTIC! Lindsay gets more famous, and consequently starcraft gets more famous and it's a cycle of awesomeness.
Anyways, that's my half written post, do what you want with it guys.

It also helps that he doesn't actually know what iconoclasm is, so it's nice to see abuse of the English language get punished
On topic, I think she's genuinely trying to ingratiate herself to the SC2 community and educate herself about the game we love so much. I think she deserves a lot of credit for that, considering how volatile and frightening such huge attention can be (just look at Slayers Eve, which is an almost similar case).
