I haven't been a huge fan of this season so far but this episode is just ridiculous.
Don't pretend to go dark for a single episode just to steer it away with some bullshit "forgive yourself" message.
A clear example what happens when a writer wants to be edgy but doesn't have the balls to actually take the characters anywhere. A single episode in wich dexter goes near serial killer and then bounces back to superhero dexter?
And for what? He didn't kill Jonah cause he bashed in his abusive mother? Ooh im sorry Dex i didn't know you gave a pass on that but ofcourse a weed grower needs to get a pitchfork in the gut.
Look into the light of your heart, forgive yourself and embrace your lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Without light there is no darkness!!! This is some Japanese anime level philosophy. I could not agree any more. The episode was perfectly horrid. Stealing a gun from a gas station that certainly has his license plate after boning the teenage employee? He left more loose ends than in the first 3 seasons. Also, the depiction of his brother as a reckless, impulsive murderer doesn't fit the original one at all. The Icetruck killer was much more deliberate, calm and calculated.
Well it's just in Dexters head, so it's not supposed to be what his brother was, but what he was to Dexter.

Why would a gas station in a remote area have his plate? They don't have cameras or people taking jotting them down lol You think the girl is going to say oh yeah someone stole the gun while i was fucking a guy in the back? She probably thinks someone else took the gun anyways. Even so, it's a rental and we know Dexter has aliases. And that's because that's not actually his brother.... Besides, Brian only did all that so Dexter would take special notice. Who knows how he killed people before finding his brother.

So much this. After a cool last episode this one was just retarded. An interesting potential storyline wasted for nothing. The whole fuck a random girl and shoot at streetsigns scene had me almost close the player. And meanwhile the back and forth between the murderer and the professor, product of imagination or not, was so uninteresting and repetitive. At least the Deb-Quinn thing has an end now, it seems.

It's completely in Dexter's character to let Jonah go though. In season 1, he let another kid that killed their abuser go.

I really think they need to embrace Dexter's darkness, and I can't believe they did not stretch this Brian thing out over a few episodes. He is such a great character.
Dexter going to the dark side will be a disaster for the show, no one can identify with senseless killing.
Dexter, like the rest of the guys at the police station, still believes Gellar is alive. Probably until the episode labeled "Get Gellar", 2 eps from now.

This episode felt so out of place in so many ways, The editing and directing seemed to have changed drastically in this episode. It didn't have that Dexter vibe like most episodes do. Seemed like there was too much CGI or something. I agree with the previous posts though, this episode was terrible. I thought this episode was going to be amazing judging by the previous weeks preview. Boy was I wrong.

Dunno, the more episodes pass, the more I think Gellar is real :o
btw dunno if anyone noticed

hhahahaha wow epic find, kudos to you
good episode as always. I wish dexter's brother never died. would be epic to see some killing sprees

I wondered why that pitchfork was so weird looking.

How? It's a normal looking pitchfork to me, only difference is that its covered in blood.

Dexter has a huge soft spot for kids in bad situations, due to his own past and his weakness for his son. I think he even said "What if this were my son..." before he let Jonah go.

What is that old man and wife pitchfork painting from? Was it in the episode or something?
Anyways I gotta say this was the silliest episode I've ever seen.

The painting is called American Gothic. It is a very famous painting.

People used to think you couldn't identify with a serial killer either.
The writers were wrong. People can feel for any character no matter the acts he commits, all the audience needs is proper justification.

Let's not get too much logic involved. The world of Dexter is filled with dozens of obvious plotholes.
Take for example how the trinity wife supposedly decided not to rat Dexter out to the police...but she does still love Trinity and has literally no reason not to betray the man that from her point of view ruined her life.

That whole "I am a murderer but also a good guy" routine is getting boring. Actually no, it got boring after season 2. Now it's just getting pathetic. So many episodes we have to do the whole "Am I a good guy? No I'm a bad guy... Oh wait No I am a good guy again!" routine. For once I just wish Dexter would snap and show us how much of a monster he really is. He doesn't have to stay that way, but it certainly needs to be longer than an episode.

Great Episode, all the people on here whine too much imo. The people that enjoyed last episode don't come here as often.

The whole point of the series is that he deals with his darkness by killing people he has proven are guilty. Either they walk on some technicality or he finds them himself and uses his forensic skills to prove they are guilty. Then he makes them pay for their crimes by killing them. Like...that's the whole premise of the ENTIRE series. If you don't like it then don't watch, but there are many people that can relate to someone who they believe is sooooo guilty but the justice system lets them get away or they have the money to afford those super expensive lawyers and get away with murder. Dexter is there to clean up the justice systems mess.

I like how Dexter has such a hard time believing in god or higher powers this whole season when he regularly convenes with fucking ghosts like it's no big deal. Either this rational, intelligent and coldly logical guy is somehow completely unaware of his own insanity or the creators have written themselves into a corner when he didn't acknowledge it when Ghost Dad first showed up, and now it would appear like they are breaking the fourth wall for Dexter to actually realize how silly it is for him to routinely be talking to dead people like it's no big deal.
This show sucks, but I keep watching every season
