Loved the legend of Korra.
Especially the art was amazing, the shadow effects etc.

I just hope Korra's uncle isnt the main villian in this arc. I dont like it, if everything is to obvious from the beginning.

Yeah, I didn't like how obvious they seemed to make her uncle as a bad guy. I do hope that ends kind of quickly. One thing that's super annoying is the relationship between Korra and Mako. No one cares and it just adds boring complications. This isn't a daytime soap or real housewives of who cares. No one is watching this for a boring teen relationship. The original avatar balanced it quite well though, where it was just slight and mounting tension for the entire series that played out in the last few episodes.

Disagree. Kids need to see an actual relationship with somewhat realistic issues instead of series long will they/won't they that just drags on into happily ever after.

They're building the tension with her Uncle too fast. It's only the second episode, and already I get the feeling that his forces are going to basically take over and enslave the Southern Water Tribe, and by opening the spirit portal, she's allowed her Uncle to garner incredible spiritual strength that he is going to use to rule the South with an Iron Fist.

What's intriguing though is how the statue changed after she opened the portal...I couldn't quite make out who the statue resembled. Though I did see the spirits surrounding it, maybe Spirit Bending is another form the Avatar has to master?

Wan, the first avatar. The statue looked the most roughly made, a result of the techniques/tools of the time and age.

Have to say I'm optimistic about this season. Given that it's going to be longer than the last one I can see them being able to add enough complexity to the plot for all you guys complaining about Korra's uncle as obvious villain. It's not like they could have made a season opening double-header without an obvious villain/conflict/foreshadowing. I'm also pleased that it appears we're also going to be following Tenzin and his crew for a bit, should add some more interest and complexity.

Just as importantly, the comedy aspect seems to be on point as well; the stuff with Bolin is top-notch, though I'm less convinced that Bumi is funny. Only concern is that Mako is even more straight-laced than usual, and I do hope we get to see more of Asami and whatever she does.

yeah koh is hyped quiet a bit having fought previous avatars, he is known though as one of the oldest spirits.

I wonder if we will get to see any of the original cast of tla? I hope so

my issue with the first two episodes is that they focused way more on establishing the conflict between the northern and southern water tribe than elaborating more on the spirits, which are clearly going to be the bigger issue. i would have preferred to get a more in-depth look at the spirits being out of balance and korra's role in dealing with that situation first, then have her uncle come into the picture with his answer. we learned more about korra's father and uncle than anybody else, which is fine, but not for the opening episodes, in my opinion.

HOWEVER, i am pretty excited to see the clash between the two brothers, which i think they are building up pretty nicely, despite it being a little preemptive. that should be a pretty epic battle!

I think the legend of Korra does a great job at what it set out to be (imo). TLA was the epic story arc with apocolyptic potential that shows us a legend in the making.

Korra is more of a "the quirky adventures of the new avatar". It's not meant to have the grand scale of the original series. The goddamn world can't be doomed to be destroyed every generation right?

Korra = just another avatar
aang = legend

Very well said, however I feel like all the bending looks severly underpowered in LoK. Do you think that too? All forms of bending (apart from maybe air) look feeble comepared to the legend of aang. Also I wish the first season was longer than it was, 14 or so episodes seemed a little short, aside from that its a nice series

Fighting styles have changed over the last 70 years. In the city, where the Korra party has lived, you can't just go all out with your bending due to collateral damage. Time when she wasn't worried about it, she's opened up the showyness of her bending(Korra v Tarlock.)

First season was super short because the show was originally booked to be just a miniseries. Because of that the pacing suffered and season 1 has a lot of the issues it does.

I'm hoping they're going to throw a curveball in relation to Korra's uncle. Something along the line of "he's right even though he's going about it in an evil way." Even though the signs of villain are there, they gave him redeemable qualities. I'd be a shame if the spirits attacking ends up being his doing all along and if he's just been purely manipulating Korra.

She didn't hold back when destroying the southern water tribe buildings during the festival while the spirit was attacking and the fireballs were kinda less epic than the most epic fight of TLA.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

I like it so far, although it's pretty reminiscent of the first season. When I watched the first season, I pegged Tarlok as the main villain and even thought he was Amon. The show sort of leads you to believe he's the antagonist, or at least close to it. I think they intend to do the same thing with Unalaq (there are already a few similarities, Tenzin/Tonraq trying to help Korra, and Korra choosing to listen to Tarlok/Unalaq instead).

The way I see it, Unalaq is going to be quickly thrown out of the picture to be replaced by a spirit as an antagonist. Perhaps Koh or Wan Shi Tong (the owl), or maybe even some sort of coalition of spirits. I am a tiny bit disappointed about a few things though. It seems we won't be seeing much of the Equalists (or rather what's left of them, if there are any) since most of the story will take place in the Southern and Northern Water Tribes, although I'm guessing it's not completely out of the picture. I do hope we see more of them, as they were an interesting plot device and it would be a little silly to have them vanish with Amon.

Overall, it's looking good so far. We explored the spirit world in ATLA, but not to great lengths, and I'm glad they chose that direction. And with a longer season (although not by much) it should be interesting.

PS : one thing that bugs me is how far the civilization of Avatar has come in less than 100 years. Granted, the Fire Nation had air balloons, cannons and pretty advanced ships, but nothing compared to jet skis, bombs, planes, super fancy shock-gloves and what have you. It's just a little awkward to have the show make such a huge leap technology-wise, but it's not that big of a deal.

Sorry?

That sounds EXACTLY like the technology transition from early 1920s to 2013. I don't see how that is anywhere close to a huge leap technology wise.

Aside from the fire nation (and even then it was because of firebending), they looked mostly midieval. They skipped from that straight to the 1930s.
