http://www.syfy.com/theexpanse Its in the moderate future, Earth is polluting normal Eearth, Mars is being terraformed and they have huge mining operations going on for water Ceres, who are dependend on deliveries from the planets. These 3 factions are in a cold war and then something happens that tips the balance. Give it a try, it got better with each episode and the 4th one was pretty crazy Its not episodic and the style is a bit like BSG if that helps | ||

I really like the hard sci-fi of the series that deals with the issues of gravity, making food in space(its really hard), ship to ship combat beings super crazy dangerous and stupid. In a world without "shields", super metals and magic "tractor beams", the greatest weapon is a huge rock with an engine strapped on the back. And you only need one to destroy a planets bio sphere. | ||

The only thing which kinda makes me question if i should read it are a lot of people saying the series gets worse with each book. Would you say this is true? On the other hand a lot of people said the same about asoiaf after book three, which i didn't really agree with either soooo.... | ||

That is one of the main reasons why I like the series. The science is grounded and humanity is humanity. We didn’t magically fix our social problems, people being short sighted and people having the best intent but disagreeing on how to solve a problem. Book 4-5 are a lot of set up to a bigger story and don't have the super satisfying resolutions of the first 3. | ||

 Just one question (without spoilering :D) When you say they do "irrational, stupid things that make no sense". Is that in like 'to advance the plot no matter what' ? Or can you at least see the motivation for these actions. Personally i dislike the former quite a bit too, at least if it's too obvious. | ||

The other nice thing about the series is that Holden isn’t this perfect human and makes bad calls. But it is totally believable and you still want to cheer for him. He isn’t the best at any specific “skill” but the series does a great job of showing that leadership and trustworthiness are valuable things. And he is very funny. And some of the side characters in the later books are amazing. Chrisjen Avasarala one of the most constantly enjoyable characters in the series. | ||

I was a bit surprised to see that it actually delivered. I had very little faith in Syfy and they proved me wrong. Episode 4 is really fucking good. I can't wait to see more. No spoiler ofc, but to all of you who haven't read the books: a lot of crazy shit is coming, buckle up. | ||

The hard sci-fi is really nice change of pace: No artificial gravity, accelerating that takes time and effort, mass drivers etc. The production values are also great. Especially episode 4 was very good. I may have to start listening to the audiobooks as well. | ||

only wish it been out for like 3-4 season and there heaps of episodes to watch,first 4 were crazy good decent acting,solid story line,and the look like they have spent some decent cash on production/sets ect | ||
