They could've just made Jon say it, unless of course Stannis only told Sam. In any case, that is indeed sloppy.

Granted, I did not enjoy seeing Sam cleaning shit out of bedpans and the Freys' deaths were a bit cartoonish but everything else I really enjoyed.

Kind of plodding start, but Dany is home, and Bran is at the Wall. Those are exciting things.

I mean it wasn't the worst part of the episode, it's just a symptom, but it was pretty glaring. We've got a lot of ground to cover and not much time to do it. Compared to last season we have 55 less minutes. I think we will be fine. First episode really rushing into it would not have been great I think. Numbers 495 vs 450 minutes

I think it might be important for Arya's character arc, to see that not all Lannister soldiers are bad so she doesn't have to kill all of them

What left me puzzled the most is the precious gift that Euron intends to get Cersei. His reply to Cersei about killing his own brother was priceless since she also wants her little brother dead. mod edit: pretty sure that's book only, book only = don't post, not post in spoilers User was warned for this post

What got me thinking the most is that Jon appears in the trailer together with The Hound, Beric and Tormund, seemingly fighting the white walkers or something. So either Jon left winterfell with Sansa or Sansa convinced him that he should not rule, either way she will propably make some move to get more influence/power. I would assume that once the dead get close to the wall that the Northerns move that way, no point feeding yourself piecemeal to an army that raises the dead, so John showing up at the wall again is to be expected. And this episode set up for the rest of those you mentioned being there aswell. I get that they wanted to pay respect to the place and not take away from the beautiful scenery, or perhaps they are showing us a change in Danny's character: it seemed to me that she doesnt really give a fuck about making it her "home" and simply sees it as a launching pad for her conquest, which seems to be the case because after a long trip she went directly to the map and without wasting any time she just wants to get on with it. Also the castle was empty ... that was pretty weird too. What left me puzzled the most is the precious gift that Euron intends to get Cersei. I assume those were all intended to give the idea that she certainly gives a fuck about being home. But she is a pragmatic person and that shows with the 'Shall we begin' at the end. No point sitting about being sentimental for longer then necessary.

Maybe you're right, but those couple of moments you mentioned were devoid of any emotion, so to me it felt like she paid respect to the place rather than "feeling home" so to speak. But again, Danny doesn't display too many emotions in general and perhaps what you're saying is true.

Well we waited 6 whole seasons for Dani to reach Westeros, so I don't think a 5 minute scene of her finally arriving in her rightful home is unwarranted. Also the scenery was amazing. But they should've at least had a scene of Grey Worm saying they cleared out the tiny occupants guard or something, it being empty makes no sense.

Giving the extreme benefit of the doubt, they saw the fleet and fled? I'm just playing devils advocate, I'm with you on a minor line to just say we've secured the castle.

I am also curious what Euron's gift to Cersei will be. Arya heading to King's Landing is also suprising to me. Riverlands aren't that far away from Winterfell and even her as lone wolf should have heard the Stark's took over Winterfell again. I mean she is on her revenge trip, but I guessed she would make a quick stop at Winterfell, after all she is "Arya of the House Stark" again after being Nobody for so long. Overall I would rate this episode with a solid 7/10, but I hope they step it up in the next episodes. BTW I really dislike the decision to give Ed Sheeran a cameo, feels odd and misplaced in a series like Game of Thrones and certainly I did not need that, but maybe other people see that differently. Edit: Reading farvacola's post, I hope to see a nice ending to Jorah. Him sitting in a prison cell in Oldtown seems to make that pretty unlikely though. Sure he might be cured there, but it is a desperate move from him to go to Oldtown. At least it seems to me like it. He did not find any cure and Oldtown was probably the only way out...
