Being shallow doesn't make you a bad person. Does make you a bad movie critic. If people on Reddit, who don't know what autism is, think Rey is autistic, you did something wrong with your 'strong female lead Mary Sue': https://www.reddit.com/r/TumblrInAction/comments/3zwd8a/rey_is_autistic/

But that would be reductive and a poor way to talk about the first summer block buster ever. Which is why critics rarely do it, even though it is all true. Edit: If reddit says it, it must be true. After all, reddit is the “front page of the internet”. Self titled of course.

I think it would behoove the ignorant people to become informed.

None of this makes the movie bad. ANH is a great movie. But it is where it came from and what inspired Lucas.

Then she meets Finn and through Finn Han, Chewbacca, etc and she turns out to be a prodigy and defeats the Sith's lord's apprentice. That's the story. The starting point, and Rey's social enviroment is the most important factor that determines who she is when we first meet up with her. If people think she starts out autistic or anti-social, probably because they cut out scenes to make this movie more of a pile of garbage falling down a stairs/ADHD action fest, you made a mistake because the goal is to have a strong female lead small girls can relate too because Disney. Don't know why I have to explain the same thing over and over.

This time we even got a "hey reddit says it, it has to be true", that's a new one for sure. The truth is that the first scenes with rey do a fantastic job showing us her character. It was the definition of "show don't tell" pretty much. On January 12 2016 03:04 trulojucreathrma.com wrote: She grew up from like 8 yo adult without social interactions except for turning in gear stuff she found for food rations. That's what they showed. So that's the core of her existence. If it wasn't, they would have shown something else. What? No, that's the daily routine of her as an adult, what happened in her child years isn't shown (probably for a reason as well) At one point she obviously started with it, but most likely not when she was left at Jakku for the first time (she was 5 at this point)

There is zero indication she lived there and didn’t socially interact with anyone. That's just you filling in the blanks. Obviously she was already trained, probably by Luke. But that's not in the story. I can't rate someone else's story based on what I make up. This movie has to be rated stand-alone. I do agree that the scenes showing how she works and survives are well done. It wouldn't be a problem if she wasn't the protagonist and it wouldn't be a problem if she wasn't a prodigy at everything she does and it wouldn't be a problem if we could assume she had a normal average life with parents, friends and schools. We know she never had any of that. Yes, you can say the other movies will explain that. (often they don't) But that doesn't work right now.

Lets not even get into the ending of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Or Inception.

There was absolutely none, the first half of the movie is a huge high-speed pursuit, the other half is another death-star attack ... come on ! Secondly the characters.. damn I didn't like a single one of the main characters, they lacked charisma, Kylo should definitely keep his mask, he's much cooler with. The only ones I liked were Pea (the pilot) and of course Han solo and they managed to kill him off, wtf ! Thirdly I'm pretty sure that has been discussed already but the ass-pulled power up of Rey was laughable. The girl didn't even know the Force existed (she thought it was a legend) and suddenly she can manipulate people, pull object and fight with a lightsaber ?? Also I thought lightsaber were weapons only jedis could use, how come Finn can fight with one ? Besides they managed to beat Kylo (someone who actually had training) with another ass pulled power-up when she closed her eyes and suddenly became stronger ? Wow ! Apparently even Luke couldn't stop Kylo (although it wasn't explicitly said I guess if someone kills all your apprentices you'd at least try to stop him with more than words) and 2 newbies (not even padawans) managed to beat him ? And the final scene was cheesy as fuck, what's Luke doing staring at the ocean when there is a powerful new organization threatening the whole galaxy ? Sums up pretty much all my feelings. This is what I and a few people argued above. The only two things going fro the movie are that it is a Star Wars movie and that movie makers played up the nostalgia. All the new characters are incredibly flat and one-dimensional. Also, I am tired of hearing the argument: "Let's wait till the next Episode come put before passing a judgement on the plot or character development". I do not care what the next movie will bring since whatever plot will be advanced in the next movie it is inconsequential for this movie; it will not improve the plot, or the character development, or the pacing of TFA. I will judge the next Episode by its won merit, not by the merit of TFA or other movies. The fact that I need to wait to a next movie to (possibly) understand basic things only means that TFA failed in the story-telling dimension.

And for the record, Inception really is a terrible film. :D

My expectations were met on the first count, but I wasn't expecting a soft reboot for the story. From middling expectations I was still disappointed.
