Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
No reposting of old material unless justified
Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.
TVXQ! I just think all of their songs are so well written and performed. But can anyone help me understand their history a bit? it is really confusing. From what i understand, 3 members left because their contract was too long?
Cause SM sucks, yeah. Something about money, also their contract was 12 years or something like that, which is ridiculous.
Now SM are being dicks and preventing them from appearing on broadcast TV using their pull.
All the information I've seen about this suggests that greed on JYJ's part was the cause of the break up. And obviously SM, as well as everyone else in the industry are going to prevent them from appearing, it could cause serious damage to the way agencies work nowadays.
If a group can break away from their agency and still be fully operational, it's likely others will follow.
This is highly subjective, but I think working for SM is probably one of the best options you have as an idol.
I don't want to go too deep into this, simply because I lack the knowledge and time but if you really want to learn more I suggest reading trough this, http://oniontaker.com/tagged/jyj and judge for yourself.
I fail to see how, worst contracts out of any agency, also onion is both not very credible and a sm fanboy.
Sm pays you the least money and forces you to stay the longest. Sure they have the most pull but you're not necessarily going to benefit.
I also fail to see how jyjs greed was at fault when the courts have agreed that their contracts and treatment was unethical, and that sm also has to stop cockblocking them.
To suggest that anyone other than sm and maybe the rest of the big 3 care about preventing jyj from performing is ridiculous, especially if you're a tv station like kbs or whatever because you know a jyj appearance will boost ratings like no other performer could.
Edit- reading 3 of those onion posts just confirmed that he doesn't know what he's talking about. Contradicting facts and actual credible sources, sounds like an idiot.
Actually lol'd at the ignorance. But kewl.
Who said greed was at fault? It was the main motivator, that's the issue here. It's no fault to want the best for yourself, it's simply that JYJ overestimated the support they would have, or rather underestimated the hostility they would face, once they took legal action to break the contract instead of dealing with it in-house.
Almost any group could take their company to court and technically win in legal terms. Whether the industry will accept them back is another issue altogether.
With the eye of the government on them from as early as 2008 (as a market leader in a growing prestige export industry), SM have had to change their ways a lot internally. To say that they are worse than DSP, CCM and many smaller agencies that are completely unregulated is just silly. I've seen musicians contracts with income splits as bad as 182 and that's just the ones I know about.
And about KBS, they're not just any other TV station. It's the closest thing to state-owned major media that Korea has. Idiot? lol.
I don't feel like continuing this discussion because it won't get anyone anywhere, so just clarifying a few things:
I feel like you feel like I was replying to you (confusing I know lol) but all of that other than the edit was directed at Waterhaak, who clearly stated "Greed on JYJ's part was the cause of the breakup". I agree with what you said above, although if I were in their shoes and I'd still have done the split, you don't get on TV for performances but you're still huge and make bank and aren't required to stay with SM for 13 years (a contract which is both excessive and, contrary to what you seem to imply in your post, is not typical in the industry). But that's irrelevant anyway...
I also fail to see how CCM is a "small" agency- as a subsidiary of Mnet I'd argue they're pretty big. It's the parent company and not whatever the subcompany decides to call itself that counts.
Also I used KBS as a random name for an example of a TV station/content distributor. Either way the fact that they're government owned (which I was aware of) is irrelevant for the purpose of my example. The whole KBS thing was directed at the dude I was replying to anyway, who implied that the industry as a whole had motivation to cockblock JYJ.
Although I can't claim to have "contacts" like you, I don't think the ratio you described is atypical even for Western artists, for album sales at least. (the difference being ofc that western artists get far more of the pie in endorsement deals and shit like that). But that's irrelevant anyway. I'm not going to pretend that any idol company gives you a favorable contract cause they're all terrible. Just that if it were up to me I wouldn't sign with SM.
And I still disagree with your blog posts.
edit- @new guy/hallowed/purpl3- Not sure I'd want to be the world representative of Kpop anyway. At least foreign kpop, cause everything I've seen of it outside of this thread and like 2 IRL friends foreign kpop is comprised of annoying teenage girls and/or mentally deficient people.
@pulse- can't recognize Minah when sh'es not trying to make her eyes look as small as possible, or, as they call it "eyesmiling".
Sure, we can stop discussing it if you like. So despite the fact that you took the cheap dig of pretending to be the bigger man in your first line before continuing the discussion by incorrectly pointing out things in my post, I guess I'll stop myself at just clarifying why despite your explanations, I still feel that the posts and edits weren't aimed at Waterhaak but myself:
Edit- reading 3 of those onion posts just confirmed that he doesn't know what he's talking about. Contradicting facts and actual credible sources, sounds like an idiot.
When you launch a personal attack on someone and you get a reply back, don't be surprised. When the reply addresses your points with the view of dismantling them without calling you an idiot who doesn't know what he is talking about, try not to pretend you're the bigger man.
I'll save you the trouble of having to read another wordy spiel in response to the individual points you set out by ending the discussion as you want.
Since I should be contributing something, SSF will be doing a charity auction of exclusive SNSD merchandise where all proceeds go to KRPS (charity founded by Sooyoung's father). HITSNY are also considering a similar auction (where a part of the proceeds will go to KRPS) with things like the shoes the girls wore during Live with Kelly and their tour jackets which is pretty big in terms of memorabilia since it's stuff they wore during their first wave of activities in the US.
Never really liked hyomin due to how f"!%ng annoying she was on IY so i guess i never noticed but...daaamn she has got a perfect body right there, that is all.
Also for any europeans who like football; Mad props to running man for getting both park ji sung and rio ferdinand on that show, aswell as a north korean footballer
Aw no subs, that's really nice though. She's been around for such a long time and she's barely coming on in shows, I think the running man episode was also her first appearance in a variety show?
The rest of my SM Town SNSD pics are up http://withsosi.com/xe/41235 Google concert should be up in a couple days, then I'll get the rest of the artists!
