Most people think (with good reason, I think) that Vaatu is going to grow inside Raava (read: inside the Avatar) until the next Harmonic Convergence. However, if the Avatar is killed during the Avatar State, the cycle is broken and the Avatar ceases to exist. Unalaq was basically killed in the Avatar State, so what does it mean?
I think it's likely they will just retcon that if they want to tell the story of Vaatu again, but it's just an interesting fact to consider.
I was under the impression that giant Vatunalock was just the natural progression for whomever won harmonic convergence. He always grew bigger with Ra'ava growing smaller, and after he was gone she was a giant. It seems to me that there will be a new avatar now perpetually like the light avatar, just born dark. Am I missing something?

oh O_O i hope the next book isnt going to be about, like the dark avatar being reborn, and then its cycle will always continue as well and korra will have to find him/her, and it'll end with korra absorbing the dark avatar ;_; ( anyone know what the next book is called?)

I think that would probably be a boringish story since it's just an easy way to write in a new enemy, but that was just my impression. The only other thing I would wonder is since Korra defeated him by spirit bending him to a light spirit is that darkness is just gone forever, but that seems to not line up well with the Buddhist/Eastern concepts that the show is based on. I'm not sure. Would like to know what the next book is titled though as well. In any case I find the idea of a progression from age to age really charming and epic, and I have high hopes for it
(P.S. Looking all the more forward to it since several of the people that kept shitting on every episode have said they are done with the show. )
I definitely love the TLA references, like zhao just muttering away lol XD and there were a few others but i cant remember them atm, i hope they continue these cause they're really nice
To be honest, I have a feeling Legend of Korra will end the Avatar series, and that by the end of the show, there will be no more Avatar. It's already been established that Korra lost her connection to her previous lives, and when she told Tenzin that, they both agreed it meant the cycle was over. No one said anything afterwards to say it had been restored.
I think Korra is going to be the last Avatar, and after her there will be no more of it. Her letting the portals open is already the first step down from the role of the Avatar : being the bridge between the two worlds. Her only self-given mission now is to keep the peace. She openly said "humans and spirits will have to learn to live together, I will no longer fill that role". Over time, she will do the same with peace.
Some speculation based on Grey DeLisle interviews, Azula's voice actor, make me believe she will voice a younger version of Lin which would make sense given the tease by the writers. In one interview she said she would voice a younger version of an existing LoK character and in another she said she would voice a "bad girl" bender. All that points to Lin. She also voiced the mushroom and the spider-scorpion in book 2.

i would really hate it, if it went down that road :/ (sure it'll be kinda fullfilling wan's goal of world peace) but i cant imagine that korra will just beat another enemy, make spirits and humans become friends and everything will be alright... What theres stopping another amon, or naturally darker spirits like ko, and the spider from casuing havoc if theres no avatar. Plus ;_; would just feel wrong. (also the temple where the statues end...cant it just be well...u know its eventually going to run out of room anyway its no an infintely large room.) Also the biggest thing annoying me (for me personally) is korras avatar state (ooh that reminds of the big cosmic korra like anng had) but anyway like why is her avatar state soooo bad, each power get progressively stronger right? because u add another avatars power to it, and aang defeated the firelord on comet day, is unalaq more powerful then firelord ozai on comet day O_O thats crazy :O
edi: XD just some fanfiction thought but imagine if they animated like a really hardcore version, where the bending is extremely violent, something like ice spears piercing through flesh, wind blades that actually cut you, fire that really burns. (the only one ive seen thats kinda like it is lighting which its pretty much a kill)

Yeah, that wasn't me, and unless I hear book three is really good I'm out. I talked up about half the episodes because about half of them were decent and a few were incredible. Unfortunately a 50% track record is really not enough.

i wonder how a show with stories about normal benders with no avatar around would fare
A lot of fanservice with Iroh and the Zhao cameo, but overall I'm kind of underwhelmed by LOK. I know they said all the stuff about being yourself, and LOK really needs to take that advice-- it trying way too hard to be like the original TLA. A lot of flashy stuff, some cool characters and ideas, but still too rushed. It took 3 seasons for Aang to save the world, Korra's done it twice in 2/3 the time and it doesn't feel 1/10 as cool.
Also, what's with this Attack on Titan meets Princess Monoroke stuff...
Highlights: Wan was a boss, Korra became somewhat less of a whiny teenager, Iroh

Except when Korra and Tenzin were saying the cycle was over was before Korra rejoined with Raava. Without her, of course the cycle is over. But now, even though Korra doesn't have memories from previous avatars, it's like she's the new Wan. The cycle will restart with her as the first avatar in the cycle. I think now, the big difference with the portals open is that the Avatar will be needed to mediate between the spirits and humans, or else it will turn back into fighting between the two like before Wan became the avatar.

Season 1 it wasn't really saving the world or anything. just some small problems in a city. Season 2 was much more important though. at one side I like the self contained stories of the books but I also really liked the long epic journey Aang had.

so yea they beat vaatu but he'll be back for the next convergence.
Yeah but seeing how fast Rapha was back shouldn't Vatu be back already as well?
Vaatua/Unalaq just beat Raava into nothing. If you noticed, when she "died," she dispersed into little golden particles. When they were about to corrupt/destroy Korra's soul, she was purple, which seems to mean to me that she would have dispersed into purple particles.
When Korra "purified" Unalaq/Vaatu, he dispersed in the same way of all of the other spirits. I think that's a more complete way of "winning" or it's supposed to be intended that way.
I really liked episodes 10-13 but 14 was kind of a let down. They kept coming so close to the epic fights of TLA, but it always devolved into bigger fireballs/water/rocks. No more tidal waves and fire jets and the like
Mako/Korra was silly. Them breaking up seemed so fucking random. I don't really care about teenage drama but I just thought it was really stupid, and I don't really see how it "wouldn't work."

Agreed. I felt that Nick had a prime opportunity to go "Hey kids, relationships aren't perfect but if you're willing to put your ego aside and discuss things you can make it work." Instead I felt they went "Uh...how do we keep this working for 2 more seasons and make it Nick friendly? Time to cut it."
Really makes me sad. None of the episodes so far have come even close to those two videos in eliciting any emotion from me, and those are just two random clips I pulled up.

ahhhh man them memories i hated katara when i watched TLA but damn when you compare her to korra shes a goddess
