Code Geass is your typical mecha series, except with huge amounts of trolling, and TTGL is a typical Super Robot show that really didn't add anything to the Super Robot genre (aka everything in TTGL had been done before) other than Gainex's budget. Most people who say they are unique just haven't watched enough stuff to actually be able to say that.
semantics. if the show has huge amounts of trolling, then it it cant be your typical mecha series. Because your typical mecha show does not have huge amounts of trolling.

Because one aspect of the show is not typical (even though there are plenty of other troll mecha series out there), the entire show must not be typical?
Plus, its not really true that mecha doesn't have alot trolling (Depression Tomino stuff and Evangelion are prime examples). Code Geass just expanded on the trolling. Beyond that, everything in Geass from the politics, the characters, the battles, the drama, the mechs, its not terribly different from whatever you might consider the "norm" for real robot anime.

You're right, it wasn't typical, it was terrible.
Haha, the main difference between typical mecha trolling, and Code Geass, is that Code Geass was bad lol

i never watched CG, but you said it has "huge amounts of trolling", that alone, seems more than enough for the show to be considered atypical.
anyway, this kind of discussion is completely pointless.

Well yeah, if you have never watched Code Geass, this discussion is pointless.
Code Geass was way awesome for a Mecha serie compared to most Gundams for example, but thats just my opinion. Way less whiny emo kids crying about peace and death etc. on it.

You're going to have to be more specific, there's a billion different Gundam series.
Edit: Also Peace whiner = Suzaku, like one of the main characters in Geass.

Yeah and instead it had Royalty who can turn into rockets, bad guys who turn good and then turn bad again in the very same episode for no reason, hundreds of people dressing up like Zero in order to get exiled (including animals), lots of retarded Highschool bullshit, "lol i just made ur terrain blow up" in every battle, Spinzaku, people getting divided by zero, blind men and pregnant ladies with rifles, etc etc. Code Geass isn't even close to most Gundam in terms of quality, IMO. But it is the #1 anime in Romania.
Yeah, speaking of Spinzaku, that guy is like Kira-incarnate, except without the things that made Kira a decent character in SEED.

Southlight/anyone else who may have played SRW Z2, how exactly did they work VOTOMs into the plot of the game?
I didn't read the text but I can tell you, perhaps to your chagrin, that Chirico is introduced during the Code Geass storyline. He's fighting in some underground mecha battle coliseum, eventually fights Karen, but then both he and Karen are ambushed/double crossed by the proprietors or something and the cops come. Keep them alive for a few turns and your team will come and help them.
Whenever the storyline can branch into Area 11, Chirico is available there. He has a bunch of different packs for his Scopedog and later can get a black one if conditions are met. The black one has sick good music. Parts where what I assume are VOTOMs plot elements come into play: later you see a flashback of him and his teammates all in these black mechas routing some mooks, then you need to fight a team of guys called the Red Shoulders.
Sounds like they covered the Last Red Shoulder OVA, then. I noticed alot of "Last Red Shoulder" guys in some other Z2 videos. Probably the first arc of the anime too, considering hes introduced in a Battling Arena.
I guess it makes sense for Chirico to show up in the Code Geass storyline. Just mechawise, Armored Troopers are extremely small mechs. Code Geass mechs are extremely small as well, so it works out. Kallen is like one of the only Code Geass characters I liked, so her getting introduced with Chirico is fine lol

Well I haven't seen a billion Gundams and mostly the modern ones. 00 and Seed were decent, Seed Destiny was bad and Unicorn OVAs seem pretty good.
Edit: Also Peace whiner = Suzaku, like one of the main characters in Geass.
Not saying I'm a fan of Suzaku, definitely one of of the most annoying characters in CG.
Actually shouldn't even compare CG and Gundam as they are nothing alike, Gundam are like the standard of mech animes and CG is something whole different. Personally I just prefer CG as a anime in general over Gundam's.
A lot of Amuro clones piss me off in the mecha genre. Like they missed the key point about Amuro, he likes to fight and doesn't mind killing people, just watch 0079 again. He was more pushed mental and physical exhaustion and the Bright Slap was more intended to get him to become less angsty.

Amuro didn't like fighting lol, didn't mind killing people lol, maybe you need to watch 0079 again.
There are parts of it that showed both, but a lot of Amuro clones just focuses on the "war and killing is bad" WAY WAY TOO MUCH and ignores the other parts of his character, maybe I should word it better.
