I meant to write a comment about the movie, but while linking to its imdb page I stumbled upon a user review that lays out everything I meant to say perfectly:
I didn't find it to be a mess at all, and it was certainly the best thing the Wachowskis have ever done. I'm not sure how the directing duties were distributed, so I'll uniformly praise Tom Tykwer as well.
I haven't read the book, so I can't make any comparisons there, but I don't often leave a film adaptation wanting to read the novel afterwards, as I did after seeing this.
Visually stunning, epic in scope, a strong score; the sort of film that you're constantly amazed was ever made and happy it was. Equal parts comedy, romance, thriller, and dystopian speculative fiction, it really is an astounding mix of disparate elements.
The biggest overall failure was definitely some of the make-up effects - trying to turn Doona Bae into a believable red-headed Caucasian woman was simply distracting - but the overall art & sound design was incredible.
If I could turn channels while watching TV and switch between stories and narratives as seamlessly and as deftly as the editing in Cloud Atlas, it would honestly be hard to go back to simply watching one show at a time.
Truly a marvel of multitasking on so many levels. Great stuff.
I can only recommend Cloud Atlas for being captivating until the very end.

It should if you're into deep movies and want to look behind what first meets the eye. But there will always be people who only care about fight scenes.
The Matrix is only deep if you are shallow.
And thats your opinion, of which is in the vocal minority.
I just watched Jack Reacher with Tom Cruise. I enjoyed it alot. It was really quirky and strange for that type of suspense movie. It actually got me interested in the character and so I think I'll pick up one of Lee Child's Jack Reacher books.

I don't think you can even begin to understand all the sublety, symbolism and refferences that movie has but I hope that you enjoyed your popcorn.
In a few years you'll grow up and realize that all that so called symbolism is just bullshit. Just because everything in the film is named after biblical stuff it doesn't mean it has any significance. The Matrix is a VERY simple film for teenagers, once you start digging, you realize there is no actual depth to it.

Yeah, and the majority of people are usually geniuses, right?
Skyfall 5.5/10 Just like all Daniel Craig 007's its just not that good. Its probably a little better than Casino Royale and Quantum Solace, but still not a great movie.
Total Recall 2012 Remake 3/10 I only watched it because I really like Sci-Fi Movies. The only good thing about that movie was to see the girl with the 3 titts again.

Is it? I don't think the matrix is deep, though I think it is a very good movie.

When the majority agrees on something theres usually a reason is all.

I would be hard pressed to find anyone familiar with philosophy at even a casual level who would call The Matrix deep.

What an ugly link. There's no movie in the world where you couldn't find something to criticize, but a certain amount of humanity belives that if they rate something in a very negative and seemingly intellectual way, that makes themselves superior. Nothing else to be seen here.

A pity you can't look past your own nose then. A little bit of humility would help too. I'm going to follow my own advice and reread a bit of Jacques Lourcelles, the author of a dictionnary of cinema in French who more or less hates everything after 1960, including quite a lot of my favorite movies

On of the best movies I have seen all year, by far. Sorry was good, if it was a little better it would have been 10/10. But for a 3 hour movie, it's well worth it. Looking for an awesome movie this weekend. Django is a good one. Just remember the D is silent in Django.
