Haha, it's gotta be one of the few anime I felt like I was being forced to watch it under a false hope it'd be worth it in the end. It wasn't. :D
Are you guys talking about .hack//sign? 'Cause I thought that one was pretty decent.
Oh there's more than 1? Yea, I'm talking about Sign. It just did nothing for me. I felt like it could be about half as long and it was very boring. The music is great though.
I agree it could have been half as long, but that was back in the day when odd-numbered episodes were pretty unheard of. You could be pretty sure every series would be 26 episodes or some multiple of. Nowadays you get weird stuff like 11 12 13 14 25 23 etc.
Otherwise it felt like an extension of Serial Experiments Lain, with the whole concept of digital dieties and the gradual reliance of the alternate reality as a means of escape.

Speaking of Lain; I liked that one a lot. It really had the focus to drive its point home and developed a rather empathetic main character within a short time. It's a short, but compelling story. It's screwy, but the storytelling is very tight regardless.
I actually wish more anime were 26 (Yea, economy sucks and they have to cut cost), but there seems to be a lot of half baked 13 episode animes running around. For most stories, I think a full season is needed, excluding silly comedy series like B Gata H Kei and such. =p
I sympathize with the desire for more length, but I actually prefer how it is nowadays where studios are no longer bound by 26 runs. There're more time allotment per episode (you'll find quality of production usually goes up for shorter runs), less "leeway" for re-using scenes, and there's no longer any need for fillers because they couldn't come up with exactly 26 episodes.

Hmm, I guess it also gives them the ability to continue or expand a series that does well more easily.
Yea, individual episodes would be of higher quality. A recent example is probably Angel Beats! when I was wondering "damn how much are they blowing here?" many an episode.
Campanella got stuffed with a lot of...I don't know how to describe it, fluffiness? Probably will keep on watching it since I rather liked the game.
Also, since it didn't come up, did anyone watch the Utawarerumono OVAs? I find it a shame they only took missing events from game for the first one, would've been really nice if they covered some of the missions in game that were not covered in the anime.
Did anyone watch GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka)? Just to let you guys know, there is a new manga about it. It is actually a sidestory from when Teshigawara shot Onizuka so you can't say its a sequel although some rumors are circulating that there will be a sequel anime of GTO.
The sidestory manga is called GTO :Shonan 14 days here ya go
Other than that, you should also watch Soul Eater and D.Gray Man...awesome anime.

yeah I was looking forward to that GTO sidestory/sequel but it looks like it's been postponed...haven't really looked into it (cause there's way too much stuff out there to read/watch) but it hasn't been updated in a while so I figured the group that was working on it dropped it cause of either lack of scans or lack of translator
@Ecael is the Kimikiss anime any good or is it another case of "the manga's much better"? I'm trying to figure out my priorities but jesus I have way too much planned out lol
Hmm, im still talking myself into continuing the Shonan Junai Gumi. 267 chapters is quite a read =\ and from watching the OVA of it, it didnt seem too promising. But im 100% positive the manga is 1000x better than that OVA anyways.

Yeah, its kinda sad, 29 chapters have been released and it is still stuck at 21 >.> But the good news is that Kodansha (famous publisher) made a US department and people are waiting for them to translate and all.
after looking at the stats... yeah I think I'll stop looking for new stuff. 12 Animes planned + 1 on Hold, 19 Mangas planned + 1 on Hold lol. it didn't seem that big in my bookmarks D:
I need some help picking out some new anime to watch. I've only dabbled over the past few years but i have some favorites. Any recommendations would be appreciated
Favorite Series: Ghost in the Shell Death Note Blood + Full Metal Alchemist Memories (Movie) Appleseed (Movie)
I tend to like sci-fi/tech/non-mech shows. If they require you to think about them, then they're even better (GitS and Death Note are my fav 2 and fit this description quite well i think). I typically don't like action shows (Bleach being the only exception, ZOMG episode 271/272).
Thanks for any recommendations you guys give =D -Large
Edit: Also if you know of any that are on netflix instant watch specifically that would be great! (GitS and Blood + are if you guys have netflix and want to rewatch them =D)
Recommendations List (for personal use, just keeping track of them all). Serial Experiments Lain Texhnolyze
Rainbow turning out longer then i expected. It seemed like it would end around 12-13 episodes when it first came out. Im just hoping it doesnt go downhill and unnecessarily drags on.
Yeah I was thinking it was gonna end on ep 13 or so, but it went on so I hope it stays good. The good thing about Rainbow is that it always makes the episode so much more enticing somehow. It just seems to do it better than the rest of the anime o.o
