I dont understand how someone would still sign to a contract like they're saying is 'unfair'. It's the job of the lawyer to explain what all the fine print means - and they should explain to you whether or not you're getting yourself in a shitty situation; aka 13 year contracts and the like.
What if they tell you you're not getting signed unless you sign a unfair contract?
Basically. You sit in training for 7 years and the only shot you get is some absurd contract. You're pretty desperate by that point and lets face it: it's pretty hard to debut when you aren't damn near 21 or younger. Take the shitty contact or go find other work.
yeah it still stumps me but if i had to take a guess either they arent told of their entire contract, which would be really messed up, or they just get caught up in the "oh im gonna be famous" moment. :/

Well, think about it.
You start training when you're in like middle school, so you've been training for basically as long as you can remember by the time the offer rolls about. It's effectively your life's dream that you've been devoting all your free time and you're still pretty young. I guess the parents could intervene if the kids aren't 19+ KR age, but that's a hard thing for a parent to do. It's pretty much a lock that you'll be so caught up in the realization of your dream that you aren't going to objectively look at the fine print of the contract (if you look at all).

Apparently the REAL reason jaebeom got kicked out of 2pm is not because of the "gay" comment he wrote on his myspace, but because he exposed JYP's 10 year slave contract. This is very detrimental to JYPE's image b/c they pride themselves of giving their artists better treatment compared to SM, but jaebeom revealed the truth. Notice in his myspace he talks about it, but conveniently it was whited out in the original screenshot...hottests have filled in the blanks
I guess 10 years is better than a lifetime contact, or is it [sm's contact] just something absurd like 50 years that's not technically a lifetime contact

I doubt it. in b4 tl;dr, but if you read the transcript, what he got kicked out for was something he did repeatedly, and it was phrased in a way that implied they were social transgressions.
My personal theory is that he sat down with a lawyer to figure out how to get out of the contract and they came up with telling the management that he's gay. They can't prove any of it, and given conservative Korean society, the management would almost certainly exercise their option to release him. I'm invoking any homophobia here, but if I were in the management's position given that sort of environment, just thinking about the potential bad publicity from something like that would have made me sweat already.

Sounds plausible.
Interesting...it's always the ones who try to overcompensate lol
SM contract is 13 years, which is like a lifetime contract cuz how many idols do you know who are over 30 these days? I can only think of Hyori
