This thread is about the most awesome, radical, totally mathematical show on television:
Since MLP:FIM has its own thread, I figured I could create one for Adventure Time as well.
What is it?
Basically, it is a kid's show, that "has a great setting, a very unique art style, lovely characters, cool music, engaging stories, everything you'd expect from a show like this."
It's extremely weird, the humor is absolutely random and unpredictable, it has no overarching story or anything that could slow down the awesomeness.
If you see it high, you will constantly laugh, if you see it sober you will just love it.
The basic storyline:
A young guy lives in the magical kingdom of Ooo, his best friend is a magical dog that can take on any form, they have a sword and they fight bad dudes and they have awesome adventures and they have a cool video game console named BMO (Beemo) who can also talk and there's a vampire who plays the bass.
This is quite a long review, so I invite you to stay if you are interested.
Adventure Time has a great setting, a very unique art style, lovely characters, cool music, engaging stories, everything you'd expect from a show like this.
To start off, the voice acting is excellent, the actors fit the roles of the characters really well, and on top of that, you will find familiar voices you may have heard from other TV shows (such as John DiMaggio who voiced Bender from Futurama).
On to the story, Adventure Time is something that you have to get involved in to get the most enjoyment out of it. Almost every character is developed and explored to the point that we get to care about what their goals are or what they believe, however they don't explore every single back story point in detail, and that is good, by leaving a character mystery unsolved it allows for people to make up their own assumptions about what it could've been like, the most clear of cases is the Mushroom war, all we know about it is that it was a nuclear war, but we don't get to see what happened, and that's what leaves that plot with an air of mystery surrounding it, adding depth to it. If you are not willing to get a hold of the story, then my guess is that you will not experience this show in it's true glory, however it's gags are pretty funny and the action is great, there's a lot of adult humor and violence that you'd not found in a normal kids show.
The characters are great. We have Finn and Jake as our main protagonists, Finn is a human boy (supposely the only one left of the human race) and Jake is his adoptive brother, a shape-shifting dog; these 2 share a really strong bond, and that is shown in the show, they have saved each other life's countless times and they have a really big friendship. There's also the princesses, the most relevant one being Princess Bubblegum, a woman who's hair is made of bubblegum (duh), she loves science, math and Finn has a crush on her, she is ruler of the Candy Kingdom and her best friend is Lumpy Space Princess, who lives in Lumpy Space, she acts like a bratty teenager on the outside even though she has good intentions, she is a really funny character and she provides most of the comic relief. You also got Marceline, a vampire queen who befriends Jake and Finn in one episode, at first she is not happy with them, but as it goes on they become friends.
The art style is simplistic, but unique, and it works within the twisted nature of the show, I don't what what else I can say about it really, it's not for everyone, but for the show itself, I think it has the most appropriate art style it could have.
There's a few things I don't like though, for example I don't enjoy very much episodes not centered around our main characters (not counting Fionna and Cake since those are just gender-swaps), and I don't like the character of Tree Trunks very much, not that she is bad, but the episodes centered around her tend to be a bit boring.
But overall, I really have nothing to complain about, this show is great, it has saved Cartoon Network for me, and it deserves a 10/10, it's not for everyone but if it is for you, I'm sure you will love it.
Anyways not sure if adventure time can hold much of a thread it's not ultra story heavy, like say venture bros so what would you discuss or would it just be updates.
Not even close TiTanlum_! Adventure time is THE best animation series ever made by americans(at least from the ones I watched - recently I fell in the trap of seeing the old toons I thought were good for old times sake, Johny Bravo, Dexter and all that jazz, it's funny how it cant even compare to adventure time, the classics from my childhood havent aged well..). It has an amazing storyline that slowly takes more and more importance while having the episodic nature of american animation series, character personalities keep changing and evolving in a coherent way with what is happening and there is a lot of attention to detail and it is not so much for kids as MLP:FIM, (it's even for 10 years plus or 12 dont remember).
Adventure Time is one of the best shows I have ever seen. It is so rich and unpredictable and it manages to pull off the almost impossible task of teaching life lessons without even trying to do so in a totally non preachy manner
I never fail to be entertained by this show. The things that manage to get on tv is amazing, this is not much of a kids show. IF you haven't watched this show yet theres only one way to put it:
I'm incredibly baffled that it took someone until now to make a thread on Adventure Time. (granted I havent really checked, but this is the first time I've seen it high up on general forums)
Definitely one of the better cartoons on television today (and I'm reeeeeeeealy finding it hard to watch some of the other cartoons nowadays). I remember when I started watching some of it just for shits and giggles, but as you keep watching it you start to notice a lot of subtle mature themes (I dont say "adult", cuz that's really not the right word) like love, death, etc make it's way into the show presented in a childlike fashion that make you sort of hope that kids will be able to understand the messages beyond the cartoon.
It's a good show, might just take some getting used to + the right episodes for some skeptics.

Actually the fact that MLP FIM has 20k posts or whatever and this didn't have its own thread until 10 minutes ago is one of the biggest injustices in the world.

PS: LOT OF FART JOKES
Ventures bros is a much better animation series, just because it's one of the few cartoons that hold an over arching plot. Shit's gonna be back in 2013 after 2 years of drought.
It really is one of the greatest animated shows ever produced in the states. At least recently. Avatar was very good, but this show is a different breed as it is mostly episodic. It's comedy is quick and usually subtle with an ounce of slapstick mixed in there,
And yeah Lady Rainicorn's voice is so hot. It's actually voiced by one of the animators who also voices Beemo.
The creepiest thing about this show is its basic premise. Finn is literally the last human left after some huge war. With all the people gone from the planet, magic returns. It is such a dark show at its core, and especially these last few episodes (The Lich, Finn the Human and Jake the Dog).
Best thing my GF has ever said "lets watch," ever.
Adventure time is my all time favorite cartoon, the only television show I still keep up with :D. The quality of the show is soo good! There is also a hidden snail in every episode that can be entertaining and sometimes difficult to find haha
I don't have a TV so i don't really keep up with any channel anymore but the first time me and my friends watched this i thought the CN logo was a joke... than I was told that it's actually a kids cartoon there. Mind you, I haven't watched "up to date" cartoons since i was very young, but this is just a whole other level of multiple purposed media. This doesn't even seem like a kids cartoon anymore it's straight out pandering to stoners.
I think kids shows like these are held onto by the older generation. They reason with themselves that the shows is more adult/ mature then it really is.
Think about 3-5 years ago when people were saying the exact same things about sponge bob.
Adventure Time is one of the few tv shows I actually watch on a regular basis. I love the kind of dark undertone to the really happy looking world. Also Marceline is an amazing character.
Ooo is what remains of the modern world after WW3, approximately 1000 years before the events of the show. If you watch the background closely, you can still see ruins, rusting cars, and other debris.
I'm pretty sure the main people who watch this show are stoners that laugh at the random, that and kids . I don't care for the show, but I'm past its age group. It's not actually a bad show considering I romanticize my childhood shows. All in all I wouldn't hate my children watching it (if I had any lol), but I don't consider this show mathematical at all.

I'm not a stoner or a kid and this show is totally math. I guess alot of people watch it for the same reason a lot of people watch MLP, it's actually a good show with interesting stories.
This went well below the radar... I need to get my hands on full seasons of this. Don't think I can share watching time with the kids (oldest 6 year old), gotta stick with mlp for them...
I've watched a few episodes, and I don't see the appeal. Personally, one of the reasons I enjoy MLP so much is the art style and the innocent humor. But to me, Adventure Time is just too creepy and weird for my tastes. :\

Beyond the quirkiness of the humor in AT, I love how dark the show is. I Don't understand MLP so we are even on cartoon taste.

I love Adventure Time, I think a while back I saw a list of successful people under 30 in a magazine and along with Day[9] it had the creator of this show.
This was the first thing I saw/heard about Adventure Time, and I've been hooked ever since.
As one of my friends describe it as "Adventure Time is a kids show on acid". I like it. It combines the aspects of adult/surreal humor without dumbing it down, but makes it easy to digest without being force-fed or diluting it.

I was going to mention Superjail, but that doesn't fall under the kids show category.
This show is so amazing with how much humor and stuff they put in it that only adults understand. It's like MLP except 100% less feminine and 100% more random and funny.
Also for those that haven't watched the show or don't understand some stuff here it is. Major spoilers about story and characters.
They live on essentially Earth (it's hinted at a huge chunk of the planet is missing, like 1/4 of the planet), they call it Ooo (sounds like Moo without the M). It's about a buncha random short stories, usually 2 each episode with recurring characters etc about some about certain themes. There is an over arching story that Finn & Jake follow (2 main characters, Finn is the last human alive) that a couple stories and episodes revolve around and follow. Think of the random episodes as filler if you were watching anime, except the filler has some meaning and helps you understand things.
Anyway it takes place way in the future where magic and aliens and random creatures and talking foods inhabit. The bad guy, the Lich, destroyed the world in some kind of World War with we assume were atomic bombs. No humans survived and nothing about the past is left, no history or technology or anything is left. All of this is hinted at and revealed slowly but most kids don't actually realize and understand all this.
The best story is actually about the Ice King, goofy bad guy who kidnaps princesses and fails horribly. His mind is corrupted and tainted by the crown he wears (Lich King from WoW or Golum from LotR almost identical) and his life is a super depressing and sad story. He had a wife/gf before the crown and war happened but lost it all and slowly went insane before losing everything he knew about himself (doesn't even know his own name or anything about who he was anymore in the show) and now lives in a ice castle by himself. We were shown letters and some video recordings of him losing his mind and he knew what was happening to himself but he couldn't stop it, so he distanced himself from everyone he loved so he wouldn't snap and hurt them. It's amazing they put something so deep in a show dedicated to kids who won't realize all this till they rewatch when they are older.
Did I mention Marceline, a vampire who loves to play bass and sing depressing songs, is a lesbian?
edit: forgot about spoiling people completely, quick edit should fix it for those who want to understand why this show is amazing.
I could go on forever saying how awesome this show is but you just need to watch and see for yourself.

Exactly the kind of stuff kids arn't gonna understand how truly sad the story behind the Ice King is.
A few weeks ago I searched TL to see if there were any Adventure Time threads, but sadly there wasn't D: it's about time one got created XD so thanks for that

Shit, thanks for sharing that. I knew Adventure Time had stuff like that but never that sad .
OP is great for sharing Adventure Time with TL. I got hooked on it by the cuteness and humor, its darker and deeper side speaks to me as well. The show is pure genius.
This is the best kids show since Invader Zim. All of the characters are very likable and the obscure fantasy theme is perfectly done. Not to mention incredible art and animation.
Marceline is described as a wild rocker girl. Not all her songs in the show are emo or depressing. She just dresses punk style sometimes and you mistake that for her being a lesbian emo? No, Marceline is a much better character than that.

And its hinted at that she liked Bubblegum princess and that they were more than friends at one point and were very personal with each other till something happened. Not to mention she acts very weird around Princess Bubblegum going super emotional on both ends of the spectrum.
I'll meet you halfway and say she's the first bi kids cartoon character.

That was definately my favorite episode, I watched it with some friends and we all shed a few tears.

Sure, Finn called her a dyke in 1 episode, but in that episode he didn't really know her yet.
I tend to think of marceline as a wild rocker girl, who is a bisexual with a crush on the BP. I mean she blushed when BP told her she wears her T-shirt too bed. Pretty heavy emotion for "just friends".

I'm curious, have you read anything of his? I'd suspect it's rather tedious to read any of his books in English translation, much like reading Shakespeare in German translation:
woo yeah!! i always was mystified by finn with his animal ears. but ahh after reading this thread i went and watched some episodes and.... holy shit. i can't believe what i've been missing T_T;; this is amazing!!!
my favourite characters have to me marceline and lumpy space princess. combine them together for... lumpy space vampire!!
edit: and not for the sake of starting up some sort of flame war, but I never got why bronies were so much more prevalent than fans of AT. I still remember remember showing the one major brony i know this show and him just totally shrugging it off.

Maybe you should say that in the post then. I didn't know wtf I was still looking at and still really don't after you said that, lol.
This show owns. The writers have obviously gone to great lengths to develop a deep and mysterious setting and multifaceted characters. There are so many jokes and references that kids won't get which makes you wonder who their real target audience is.
Lol I've seen a bunch of episodes but I never knew it was originally supposed to be a kids show. I would see this show being scary for kids or else it goes all over their head.
I really enjoy watching this series, and thanks to this thread, I now know it's much deeper than I used to think. But I have a problem.
I haven't seen mentioned in any post of this thread the show known as "The Amazing World of Gumball", and I prefer this series over Adventure Time. But I haven't seen anyone prefer TAWOG over any other series, and I haven't seen any positive review about it. That makes me feel really really bad, it's like I shouldn't even like or watch TAWOG. I don't know why it is, and I'm starting to feel sad because of this sensation I'm having. I'll thank it if anyone knows why is this happening.
he has to be baked hahaha very impressed. Taking absurd humour (don't know if it's the right term) to a whole new level hahaha, especially on a kids show
I suppose that their target audience are both kids and their parents, so that they can both watch and love it together. Really smart move but incredibly hard to pull off.
Thought I would like this show based on the videos in the first few posts, but after the first 8 episodes I am a bit disappointed. Not as much adult humor as I was expecting, and there's lots of cringeworthy butt/fart jokes as well as corny dialogue. Also no real storyline at the moment. Can someone tell me if it gets better, and if so, when?

If you're on season 1, then yeah the show is still lightly treading a lot of these more mature waters. You can easily skip to the second or third season and not miss too much if you'd like.
Love this show :D I really like the humor of the show, and storyline as well. Some other that were posted when i went through the thread, my contributions of my favorite scenes

So the person that writes the comics for Adventure Time (not the TV series though), has a kickstarter project. It is a rewriting of Hamlet in modern language and done in a choose your own adventure format, which artwork from basically every webcomic artist.

the pony.mov series is sort of a satire of those weird ass cartoons imo...
I thought this show was so silly and totally unwatchable. That was until my girlfriend played the clip of Finn singing the "Buff Baby" song. Now I can't get that song out of my head and I laugh at the jokes and enjoy myself. It's weird.

Lol this so much. I watched it for the first time with my nephew (he's 5) and wow i found it so awesome, my sister thought i was a freak for quitting my fallout playthrough and watching 3+ hours with my nephew rofl.
The first episode i saw was that one where theres a vampire chick and her dad goes on a rampage eating all their souls, while the main dude has a mysterious pocket on his shirt and jake (the dog) was gone. At the end he gets asked what the pockets about, to which his casual reply is "oh, its jake" <open> "Hi jake> - Jake turns around and farts a goodun, end of episode. Fucking 100% random, me and my brother in law laughed for a good 10 minutes.
Im so glad theres finally a decent kids show around, there is so much shite that my nephews watch nowadays, the old programs are so much better. Things like, Cow and chicken, courage the cowardly dog (lolol dat program.) fat mendoza etc. Even action cartoons took a nosedive (going from the likes of dragonballz, yugioh, beyblades to..well, ben 10.)
adventure time is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. I seriously think it might be my favorite cartoon ever... like seriously. Ever.
Oh I didn't notice this thread popped up. (and glad it did) There was a really old one (namely for the pilot I think), but this one looks new. Like others, I'm kinda surprised it took a while to get a thread started, and/or am happy that one has.
While it has the APPEARANCE of a kids show, [at least] I wouldn't call it a kids show, even if it's target might have been kids (is there specific info on this? Maybe the airtime neighbors?).
MLP not only has the appearance of a kids show, but was certainly targeted as a kids show.
Anyway, I really love a lot of the comedy/story in this show, it's pretty great!

There is some guy name Potent potables who uploads adventure time around 15 minutes after a episode is released. He also does regular show which I also heavily recommend and Gumball which is a harder show to get into. Here is his site btw.

Was pretty good, advanced the story along (got to see Jake crying eyes alot lol) and everything basically went back to normal at the end since they grow up so fast.
What got me more interested is that the mom was finally shown for the first time and shes also a dog. I was thinking maybe the mom was human or something since the dad is a dog and he's also the dad of Finn (I know hes most likely adopted etc).
The puppies voices sound super familiar but I can't think of who the voice actor also probably voiced.
The puppies will probably help in future episodes and have stories involving them so all is good.

Did team liquid like the newest episode? I was quite surprised it was good since the writers who wrote this episode also did up a tree and dream of love since they where both extremely mediocre episodes.
^ definitely been waiting for an ep like that agreed on it being awesome and i share your surprise at your writing team remark. at least they redeemed themselves. thanks for the link
this show really being amazing. now if only they'd release two episodes a week.
lol at finn doing his battle cry during the fight. felt like some weird amalgamation of battle cry and operatic which fit with the epicness of it.
i read from penn's blog that the writing team has been facing some challenges keeping things "fresh" in the fifth season. as the show progresses it becomes more challenging to keep doing unique awesome things. i think they did a great job this episode. i don't think i've seen an episode like that one, yet it had the signature adventure time feel.
So what does Team liquid think of Mystery dungeon? I personally think it was one of the best Adventure Time episodes ever made. Perfect amount of action, comedy, and feels.

Another episode where I truly feel sad for the Ice King. All that work just so he'd have some friends and not be alone all the time Ending lines sum it up perfectly.
"Who's sadder than the Ice King? "Me for watching this"
Any one else think season five is going to be the best season so far?
I was sad I couldn't find anything secret in that brain picture from last week.
It's all just words that are associated with Lemongrab. Things he says, does, dislikes/likes, etc. The part where they erasered out is about formula for creating candy people. Various numbers, symbols, equations, etc.
A part of me really wishes for either a movie of some sort or multipart episode where they tell the story of marceline and the ice king completely and what happened in the world D:

It was a fun episode, but unfortunately for my I dont like the Flame Princess so I was upset they're officially a thing. However, I don't think it will last. I have a feeling Flame Princess will truly go evil at some point sort of like what what happened with Tera from TeenTitans.

She is confirmed for season six so I won't be surprised if she is here to stay. Honestly her turning evil suddenly will somewhat be a cop out unless it was well written why she became evil.
New episodes continue to have moments the target audience won't understand.
Mermaids beaching themselves out of lonelyness, breast feeding grossness, wierdness of crazy guy with no eyeballs, then he starts going on an acid trip.

Always a pleasure helping someone. Somewhat off topic but does anyone else agree this is going to be one of those good episodes that no one talks about?

Connected an old foe they dealt with once or twice and threw in more adult humor. Didn't advance story-line at all so I guess you could call it filler lol. It just seems every episode is either amazing/awesome or just good, rarely any bad ones if any at all.
Err the next episode just leaked. Its called "a glitch is a glitch" and it is...... disturbing to the point where you wonder if this is a children's cartoon or something very very different. I guess kids might not see it that way. This episode blew my mind in a different way to the last one.

Apparently Ice King is into S&M, Jake & Princess Bubblegum makeout with their hands frequently (Jake accused her of tasting like another man and cheating on him), and did everyone else think that email video in the beginning reminded them of something very NSFW? I didn't realize it was hair she was putting in her mouth until the very end. Also Princess Bubblegum pulling an Office Space on that computer in the Ice King's castle (smashing and stomping it into peices while hiding her profanity with random words).
I'm honestly not sure if I liked this episode or not. Didn't quite like the graphical change, was hard at parts to understand what was happening on the screen.

I think its the way that she is holding her hair while putting it in her mouth that seems... weird. I dig the whole universal code concept, that's pretty mathematical, but i think i agree with you about the animation style.
Is it a bit weird that i literally can't stop thinking about the tragedy of Simon and Marcy after last weeks episode?

Always the best episodes imo. I truly feel sad and empathetic to the Ice King, to think about how lonely he truly is.

Confirmed. Stumbled onto Adventure Time and watched out of morbid curiosity and now I can't stop watching it. Unfortunately, Netflix only has season 1.
For this who did not get the ending of the new episode Jake told Finn earlier in the episode to forgot things that were once important to him and to move on. Finn took Jake's advice perfectly.
Latest episode brings back a good story line which we need more info on, Finn & Jake's dad Joshua. Who we know almost nothing about and how he got to be such a reputable character and how he formed the demon sword in the first place.
But it got me in the mood to watch some videos on my other favorite story in the show, Ice King & Marcilene and I think I might've found something.
I think Betty (Ice King's (Simon's)) girlfriend before he went crazy is actually somehow Princess Bubblegum.
From the flashbacks we know Betty has somewhat pinker skin than anyone else, she's seen wearing a turtle neck and a lab coat and glasses (same outfits as Bubblegum). Suggesting she is a scientist to an extent. Simon refers to Betty as his "Princess" and the Ice King is obsessed with capturing Princesses. Also gives a reason as to why Ice King is more pre-occupied with Bubblegum than any other Princess.
So there's my theory. Somehow during the Great Mushroom War, Betty, after breaking up with the Ice King, somehow got mutated into some bubblegum form in order to survive and rebuild civilization and to survive. She lost part of her memory in the process and doesn't remember the Ice King. Or does she and is just keeping it secret. All we know about her past is that she is several thousand years old and she was keeping that hidden.
He requested to be banned because he said he spent too much time on TL or something.
I have to get back into this show. I watched the whole thing up to the current point this summer but kind of forgot about it as I was catching up on Futurama. It sounds like the recent episodes have been fairly interesting. The last one I saw was "Too Old" but then they had a small gap before the next episode so I kind of forgot to keep watching >.>
Also, I guess I should move this into Media & Entertainment under the new forum divisions so I'm going to go ahead and do that.
Another episode makes me think my theory about Princess Bubblegum is correct. We saw the green slime creatures again and Bubblegum knew what they were and knew they came from "another time" (before the great war).
I'll say it again Princess Bubblegum is actually the Ice King's girlfriend who left him once the crown made him crazy.

I need more adventure time, like, seriously, ive seen them ALL and im waiting for new releases now.
I got really excited when i watched last weeks (this weeks, idk) because it was "James II" - the original "James" episode is one of my favourites and i recommend it to anyone to watch, its pretty deep.
I've been a huge fan of this show since I've seen the first episode, can't believe there's so little discussion about it. First off; the animation is unique. Simple, but unique. But they are very creative with the simplicity and put the focus on the right places. They have alot of different storylines that, albeit not always coming together as smoothly, can be very complex and have alot of depth drawn from the contemporary and historical, while also blending scientific ideas with creative ones that haven't been paralleled (I-M-O) Oh have I menioned all the different philosophies and life lessons some of these episodes teach? I mean, it's as much a kid's show as it's an adult's show because it's very, very layered. I mean, this does kind of seem like a fanboy rant, but I don't think I can say one bad thing abou this show. Maybe one bad thing is hat the 6th season has been a little bit less of what I've come to expect of one of my favourite animated series, but I'm confident they'll throw in some good stuff (I mean they still got like 30 (15 if you count two 11 minute as one) episodes to go..
Maybe I can try to get some stuff going here again. Do you guys think the entire Lemongrab arc has been finished? Also, the Ice King arc seems to become more and more interesting as the show progresses. I feel like more and more he's the crutch that holds the entire story together, maybe even the main theme.
I've tried talking about the new episodes as they came out but I forgot and sometimes I felt like I was talking to myself lol.
Last episode raised more questions than it answered. Jake has a brother? And Jake is possibly a clone/baby thing from a "creature of the night" bad creature that can apparently warp time & space. Who knows what he is now... And what happened to the mother, she obviously died prematurely, or abandoned him.
Yeah last episode was quite weird indeed, looks like Jake's mother has no connection at all other than a nurturing one. Well, I do think that's how they explain his shapeshifting powers. Didn't know Treetrunks was that old, but it seems like everyone is super old in the world except for Finn & Jake (and maybe like Shelby and all the critters haha)
Well since there have been flashbacks of Jake's mom raising him with utmost care I really don't know what to expect. Maybe she got snatched by one of those zombie dudes or she just couldn't handle Joshua's monster fighting passion when she just wanted to raise her children. Maybe she took off with the son whom hath no powers. I guess they'll reveal it in time.
Also, I really like your theory on Betty being Bubblegum. Since if it were true it also poses a whole new set of problems since past Betty is in the Land Of Ooo. Also, I'm really sad Prismo and everything around that are gone, it was really cool seeing Finn & Jake transcending from regular world into a multiverse. Chillin with Cosmic Owl in a bubblebath oh man.
Season 6 has been my favourite so far. The mythology just gets deeper and deeper and this show has more to say about growing up and life in general than any other show on TV. It has the same balance The X-Files had of standalone episodes, mythology episodes, and random episodes with a hint of mythology in them.
I always wondered if Ice King's demented love/hate relationship with the princesses has something to do with his past and the rise of princess bubblegum.
New episodes have FINALLY come out. Loved the revival of Prismo, I really like his voice for some reason or another. Also, doesn't it feel like this season has been very existential for some reason?
It was a Grabyles episode, the weird guy giving us short stories and we are supposed to guess the random theme. This one was quite different though.Apparently he's in a spaceship, he made some people angry and they almost blew up his ship so he had to evacuate. He landed on Ooo and is trying to find a way off the planet and back to his ship. Here's where it gets weird.
This Ooo is VASTLY in the future. Treehouse is gone with no signs of anyone or anything. Marceline's house seems exactly the same and someone is still living inside it, but we don't know who. Logic says she's still there, she is immortal afterall. Princess bubblegum has gone full crazymode and built a moving city inside a giant gumball machine guard and is living inside her castle presumably. But all the residents are in some kind of hypersleep inside human size prize balls. The Ice King's mountain has almost tipped over and he's become a gigantic flying monster that looks like a giant mustache that attacks anyone who gets near.
All the stories Cuber has been telling us are all memories from the past and Finn/Jake/B-mo are no where to be found in this future.
So Betty is still alive and traveling the world studying all the mages and is dedicating her life to finding a way to turn the Ice King back to normal. Glad she still cares about him. Magic Man is also from Mars apparently and his brother was Gob.
Also we learned the origin of Gunther and where he came from.
Apparently he's an immortal planet destroying monster who tried harnessing the power of a cosmic comet. Gob defeated him and he was thrown to earth and compressed into a penguin where he got amnesia and lost all his powers... Amazing they had this all planned all along, ever since Marceline's dad said he was the most evil being he's ever come across. Thought that was weird.

Betty looks like she might turn into a crazy bad guy.
That week of episodes was absolutely awesome. They somehow manage to keep bringing more story elements without overcomplicating things or making it stupid. + Show Spoiler +
The scene at the end of the final episode was incredible with the catalyst comet talking to Finn. Massively symbolic, buddhism style stuff going on there where Finn has to choose whether or not to reject the universe and ascend to a higher plane :O
New season is out. And it has an 8 episode epic about alot of the backstory regarding the humans. Definitely check it out, it's pretty great. This show just got a whole lot more meaning with this actually.
That was a lot to take in. Lots of revelations, I like Finn's dad more and I'm glad his mom is super cool and has an awesome British accent for some reason lol.
Yeah his dad got some redemption from that series at the very least. I really enjoy the juxtaposition of shielded, safe, technological world and raw chaotic magical world, and that Finn likes to reside in the second, because of familiarity, but also because he's needed there. He's basically his mom, but in a less controlled environment. I think what they're trying to show with these episodes (or maybe the show in general) is that it's easy to lose control of the situation and that you just have to roll with the punches sometimes, no matter how scary that seems.
I've just caught up with these and once again they've done a great job. It felt like familiar AT but with a slightly more confrontational message about humans and what we do.
