Reading this a questions comes to my mind:
I always thought the intro shows the different places the current episode will take place. I rmember dorne was in it, yet there were no scenes in the episode.
Am I missing sth.?

As I expected, as soon as something big happens, people love the show again.
I was so sure that Jon was going to die this episode when Sam said that he always comes back. Thank god I was wrong. The Valyrian steel reveal was also epic. Literally yelled out loud when that happened. The whole fight was well done, with the tension and everything. Watching Cercei suffer did make me smile as well. That bitch can suffer all day,
Now my theory for the end is Jon, Brienne and whoever wields Widow's Wail ride Dany's dragons and fight the army of the Dead, while Stannis sits on the throne eating apples.

ok holy shit that was epic. God bless valyrian steel.

also to add I thought the Walker he fought was his uncle lol. And isn't White Walkers supposed to be 7 feet tall guys. Like in S1E01 ?

the end scene was so well done... watching that scene and comparing it with the 'sand' arc is so weird. It's like, how is it the same show? lol In my humble opinion the timing was way too convenient in this episode. Get there, talk a bit, oh and randomly the white walker army appears at that exact moment. Like, really? Felt like watching sand snakes 2.0, but this time with a giant to make it less cheesy and more amusing. The timing makes sense to me. It's more likely the white walkers were just biding their time (they can wait aeons after all) as they've done from the start, building up their army without costly confrontations. Why waste meat when the wildlings were trapped with no food and winter coming? The arrival and loading of the boats precipitated the attack.

I was talking more of the quality of the scene. The scene was move-esque. With the sand arc, it was just cheesy lines, acting, and just silly (eg. whipping the bucket in the sand to reveal a person buried in the sand, etc).
I can see your view on the scene being too convenient but how else are you going to show such an epic scene with the mass wildings, jon snow, and white walkers. I think you might not like the writings (based off books) rather than how the scene was done/directed. The quality of the scenes from the sand snake arc seemed low quality, in my opinion; while this last scene seemed epic and well done.
The last 15 minutes of the episode had me at the edge of my seat.

Lol it's a fucking story.. Of course timings like that are going to happen to make things more interesting. Things happen for the sake of plot. The whole reason why that timing occurred was so that John could escape with the wildlings but also show the power of the Whitewalkers and make things exciting with an altercation. If it happens any earlier then the wildlings all die and if it happens any later then well it wouldn't happen or there would be no point to it since there's no point of view character to tell it from without Jon. People seriously complain about the stupidest stuff as if this weren't a fantasy story.

Its been like that alot this season... convenient timing. Gives it a less wild and unpredictable feel, a little bit more like traditional Hollywood storytelling.
The zombie army/walkers were pretty cool though.

Probably my favorite episode of the entire series. Everything was really well down, especially the sound.

How do you make that stuff exciting and cool without it being convenient though? Like really, there are a ton of convenience in fantasy stories. Like how did Gandalf happen to arrive with the army just in time to save everyone in the battle of Helm's Deep and not half an hour later and find them all dead? I think that's just unnecessary nitpicking, it's a fantasy story, cool shit happens at convenient times.
Also this way the characters get a lot more development. Jon knows who the leader of the White walkers is, Valyrian steel kills them. The threat now has a proper face. If that stuff happened off screen, it would be mysterious sure, but frustratingly so.

Its not nitpicking its a definite change from previous seasons. Maybe its changed more gradually as the show has gone on even. Everything in the first 2 seasons appeared to be quite inconveniently timed if anything, I think I was mostly annoyed about Jorah and Tyrion just happening across the Queen they had both been desperately searching for after being captured by slavers. Its just poor storytelling imo, and takes away the sense of hardship that being captured by slavers is supposed to convey. The zombie attack was just another example of that, but it works better in terms of the story.
It feels like its become both rushed and too slow at the same time (which obviously doesn't make sense but its just how i feel about it).
Maybe I am nitpicking, but I still love the show, I just don't think its as good as it once was.

Then again it is game of thrones. I mean, all the weddings, viper vs mountain, valeryan steel when dragonglass was the obvious answer ...
The best thing in this show is its unpredictability. The obvious things do not always happen, right?
So just wait and see like I do.

I think it is called song of ice and fire for a reason. Anything but big ice vs fire finale would not make much sense.

Best episode of the season. Cersei dirty and humiliated, Tyrion awesome as ever, an epic battle, the big picture moving forward - what's not to love?
|
i was so waiting for the whitewalker to create a path of ice so they could attack the ships and thought all the time why dont you row faster?!
|
The last scene with the Whitewalker, I honestly expected him to do Kane's intro from WWE
+ Show Spoiler +
starts at 1:15

Sam: "Jon always comes back" FFS Tarly
Tyrion back where he belongs, nice.
Tyrion and Jorah, when rowing through Valyria, commented on how advanced Targaryen society was compared to the rest of the known world. And the one time you'd need them, well, they're dead.
