Its just a movie with a one off idea of a joker origin. I have room for this.

+1 will watch da flick, genuinely addicted to good actors performing good scripts <3 .. for good directors (??) Anyone else intrigued why a book would not feature its creator's monogram on the cover/poster? i will see it for sure however, so many movie trailers ended up with movies so disappointing in the past (particularly with the scripts) that i have to play the old frankenfurter from transexueltransulvania and say that we might well be "Caught with a flat?! .. " " .. Well how about that!!!"

This Joker seems to be a completely different tone than anything we've seen so far.And it doesn't look like its connected with the DCU?

Heh, "The First Gamer" on this list is like the "New School" for me. All the others are pretty much infants still... About the movie itself I have pretty high hopes for it. Joker is an interesting character that can be portrayed in many ways and I kind of like the vibe this movie gives me. We'll have to wait and see. Also, I'd totally love it if they did more of the villain origin stories/movies to counter-balance all the hero crap we have going on nowadays (usually villains are more interesting personalities than heroes).

Phoenix carried that movie hard and he will carry this one too it seems, amazing trailer. I'm not sure what it's gonna be though, is it a sympathy movie for the Joker? Is this trailer like only the first 20mins, or is this pretty much the whole movie?

Low budget, heavily improvised character study is pretty much all that we know so far.

Besides they somehow managed to link the birth of joker and batman in the storyline at the same time. That was impressive(which i didn't expect at all .. i really expected it to be just a beautiful rendition of a joker movie)

I still enjoy the film, but I'm not sure it needed to be a joker story. The cinematography was great, and the angle taken was very interesting and a good depiction of mental illness although it was meandering a bit and Arthur never quite click as the joker for me. But most of all as the saying goes "why so serious?". The social commentary is a bit too much on the nose + Show Spoiler + His speech on TV made me cringe and he literally get punch in the face by the 1% Still it's very much worth going to see it, it is a very good depiction of someone going mad and it's a welcome breath of fresh air in the superhero genre.

Hardly has anything to do with superheroes, being 'fed up' with superhero movies is no reason to avoid this one. It has more in common with say, Taxi Driver than with.. any actual superhero movie I've seen. I share the sentiment. It's a great movie all on its own. I really like how they managed to make such a good movie with little budget. Music and scenography in it are phenomenal and Phoenix's performance is nothing short of stellar. If you like heavy, character driven slow burner movies this is the one for you. If you expect a lot of action and over the top stuff you might want to steer clear of it.

There's also some very curious and more ambigious stuff about + Show Spoiler + which parts are Arthur's imagination and which actually happened

The fact that + Show Spoiler + my friend and I walked out disagreeing about whether he ended up killing the "love interest" My initial read on that one was + Show Spoiler + Arthur only got violent whenever he felt betrayed or threatened and nothing we saw indicated that here. I feel like it was the same case as it was with Gary the short clown. There was some police siren on the background afterwards too, but nothing seemed to come out of that either.

I didn't get the sense that he had killed her when I was watching it, I think the death would have been raised either by the police or he would have admitted to that one too if she was killed.

the music reminded me of The Dark Knight, but kind of twisted My mom loved it so much that we went back a second time. + Show Spoiler + Something that resonated with me a lot as a med student was how Arthur had noone to turn to when in need (because of his mental condition), no friends and no social services available, it's something that happens a lot here in Chile. There is a big stigma against mental illness and how you are supposed to "tough it up" when going through tough times or hardships, despite that quite often people end up developing actual mental disorders that require some form of therapy.

I cant think of any other reason they would decide to cast bob for the role other than to play homage.
