To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
  • Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
  • When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
  • No reposting of old material unless justified
  • Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
  • No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
  • Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
  • No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
  • No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
  • Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)

Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.

Translating is far from the hardest part of subbing.. Timing, editing and all that other jazz is the time consuming part. You really shouldn't make assumptions about it unless you have tried it yourself.

Not making assumptions about shit. It takes them less than 2 days to sub 1 hour of WGM content so it's obviously possible. I believe running man is subbed quite fast too.

So there I was in my car enjoying the other new song on the Humonoid repackage album, Here I Stand, for the first time and it seemed like a decent enough song... until the dubstep break came in. I actually started laughing, it might be the longest dubstep section in a kpop song yet. I think I'm just going to edit the track and take out that part, or hopefully someone has already done that for me. I can only hope that this is supposed to be for the greatest dance break in the history of music... but seeing as it will probably never be performed I doubt it. (Actually scratch that I just checked and they did perform it at their solo concert on the 18th, no clue if the dubstep was included though cause I only see 1 fancam for the song)

Here is the song, dubstep (or w/e dumb thing you want to call it, idgaf if its not exactly "dubstep" but I imagine it is) comes in at 1:27

Other shows aren't nearly as popular, meaning they don't pay nearly as well, meaning they won't sit for hours and hours on end doing it.

You can't set a standard on one group and compare it to others when it comes to subbing. It's damn difficult to sub, I've done it before. People have already made a lot of good points in regards to the subbing process and how little they get back from it. Unless you have something really stable as well as popular, you won't be getting much.

If you're actually bilingual, as in actually fluent enough to debate topics in two different languages competently, you know that every language has its nuances that are extremely hard to translate.
For example, in English "wow you're so calloused" and "wow you're so tough" mean different things (obv in reference to personalities). In some ways, they're the exact same, and in others, they're completely different. Tiny things like this, and idioms, and references/puns make translating things like a variety show insanely difficult.

See that's my problem. You say that those nuances are difficult but they aren't. If someone claims to know both languages fluently they should be able to articulate those nuances into either language fast. You don't need a direct translation at all, you need to understand the concept and convey it in the other language.

The problem is people just say they are fluent in both korean and english while sucking ass in one or the other, because understanding a language isn't just being a dictionary, it's understanding the culture and sayings. But I don't really care, obviously anyone with real fluency is making real money for their skills, not what kshow pays.

edit - im bitter today fuck

I'm saying it's easy for native speakers, but most of these subs are done by people who aren't.
even when I'm watching a professionally subbed version of a film from my native country, there are so many tiny mistranslations and errors.
also timing is a huge bitch to do.

well seungah and jb really went on my a+++ sheets today. even though they were coupled they didnt try to variety-fy it.

watching hyunshik and jihyun on the bus and jb and jei on the rocks was so engrossing.

ah now I'm not sure if I like the seungah/jb pairing or the jei/jb pairing.

hyungsik and jihyun was just spaghetti spilling, it was kind of painful to watch. second-hand embarassment so hard.
I also kind of like the aoa girl with junk.

No, you have just no idea what speaking multiple languages means.
Show me an English sentence - I KNOW what it means. There are 0 translations going on in my head. I just KNOW the meaning of that sentence.
And then see me conversing in German. When I suddenly remember an English word of what I want to say, but the German one (my native tongue) escapes me. Even while the whole conversation is in German.

Being fluent just means that you can hold a conversation in a language.
Now look at translations. I know what a sentence MEANS. But being able to convey said concept in another language is something completely different. You need to consider I just saw the words in language X. So words from language X are more prone to appear in my mind compared to words from language Y, when thinking about concept A.

That said - transcribing (no translation, 100% accuracy) a video takes me about x4 the duration of the video. 15min video = 60min of transcribing. Then add translations (time required really depending on quality) and timing, typesetting, QA etc and suddenly offering (free) subs takes a lot of time.

Remember that you're offering a service to some idiots who cannot be bothered to learn a language in 2-3 years. Total motivation

newsflash: companies have found out that playing catchy music with cute girls to an audience of late teens and early twenties males is a good way of generating revenue.

The song is too short, I want to hear more of her voice. It's a good song, the MV reminds me of the retro look home video look from the beginning of the Bloom MV.

There was a music video during the intermission of IPL 5 on the main stream not too long ago where it showed a group doing tap dancing lessons? I think it was SNSD but I am not sure as I can't find the video anywhere on youtube. Any help would be appreciated!
