Is anyone else watching this show? It started in December on Adult Swim on Mondays. Then they put it on youtube until the next episode airs. The older episodes are on the Adult Swim website, too(I'm not exactly sure about this. I could watch most episodes no problem but for one it made me login into my xfinity account for on-demand).

Rick is an alcoholic scientist who creates things like alternate reality portal guns and flying saucers. Morty is his 14 year old grandson that he usually drags along on his adventures. It's pretty wacky and over the top, but it also hits on a deeper level on occasion. The animators also draw ballsacks on most of the aliens/monsters.

I think it's really fucking good. The last two episodes in particular were fantastic, and the only one I didn't think was that good was the pilot.

They just renewed for another season. I love this show, and I'm excited to see where it goes. The writing is sooo good.

You should check out the original shorts that were the predecessors for the show. Interesting stuff they are.

Like it. Seems to be getting better as the episodes continue. Lots of room to grow and the writing is superb. Definitely a show to keep an eye on.

Glad to hear it got renewed.

You have my curiosity.

Now you have my attention.

Have seen pics or gif of it, the part where the boy shoots the alien. Will watch it later, when i can watch it with sound. >.>
It does sound interesting.

The latest adventure destroyed Morty Curious to see how this is handled in later episodes. Something tells me Rick has gone to alternative timelines before.

"Meeseeks and Destroy" was my favorite episode as well as "M. Night Shaym-Aliens!"

Yea, Morty was in like catatonic shock or something. Just seemed utterly broken by the whole thing. And definitly agree Rick has gone to altertive realities/timelines before. Makes me wonder if he's even the 'real' Rick from Morty's reality.

And you're very welcome Pibacc!

It's created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland and inspired by Roiland's (NSFW) "The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti".So yea, this is exactly right.

This show is probably one of my favourite shows ever in its current state. Every episode has been better than the previous and it doesn't seem to stop improving. Can't wait to see what comes next.

I've been spreading it around as much as possible since I saw one of the episodes randomly on reddit.

I loved it from the get-go, it's so hilarious and fresh in a way that makes you think "how has this not been done before?" because it's just so perfect. The storylines, the writing and the voice acting ("BuuUUrp- morty! A hundred years Rick and Morty! Rickandmortyahundredyears.com!") just make me howl in laughter every episode.

This is the best show on TV at the moment IMO.

What's everyone's favourite episode? I think the Meeseeks episode was sublime.

The ending of the last episode was amazing, with rick having already moved on from the disaster while morty's understanding of reality is shattered.

I'm not a redditor, but the rick and morty subreddit has the show creators/writers actively posting (I think they made the reddit a year ago too).

It's not sourced to the reddit (where the writer's posted a thread on king jellybean), but I really like the king jelly bean rationalization :p
http://rickandmorty.wikia.com/wiki/Mr._Jellybean

It's always good when scifi--regardless of it being humorous, serious, whatever--have nonhuman characters act & think in nonhuman ways.

it's on adult swim

I thought newest episode was alright, I didn't find the morty side of the plot (after the set up) all too funny or necessary. But again, have to wrap things up.

The episode started well but I thought this was one of the weaker episodes.

There was an opportunity to do so much more with the gender jokes, which could've and should've been more subtle than relying on cliches. Also, it seemed like they missed the boat on the Morty side of things, which could've become a much better plot device in the future.

Really loved the latest episode (Something Ricked this way comes), particularly after a few weaker episodes. I hope Lucius/Mr. N33dful becomes a recurring Guest Star- and the Plutonian's were a much more interesting race than the Gazoropazorps.

Lots of subtle and not so subtle jokes in there.
Lucius: Jesus, what a waste of a Monkey paw.
Pluto Scientist: Used to power things from diamond cars to golden showers.

edit:
Also, I love how they start the episodes- so classy.
e.g. "He creates a robot capable of questioning its own existence and it's just there to pass him butter. And how it tosses the butter down later...I love this show."

The next episode is the last for the season. Written by the same pair (as the most recent), according to Wikipedia. I'm hating the wait for the next episode, and I'm not sure if I can wait a whole year.

The episode last night was great. I think what I really love about the show is that it's absurd and over the top, but also hits close to home sometimes. Like when Rick was being shown the images of Morty and he started getting sentimental. But then of course he's still a dick. "Are you friends with him?! You know he eats his own shit right? Oh my god this is rich. I've got like 10 Ricks to call right now."

Last episode may have been my favorite of the season.
Its just amazing how they are able to outdo themselves with every other episode.

Also the twist with the puppeteer-morty, rick showing some emotions and the whole council-of-ricks - just fabulous.
Dan Harmon better take care that this show keeps this level should community not be around any longer.

also the mortiest morty...lol

So there are infinite number of dimensions. If stupid Rick exists then genius Morty exists too... Seems legit! Does anyone know what music is playing at the end of the episode? I would listen the shit out of it...

First season of the best show of all time is over. I have no idea how I'm supposed to wait for more than a week for my fix.

It got consistently better for every episode up to the 10th episode. This last one seemed more chill and relaxed.

Yup, that was a pretty amazing first season.

Best episodes:
Meeseeks and Destroy
M. Night Shaym-Aliens!
Something Ricked This Way Comes
Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind

The bottom two were my favourite. I loved how Rick chose to mess with the Devil, seemingly for the sake of it, but underpinned by a need for connection and to win back the affection of his granddaughter. The Pluto B-plot was inspired as well, with so many great jokes.

Close Rick-Counters was just epic. Epic. Feature film material- and all within 30 minutes.

While I loved the Lawnmower Dog episode, M. Night Shaym-Aliens! was where I felt Rick and Morty had become and was capable of being a really really special show, followed by a really strong Meeseek's episode (whom I hope have a return cameo, as much as Mr. Needful).

I saw the leak of S2E3 last week, but ending still hits pretty hard even after watching it again with the official broadcast. I just love how dynamic the show can be when it comes to emotions. One moment it's just ridiculous fun, and the next it's a sobering but valid reflections on some very real problems.

I loved Blim Blam the Korblox
+ Show Spoiler +
My name is Blim Blam the Korblok, and, cards on the table, I'm a murderer that eats babies, and I came to this planet to eat babies. + Show Spoiler +
However, I am also carrying a highly infectious disease that I suppose you could call "space aids" as you put it. And Rick did chain me up so that he could attempt to cure it. + Show Spoiler +
At the same time, Rick's motivation to cure my disease was not to save my life or anyone else's, but to patent and sell the cure for billions of blemflarcks.

Maaaaan, that last scene was just so hilarious haha.
This was an episode where they just pulled out all the cliche's and went full breaking the fourth wall. Loved it.
That one scene where they convinced Jerry he wasn't Beth's husband, and he had this secret love triangle with her "husband", just genius.

before I commit anytime to this, how similar is the humor to futurama in this, which I consider probably the least funny popular show of all time?

They seem vaguely similar so I'm curious.

They're actually quite different.
Where Futurama is wacky and is catered towards teenagers, this here is not the case.
It's cutthroat humour that doesn't sugercoat anything. It's brural honesty is very refreshing a la South Park, but alot more subtle I feel.
The only thing these two shows have in common is that they rely on "scientific" ideas to portray the theme of the show.

I am so happy I saw this thread, decided to give the show a try and WOW so happy I did. This show is so damn good. I love the black humor in this show so much, Rick is such a dick, he's like doc brown but with Dr. House's personality. The rest of the family are just great and the chemistry between all of them is awesome, really looking forward to more of this.

As another person said they have pretty much nothing in common apart from the sciencey bit. I didn't really watch futurama, but enjoyed it somewhat, but I find rick and morty to be one of the funniest shows I have ever seen.

The past two episodes have had such dark endings I love it then you cut to after the credits and they bring it back around so that it's humorous again. Rick and Morty is just an all around really well written show. I wish they dumped the whole season at once I hate waiting a week for more!

Holy shit this season is great.

Between "Keep summer safe", Mister Poopypants, the cameo of Jemaine from flight of the concords, the dark twist in some episodes, Jerry's daycare...

Top 5 rated episodes on IMDB, 4 are from season two (might be because of their freshness)
Although two of my favorite episodes are in the lowest rating. The pilot and Anatomy Park.

Raising gazorpazorp has also its moment when it goes very on the feminazism...

The best part about the show is viewing it as a parody of Dr. Who. And ending of second 2, episode 3 and "operation phoenix is a no go!", I'm along for the entire ride.

Last episode was brilliant.

They completely went full self conscious on the sequal thing. And my god did they come up with some good shit in the transdimensional television. The whole Jerry arc was also great.
Parts where I lost it: the How they do it, bit where they explain how to make a Plumbus. The other part was where they were doing the operation. We need nanodoctors!

imo ep 8 sucked, which is a shame. Usually shows have side stories, but this side story was just watching tv, i mean there were some funny moments, but overall it's just so lazy. Maybe it's just something i'm not getting, but i usually enjoy this show, so..

Also, Mortys character... at first he was so good, this anti-michael bay, insecure kid. But now he's just, idk, a twat?

Surely, you don't expect him to be the same insecure kid after seeing the vastness of the universe and seeing all that crazy shit happening.

Also seems pretty normal to me that he's a bit of a dick now. Teenage angst and shit. Constant masturbation. Bickering with his sister all the time. Sounds like a normal teenager to me at least.

Well, yeah, that makes sense. Well, I'm gonna watch ep 9 and see how things develop. I guess it's only natural they that they'd eventually get a(imo) bad episode, after the quite unreal string of amazing episodes.

I think the "bad" episode was mostly a critique on how spoonfed our television-watching-massproduction/consuming society actually is. That and the vainness of our genitals and own sexuality.
They lay it out hard before the episode starts with the here's the sequal, line, and then go over the top with the twerking assflaps for 10 seconds or something.
The entire show is based on pointing out double standards that are common practice and being self-conscious about certain stuff too.
They know they had a huge success with the first interdimensional tv episode, so they "milk" it just because the bad reputation sequals have. Lo and behold: people bicker about the laziness of the episode and the unfunny jokes used. I'm sure you've noticed the plumbus creation with its close relation to porn/sexual references, or the parody on cliche over the top action movies with some intricate plot that doesn't make any sense that was posted here before.

I don't really see a big problem with this episode. You guys give some fair critique, but I think that's just underestimating Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland (maybe I'm overestimating them). It may be a little less in line with the episodes of this season, but it certainly is on par with last season. Also, the big houseparty episode with Abradolf Linkler and the episode with all the imaginated familymembers/friends sees absolutely no critique due to an overlap in theme.

I believe the network forced them to do another inter dimensional tv episode, which is why they kinda went off on how it was stupid idea in the beginning. That said it got stale really fast and I bet they didn't put too much time into it since The Man made them do it.

I actually re-watched it, and I can now see that them fooling around led to some hilarious voice acting. Octopus-man literally killed me. That was about it for me tho

I hope it won't take 1.5 years to get season 3 though, that would be cruel -.-

It blows my mind that a show that amazing could take another year possibly 1.5 years for it's next season. I wonder if the Creators are having troubles with the network or there must be some real internal struggles going on. Rick and Morty, and Gravity Falls are the only shows I watch regularly now and both release episodes so infrequently it's hard on my soul.

On interviews I've seen with them they said they really enjoyed doing it and that it will likely become their Treehouse of Horror.

Overally Series 2 wasn't as good as Series 1 for me. Still lots of great moments but the whole thing felt a little more deflated. Top quality show though.

They said in season 3 they wanna revisit some of the things they mentioned/showed in the first two seasons.
Mr Meeseeks for example will get another episode in season 3.
I am completely fine with that, because i think they hardly explored some of their crazy and very good ideas in these episodes.

well absolutely brilliant show, that is coming from a (huge) futurama and archer fan so it is like a perfect mix of of the shows i love, season1 was a some test driving but season2 you can see the team have gotten better in putting the stories together, even the artstyle has improved haha.

I rewatch some episodes last weekend and that Unity episode is my favourite.
+ Show Spoiler +
It has nothing to do with Unity. Basically, his constant distractions serve to soothe the empty void within him. He feels so dead inside that even a fluid that LITERALLY brings inanimate objects to life, still can't make him feel alive himself. No more so than the constant drinking and inventions do. Unity was the closest he came to feeling happy, and now even that has been corrupted by his touch. In the end, he is alienated further by his refusal to accept that he can be loved for him, and not for how he makes people feel. When unity wrote him the breakup letter, it made him revisit that dark side of his soul that he runs from on a daily basis. He's further from happiness than he's ever felt. THIS - is why Rick is depressed, and he knows its nobody's fault but his own.

There's a Rick and Morty game out on android now, called Pocket Mortys, if anyone's into that sort of thing. It's basically a pokemon clone, where you have to catch and train all the mortys. Nothing groundbreaking, but I'm having fun with it so far.

I saw the reddit thread, just assumed it was a joke and didn't watch it until now.

It was pretty good imo.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

I love how they resolved one issue while simultaneously bringing about something even bigger. It's like they are continually building the overarching plot but with deep questions rather than stupid side plots.

This episode had way too much fan service in my opinion, chronenberg planet, rick government, etc.

We get it, we've seen this all before. The good thing about the first two seasons of Rick and Morty is that the episodes were more or less stand alone, there were easter eggs hinting at an overarching plot (Which is how I think the Rick and Morty story should be), but this specfic episode had too much fan service and callbacks, instead of small hints and easter eggs.

I think it had to be that way because it was continuing a story. I don't think continuing a story like that is "fan service". Granted, the after credits scene might be too excessive.

There was plenty of new stuff as well.

I think it was used to great effect to show the sheer scale of effect that Rick's actions have. the dude brought down one galactic government and one inter-dimensional government in a single episode in service of what, becoming the patriarch of his family's household and universe. And the fake-back story and szechuan McNugget rant at the end really make you wonder about this fuckin' lunatic.

I don't know I'm not that impressed, I rather have Rick and Morty wacky one off standalone adventures, with the "big stuff" being left in the background dropping hints about just how fucked up Rick is.

I don't even think the entire thing was well executed, I don't mean to be debby downer, but honestly the execution was disappointing, especially for a 2 year wait

But it was a 2 year wait for that cliffhanger at the end of Season 2. It couldn't be a wacky one off standalone adventure.

I think we'll see it settle down after this episode, but I think it's completely fair for season finales and season premieres to be a different style compared to the rest of the show.

Well considering where season 2 left us how should they have done a "wacky one off standalone adventure" in the first episode? While i think you have a point in general, in this specific case it simply makes no sense

What about the execution was disappointing?

That's a bad argument. That's like him saying "you would have liked it no matter what"
Maybe there are good reasons and i am open to the idea that i simply didn't see it.

Also, some of the best moments in the series are "fan service callbacks". That monologue/scene where Morty points out to Summer where the bodies of that universe's Rick and Morty was buried was so morbid, insightful, and heartfelt. Probably my favorite speech in the series.

I think all that stuff simply builds the world and makes it feel coherent. I really like that. But i also agree that in general i wanna see new, crazy, interesting plotlines.
It just wouldn't have worked any other way for the season 3 premier imo and the episode itself was quite well done i think.
You had to resolve that crazy cliffhanger somehow.

I didn't care too much for that scene but my favorite was at the end when he starts babbling like he did at the end of S1 Ep1. It was emotionally comforting because it felt like even after a long break the show is still there and still has big plans for the future. Like a reassuring, optimistic wink.

I didn't care for the former scene as much because I don't tend to root for Morty. When everyone was ganging up on him and calling him an idiot in the standoff I joined them and was thinking, "yeah, fuck you morty, messing things up!!!". But he's normal, sane, and showed his humanity when he's talking to Summer. Shouldn't I like him more and hate Rick for being arrogant, petty, vindictive, etc.?

I also thought the fan service and callbacks were too heavy for this episode, but it was still really fun nonetheless. The show set the bar so high and was so creative that any dip in writing or reuse of old plot seems jarring, but I still liked the episode and still can't wait for the new season.

Now if you would excuse me, I gotta find some Szechuan sauce for McNuggets.

I mean Rick and Morty has had these continuity points since season 1, I dunno why calling back on them is fan service, was a fair portion of Season 2 and Season 1 fan service too because it contained the Galactic Federation?

I mean I get not wanting continuity, but its like two episodes of continuity in a row, a last episode and a first episode, and the creators have stated they intend to keep it mostly episodic in nature. :d

I admit I'm not wrapping my head around why anyone would have much of a general problem with S3E01 (at least in the context of Rick and Morty as a series)

EDIT: Also Im sad I never got to try szechuan McNugget sauce. What are the odds McDonalds does a promotion with Rick and Morty to bring it back? >_>

I'm pretty sure it's not hard to make your own. I made spicy gyoza sauce before, and it wouldn't be hard to add more sugar to make it a McNugget sauce.

Episode 1 Jerry says he'll see the kids every other weekend. That just may happen (he wasn't in Ep2).

I do hope we get some more standalone episodes (with less divorce storyline) as the season goes on.

The fight with Jaguar was better.

In the surveillance room:
"He's just a pickle!"
"He's a monster!"
"He's not the only one..."

*walks over to jaguar's cell*
"You can stay dead to the world and die in this room or you can kill a pickle for me to earn your freedom"

That was satire and allegory at the highest level, while still being hilarious. That might be the most well-written 22 minutes of television. I can't actually describe how fucking good that was.

It was like a season of The Wire wrapped-up in 22 minutes of absurd sci-fi comedy.

Episodes 2-5 were not as good as epsiodes from season 1 & 2 imo, with epsiode 2 being especially awful, but the 6th and 7th epsiode were some of the best in the whole series. I think this season has a differenty overall feeling to it than 1 and 2, which is why some people may not like it

Episodes like this are why I love this show, it's this roller coaster ride of madness and complete chaos, just when you start to go "shit this is really funny", the episode gets REAL dark and honest about what all that madness was really about. Now I'm really curious about those mermaids lol.

There is a theory, that we don't follow Rick C137 every episode. According to this theory, we don't follow Rick C137 in episodes "Mortynight Run" and "Total Rickall" (Mr.Poopybutthole is in it). However it seems we do follow Rick C137 in "Morty's Mind Blowers", because of the reference to "Rick Potion #9". On the other hand, we see Mr. Poopybutthole proposing to Morty in one of the flashbacks.

It's clear there is some discrepancy. Either the theory is wrong or the writers fucked up the continuity. Since the latest is almost impossible, we have to assume the theory is wrong. That's a pity, I really liked it.
Insert wise words here

How can you not like episode 3, one of the greatest episodes in the entire series!

Can't wait for the The Rickchurian Mortydate

EDIT: I have to say, the Ricks Must Be Crazy (season 2 episode where Rick tries to fix his car battery which is a miniverse), is one of the greatest episodes of any show ever made. In 22 minutes that episode perfectly explained everything that's wrong with our society and how it's set up. So deep, so brilliant, so brave.... just can't praise it enough. This show gets a lifetime of unbreakable devotion from me just because of that episode alone.

This finale was a bit underwhelming. Was expecting a bigger something with + Show Spoiler +
Phoenix Person or evil morty. At least this give them a lot of material for season 4 to work with

I really liked the ending. Its possibly the best way for the family to work out.

the last episode didn't feel like a season finale quite like season's 2 final episode. That episode really screwed with but this one was ok they kind of reset the show in a couple of ways even Beth breaking the fourth wall saying they are going back was interesting.
I think it's hard to not want more Evil Morty/ Phoenix person Tammy stuff. Rick and morty isn't really a show like that.
How do you guys rate the seasons I think 1 is probably still the strongest.

S1 > S3 > S2

S3 > or = S1 > S2 is also acceptable because I kind of forget S1.

I know S2 had some legit bad episodes though and I don't think S1/S3 really had any god awful ones. S2 had bad, unfunny, uninspired and terribly written episodes. Not all of it was bad, and not all of it was unfunny, but a large enough portion of it fell flat. Despite this, it still had its moments though.

Season 2 had uninspired ones? The only one which comes to mind here would be the second one where we see tv shows.
Other than that season 2 felt extremely fresh ?

Am I the only one who really liked Season 2? It has quite a of the most memorable moments from the show for me (Chip and Blitz, Rick's ship protecting Summer, A Rickle in Time, Sleepy Gary & the other parasites).

I guess it depends how much weight you give to the more mediocre episodes vs the better ones.

Ah I’d lost track for when this was dropping, any good thus far?

Yeah, the new episode was in keeping with the high expected quality, really good one imo.

Been a while since this thread has seen some action, but Season 5 ended and

+ Show Spoiler +
Evil Morty episoooode! Big one too, like huuuuuuge one. I wonder what the implications are for Evil Morty having escaped the Central Finite Curve. Is he gone and done for good within the context of the show? I imagine so, unless if goes Rick-Genocide at some point, but I doubt we'll see or hear from Evil Morty for many years.

Also the ending credits mentioning it all as a critique of late stage capitalism is sweet, its cool to hear shows talk more about what they're going for when it comes to themes and messages and stuff.
