their japanese album was pretty mediocre imo, but I know some people thought it wasn't bad. the boys was just the nail in the proverbial coffin for me. I don't think I'll ever look forward to an snsd comeback with high expectations.
RDR was good, as well as their japanese album if we just overlook that it was in japanese. New album do have some good tracks but they lack something seriously title track. But I agree that lately they have had a disturbingly high amount of not so great songs.
It probably will be hard for me to get my expectations up for a SNSD comeback again but that doesn't mean i'm gonna stop hoping. If T-ara can come back from YaYaYa even SNSD could hopefully bounce back even though it has taken them a lot longer.
Sometimes I check the nationality of the producers of what songs I like and what songs I don't like, and the songs that I do like are disproportionately often produced by Scandinavians and the songs that I dislike are disproportionately often produced by Americans (*Tee Arrr Eksss*).
For example, only two songs I liked from The Boys were Oscar and Trick. I don't think I enjoy listening to any of the other ones. The songs were catchy, pleasant, didn't have cringe worthy English, "layered" (yeah I don't even know what I means) Nothing that brings out or diminishes the talent of SNSD, but just the songs themselves were good. Even the fake sounding processed vocals sounded well done . . . yeah I'm weird.
I have only recognized it within SM but I do agree that the tracks scandinavians has been involved in are usually a lot better than those by americans, so my personal preference is the same as yours. Way back somebody asked why Teddy Riley got all the blame when they were so many involved in the song. For me it's because of that damn (T.R.X) in the beginning, that's just as bad as JYP announcing in every song they releases that he was involved in it.
I don't know if you left out Telepathy on purpose or not but that was one of the more popular songs on their new album.
Otherwise no, a lot of great k-pop songs sometimes don't make it to the charts. If you do a quick google search you can find a lot of people's personal top favorites. That might help!
Also since my post isn't boring here is a video of Shinee imitating how their fans call their names lol.
edit: am I the only one who like's T-ARA's YaYaYa? T_T

I guess northern Europeans are just beastly at like . . . mixing shit and producing dope ass beats. I mean, they're extremely prominent in the electronic music scene as well and have been since forever.
I'd probably include Telepathy if I could stand the chorus. It sounds like typical SNSD fare, so pretty decent.
Teddy Riley got all the blame because he *chose* to plaster his name over everything. Yeah pretty much
I'm also going to punch someone the next time I hear "jyp" being whispered eerily at the beginning of a song.
I didn't like Yayaya that much, but the other songs on the album were pretty good, also Jiyeon was really qtpie during those perfs.Which is also a bit with the Boyz for me, although I really dislike the Boyz, Seohyun looks good.

yeah I can't stand the jyp bullshit too, and I can't stand the trx bullshit but seriously that's not the only problem. While I think you're pushing it with the scandinavians > us thing, and I don't think The Boys title song is that bad, but still it is so obviously butchered, a ten year old kid with a ten year old computer could've done a better job on it. And to earlier, if you think it's weird you don't like The Boys it means you been around Soshified too much lol. We, as in kpop fans, we are not supposed to like it are we, it's for Americans who have no idea what kpop is or sth like that, sorry btw this post really has no direction I'm so damn tired right now.
So anyway my point was if I wanted western music I'd go watch those biebers or whatever it is in the US nowadays I don't even know because I don't follow that shit, the reason I'm into Soshi and similar bands is because they are different, as soon as you mingle them with Teddy Riley or any similar pollution that difference will fade and then why would I give a shit anymore? And I don't just mean the music, it's the whole package, the Teee Arrr Ex, the tell your friends we born to ween, the wiping floors with their asses, all that stuff is pathetic, this is what I can't stand about western music and it bothers me seeing them degraded like that. I say degraded but not because I think oh wow they are pure and innocent superhumans let's all treat them like deities, but because, yeah actually nevermind, I just don't have it today do I, usually I just give up and try not post the garbage but whatever
yayaya wasn't great and it wasn't too bad either. at least it was catchy~
and that comparison between t-ara and snsd isn't really applicable. snsd had 2-3 mediocre-bad EPs/albums, whereas t-ara only had one bad (subjective, to some people on this thread) single; the rest of the tracks on Temptastic were pretty good.

And yeah, I've seen a couple of last.fms of people from the KMD thread in all my time lurking like Craton's and Unichan's and don't actually even recall seeing any English music on them :S
I considered making a poll but it felt like too much effort
That's cause I started using it after I started listening to kpop. http://www.last.fm/user/TuElite Our favorite Nicole lover has quite a bit of English (or at least European/white/whatever) music.
I was wondering where the LastFM friends requests came from...
On that topic, diversity is amazing. I speak French and English fluently so I fully understand both culture's music. I'm starting to understand a bit of Korean too but man, having access to music from different cultures and being able to understand it is just amazing and makes me want to learn all the languages of the world.
To me KPop is mostly happy music, I listen to KARA's Step on the bus on my way to school to wake-up :D. Other than that I listen to the new stuff when it comes out / get posted here and I use KPop as background music when I play Starcraft.
I'm a bit of an Hip-Hop head and therefore a bit of an elitist, I try to mostly seek, find and listen only to the best rappers out there and the more languages you know, the more it expand your catalog because believe it or not they are incredible rappers all around the world, not just in the States, proof of that is Epik High, Drunken Tiger, Verbal Jint, etc. There's probably some ridiculously dope Italian rapper that I'm not aware of, brb learning Italian.

we are the one per.... meh w/e, i like that song
I'm guessing that about an equal portion of all Diadem's liked Yayaya as Sone's with The Boys. It's definitely not an easy song to like.
i dont even know what diadem is.... @_@ Guessing thats T-ara FC?
the song has a fast pace beat which suit for my current APM training, have been listening to it a lot and will continue to do so until im top 2 control
Yayaya was the first T-ara song I heard because it was playing on GSL stream this time last year rofl. It's not SO bad, but their other songs are much better.

verbal jint isn't that great anymore. His EP before go easy was way better. Tablo got hella soft too; if I wanted to listen to shit like tomorrow or bad I'd go download more big bang.
Epik High and LeeSsang are god tier khiphop. [Lovescream, Pieces, Part 1, and epilogue]/[black sun and hexagonal] are the best albums from each artist, respectively. Map of the Human Soul from EH is up there as well; that album's style reminds me a lot of the College Dropout. TigerJK is extremely good as well, along with Dynamic Duo, dumbfoundead and MYK.
So sad woollim ent left tablo hanging (forcing him to sign with yg) and with mithra still in the army, I don't see Epik High getting back together any time soon ;;;;
hueeee this pretty much sums up my opinion of him now: + Show Spoiler +

Except for Tomorrow I don't really see how Tablo sold out. It's quite understandable that the album doesn't sound like Epik High because Tablo wanted to set his own personal style to it. Talking about Tablo, did anyone else get impressed by Dear TV that was completely in english?
