To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
  • Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
  • When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
  • No reposting of old material unless justified
  • Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
  • No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
  • Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
  • No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
  • No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
  • Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)

Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.

Move to a real city.

Dang I thought you quoted me and I was about to go crazy up in this...

Dystopia if you don't mind sharing where do you live? They've had shows in LA and NY are those cities too far for you?

Chicago and Boston. Boston is close-ish to NY but all those concerts happened when I had other shit to take care of and so couldn't go. Also if I recall the NY lineup was shitty, but I may be confused?]

also why can't ya'll Canadians just get along? Thought ya'll were supposed to be all friendly and shit.

are you from the city or the burbs in Chicago?

north suburbs but I just say Chicago because people actually know where that is.

edit- also A Cube has 4 artists damn it!

Move to a real city.

Move to a real country.

Move to a country that doesn't start wars because they want the oil and minerals there.

OK I'm pretty sure I started it but lets stop with this "real country" stuff. I love every country as much as I love k-pop OK! I'd share something to bring this back to Music but I can't so just look at the comment above mine for Kpop stuff!

If anyone could understand doing battle over minerals and gas you'd think it would be Korea.

I couldn't find whoever referenced it before, so whatever:

Shinee's new album I thought was pretty good. The title track is pretty good, and it's a mashup of two of the other tracks on their album.

I'm posting this on Neogaf as well so excuse me if you frequent their K-pop thread.

I had a really good time at the Korea Night 2012 in Toronto. I'm really bad at describing events so I'm going to be brief.

The line for the concert stretched around a city block, my friend and I got there around 7 which was when doors opened but we didn't get in until almost 8. When we got in we bee lined to the 19+ area. It's where the bar was and also all the mom's and dad's waiting to pick up their kids afterwards. We had a great time there because it wasn't crowded, had a good view and booze.

The event itself went like clockwork. A-Pink went on stage promptly at around 8 and performed 4 songs. It's quite a sight seeing K-Pop live as opposed to on Korean TV. You get a good view of the the fantastic synchronized choreography. My My was the end song and they had the crowd chanting "my my" during the song. It was cute that they mentioned the sight seeing (CN Tower, Eaton Centre). All the members introduced themselves and said they loved being in Canada. They really seemed like they knew how to work an audience. They only used their rehearsed english and said nothing really straying off script. I was there mainly for them and honestly it was more than I expected. I was prepared for 2 songs. But they performed Wishlist and Let Us Just Love too.

I'll gloss over the rest because I wasn't as into the rest of the show. Teen Pop probably got the most screams from the crowd. It was mainly teens in attendance. Man, they really put on a show. I don't know their songs but a lot of fangirls were singing along. Highly energetic set as expected from a boy band. Next was G.Na. Since she's Canadian she did quite a lot of audience banter. Her set was quite good. My friend didn't know her material and said he was won over by her performance. Her vocals were top notch. She got quite a lot of fan chants actually. G.Na seemed quite happy to be there, she mentioned that she's near sighted and couldn't tell how many people were there lol. Brian Joo was the final mainstream act and man, did the fangirls go nuts over him. He must be American because his english is fluent. Anyways, he did his set and really put on a good show. His on stage chit chat was quite funny. He mentioned how since it was a school night lots of girls must have skipped school to line up for the concert. Someone from Teen Pop came on to rap during one of Brian's songs. Not familiar with his work but the screams were pretty deafening.

I didn't stay for 3rd line butterfly, crying nut and yellow monsters. They are probably excellent but I was pretty drunk by the end of Brian Joo and my friend had to go because of work the next day.

I was glad it was a club show. It felt very intimate. I really hope I get the chance to see another K-pop concert.

They announced that she would debut in Japan awhile ago in November/December. I think the Japanese version of Good day also had a MV release recently.

Sounds like an awesome time, Quadratic. Brian is indeed from New Joisey (just like Ailee) - thanks for the photos and writeup, really cool that APinku did 4 songs. I would have expected like you did just a couple.

Taemin's hair is an atrocity though. Whoever thought it was a good idea should be arrested it's so bad.

Pretty catchy song. Lol Taemin is the guy with the long hair right? LOL looks like a girl. I don't understand... that hair style doesn't go with any concept of Sherlock hahahaha

It's a shame you didn't get to see 3rd Line Butterfly, they are amazing.

And my favorite song.. The transition at 1:17 is haunting

I strongly recommend people interested in some different forms of korean music to check out Jeong Mina. She is a fusion gayageum player with a beautiful voice and some great songwriting. RecAndPlay did a series of videos of her playing in various locations.

This is one of her quiet, haunting songs. But the following..

This one is a must watch in my opinion. The intro sets the tone but the song and improvisation really get going later into the video.

edit: for those that didn't know, Korea actually has a vibrant indie scene with a variety of genres represented. It's not just songwriters like Bluedawn or Adult Child (although there is nothing wrong with them). There are many jazz artists, metal bands, experimental musicians, rock bands etc. I listen to as much kpop as the next guy but everyone should really explore some of the talent in other genres as well.
