We finally have a trailer, but also a release date of October 4th. Keep in mind this is under the Elseworld Universe/King of Comedy, thus the failed comedian angle and not Nolan's ex CIA/Psychological ops soldier gone crazy. Also note the young Bruce Wayne. The laugh sold it for me.

I'm legitmatly interested in this. It does seem to be more on the vein of Nolans "superheroes with no superpowers" gritty realness instead of the depressing mess that snyders DC universe ended out to be.

Its just a movie with a one off idea of a joker origin. I have room for this.

Looks a lot closer to Man of Steel than the other slew of junk DC has spewed out lately. I’m hoping it wasn’t just “movie trailer magic” that made me genuinely interested in this one.

I hope its revealed his mother's name is Martha. I'd also have to imagine he's going to use his "One bad day" speech from Killing Joke at the end of the movie.

Anyone else intrigued why a book would not feature its creator's monogram on the cover/poster?

i will see it for sure however, so many movie trailers ended up with movies so disappointing in the past (particularly with the scripts)

It seems like people have an attention span of a goldfish nowadays. How many jokers have we had in the past few years? Three? We also have had like 3 spider mans and 2 super mans and 2 batmans. And then there's the never ending Marvel movies. God I hate superheroes, they are just so boring. Also...

I personally don't mind, as long there are good movies and they're exploring different things. Into the Spiderverse has convinced me I'd actually to see more as long they're super cool.

This Joker seems to be a completely different tone than anything we've seen so far.And it doesn't look like its connected with the DCU?

It's the equivalent of an Elseworlds spin-off. This Joker won't appear in the DC cinematic universe.

Heh, "The First Gamer" on this list is like the "New School" for me. All the others are pretty much infants still...

About the movie itself I have pretty high hopes for it. Joker is an interesting character that can be portrayed in many ways and I kind of like the vibe this movie gives me. We'll have to wait and see.

Also, I'd totally love it if they did more of the villain origin stories/movies to counter-balance all the hero crap we have going on nowadays (usually villains are more interesting personalities than heroes).

It feels like this is what happens when Commodus reincarnates in the 21st century after having to live two millennia with the shame of being killed in the arena by a wounded Maximus lol

Phoenix carried that movie hard and he will carry this one too it seems, amazing trailer. I'm not sure what it's gonna be though, is it a sympathy movie for the Joker? Is this trailer like only the first 20mins, or is this pretty much the whole movie?

Low budget, heavily improvised character study is pretty much all that we know so far.

Giving this thread a bump seeing as it released a couple of days ago, thought it was very good film but not what I expected going into it. Very dark very violent at times and it is very much an origin story, its all about Arthur and not the Joker until the end if that makes any sense.

I had a blast watching it. It was pretty damn good.

Besides they somehow managed to link the birth of joker and batman in the storyline at the same time. That was impressive(which i didn't expect at all .. i really expected it to be just a beautiful rendition of a joker movie)

Went to see it, Phoenix performance is amazing, but the movie didn't quite click completely with me.
I still enjoy the film, but I'm not sure it needed to be a joker story. The cinematography was great, and the angle taken was very interesting and a good depiction of mental illness although it was meandering a bit and Arthur never quite click as the joker for me.

But most of all as the saying goes "why so serious?". The social commentary is a bit too much on the nose + Show Spoiler +

His speech on TV made me cringe and he literally get punch in the face by the 1%

and Arthur goes to a never ending amount of shit situations, but he never seem to quite seem to get what's funny about it, even at the end he's more sinister than playfull. It seems to be an origin story for a serial killer more than the "clown prince".

Still it's very much worth going to see it, it is a very good depiction of someone going mad and it's a welcome breath of fresh air in the superhero genre.

Fantastic performance by Phoenix, and a great movie overall. Hardly has anything to do with superheroes, being 'fed up' with superhero movies is no reason to avoid this one. It has more in common with say, Taxi Driver than with.. any actual superhero movie I've seen.

I liked it. Didn’t get all the pearl clutching about this movie from many critics. People are a bit over sensitive about these things and try read too much into them IMO.
