I share the sentiment. It's a great movie all on its own.
I really like how they managed to make such a good movie with little budget. Music and scenography in it are phenomenal and Phoenix's performance is nothing short of stellar.
If you like heavy, character driven slow burner movies this is the one for you. If you expect a lot of action and over the top stuff you might want to steer clear of it.

Actually pretty interested in seeing this, I try to remain as unspoiled as possible but it sounds like a proper film and character study, and Joaquin Phoenix does tend to do work that’s interesting at the least.

Damn I pretty much fit straight into the category of people fed up with superhero movies, might need to see this one.

I think Robert DeNiro being cast in this movie was deliberate tip of the hat to Taxi Driver because the Joker's performance is the Taxi Driver of our generation. I cant think of any other reason they would decide to cast bob for the role other than to play homage.

Just watched this, and i'm also currently watching Mr. Robot series and I can see lots of similarity between the two.
Pretty good movie and really nice performance of Joaquin Phoenix.

Saw it a few days ago and liked it quite a bit. I felt like it was a pretty straightforward film for the most of it and a good one at that, but maybe that lack of subtlety and ambiguity also holds it from being any kind of masterpiece or absolute classic. Still, I liked it a lot, which is a high praise on my rating system.
There's also some very curious and more ambigious stuff about + Show Spoiler + which parts are Arthur's imagination and which actually happened and that'll make next viewing more interesting, but I'm not sure if it alone muddies the waters enough for my tastes.

Pretty good movie. Worth watching for Joaquin alone. The fact that + Show Spoiler +my friend and I walked out disagreeing about whether he ended up killing the "love interest" means it has a bit more nuance than I thought during the viewing itself.

My initial read on that one was + Show Spoiler +Arthur only got violent whenever he felt betrayed or threatened and nothing we saw indicated that here. I feel like it was the same case as it was with Gary the short clown. There was some police siren on the background afterwards too, but nothing seemed to come out of that either.

+ Show Spoiler +I didn't get the sense that he had killed her when I was watching it, I think the death would have been raised either by the police or he would have admitted to that one too if she was killed.

I thought it was a great movie, I highly enjoyed watching it, specially the score, + Show Spoiler +the music reminded me of The Dark Knight, but kind of twisted .
My mom loved it so much that we went back a second time.
+ Show Spoiler +Something that resonated with me a lot as a med student was how Arthur had noone to turn to when in need (because of his mental condition), no friends and no social services available, it's something that happens a lot here in Chile. There is a big stigma against mental illness and how you are supposed to "tough it up" when going through tough times or hardships, despite that quite often people end up developing actual mental disorders that require some form of therapy.
