Well you gotta keep in mind that Oberyn didnt realy care for Tyrions fate. He "threw" the fight the moment he decided that simply killing the mountain would not have been satisfaction enough so he got greedy...

If you are going to interrogate someone, who happens to be one of the strongest fighters in westeros, before you kill him maybe just maybe you should at least stab the arms or maybe even the leg just so that he cant get up (though I have no idea if he is actually going to survive).

Well he pierced the mountains leg and shounder thats why he collapsed in the first place. I think pulling out the spear was the real mistake, leaving it would prevent the bleeding and prolong the mountains death anyways and would have kept him pinned down.

I nearly broke my foot kicking the wall after that episode. Oh my Oberyn. What a way to go that shit was gruesome. Also he threw that fight so hard. Also he was an awesome character. Also Tyrion is now sentenced to death.

Whhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyy!!!?!?!?!?!?!?
I swear... this series just takes everything I love about it and rips it away. If they actually kill the imp I'm done. So done.

I liked the moment when Tywin shut up pycelle. Its hard to stand his ramblings and Tywins no BS attitude is his most redeeming quality.

Mmmm, tears

What I realized when I was reading the books, is that Martin's complete disregard for killing his characters made me feel actual fear when they got into trouble.
Most books, especially fantasy, you react to the characters being in danger in an almost cinematic way. Sure it sucks, but hey they're a main character so they have to get out somehow right?
What Martin does is give you the feeling that NO character is truly safe and it makes the danger they encounter in the story far more impacting.
It's really quite masterful.

Well the problem is that once you picked the wings of a fly, it just crawls around. You cant kill off every interesting/likeable character and expect people to continue watching just to see who dies next.

Well good thing there are plenty interesting/likable characters left then Theon, LF, Arya and the Hound are those i like besides Tyrion. Others like Bran, The Wall, Danny and Stannis i would honestly not tune in to watch unless theirs stories and characters are radically improved. But Danny for example only seems to get worse.

That episode was so game of thrones. I must say that the idea that the "bad guys" win a lot is great and it makes the show often. But I will also say that it is now kind of predictably bad in a way. My friend and I were calling that oberyn was fucked the whole fight. So by being unpredictable it seems that the show is becoming predictable? I dunno. Just thoughts.

I really feel like he should have won that and maybe have Tyrion die some other way. Oberyn was just way too bad ass to kill off in such a silly way as that. Not having gotten to that part in the books, I was really relishing in how much Oberyn dominated The Mountain, and only to see him die all of a sudden like that is a real downer. To be completely honest, I think GRRM is shoving a bit too much injustice into his books, as if it's his fetish.

Well the problem is that once you picked the wings of a fly, it just crawls around. You cant kill off every interesting/likeable character and expect people to continue watching just to see who dies next. That would be true if he didn't also create a storyline that was so engrossing that it surpasses even the characters in importance. The characters in Game of Thrones are just pieces on a chess board, there's a bigger picture, a whole world that feels truly alive. Unlike other stories, that would just fall apart if you took the characters out, Westeros feels like the real world. Kill an important person off and sure it's a big deal, but the world doesn't stop turning, Winter doesn't stop coming. Keep faith, you'll see what I'm talking about. I will watch the show without Tyrion, but you can't convince me that someone can fill that hole when I have to spend a ton of time watching Hodor and the wonder kids trek through the snow and avoid the ice zombies and the other half watching Danny sit in a city and fight with her counselors. Tyrion would leave a huge void in terms of awesome main characters D:

Particularly middle ages were goddamn brutal if stories are to be trusted.
Also, that result is quite logical, The Mountain revels in the rage and brutality of combat. Oberyn was an agile, calculated risk taker, and smart fighter. He let his rage get to him and cloud his judgement, he entered The Mountain's domain and got smashed, it's only logical.

You could have oberyn with that fight and it would seem just as logical. Give me a break, you cant analyze combat like that. The smallest thing can turn the tide when in a fight. Neither Oberyn nor The Mountain winning the dual should matter logically when it comes down to it.
