One thing that's super annoying is the relationship between Korra and Mako. No one cares and it just adds boring complications. This isn't a daytime soap or real housewives of who cares. No one is watching this for a boring teen relationship. The original avatar balanced it quite well though, where it was just slight and mounting tension for the entire series that played out in the last few episodes.

Kids need to see an actual relationship with somewhat realistic issues instead of series long will they/won't they that just drags on into happily ever after.

What's intriguing though is how the statue changed after she opened the portal...I couldn't quite make out who the statue resembled. Though I did see the spirits surrounding it, maybe Spirit Bending is another form the Avatar has to master?

The statue looked the most roughly made, a result of the techniques/tools of the time and age.

Just as importantly, the comedy aspect seems to be on point as well; the stuff with Bolin is top-notch, though I'm less convinced that Bumi is funny. Only concern is that Mako is even more straight-laced than usual, and I do hope we get to see more of Asami and whatever she does.

HOWEVER, i am pretty excited to see the clash between the two brothers, which i think they are building up pretty nicely, despite it being a little preemptive. that should be a pretty epic battle!

Korra is more of a "the quirky adventures of the new avatar". It's not meant to have the grand scale of the original series. The goddamn world can't be doomed to be destroyed every generation right? Korra = just another avatar aang = legend

All forms of bending (apart from maybe air) look feeble comepared to the legend of aang. Also I wish the first season was longer than it was, 14 or so episodes seemed a little short, aside from that its a nice series

In the city, where the Korra party has lived, you can't just go all out with your bending due to collateral damage. Time when she wasn't worried about it, she's opened up the showyness of her bending(Korra v Tarlock.) First season was super short because the show was originally booked to be just a miniseries. Because of that the pacing suffered and season 1 has a lot of the issues it does.

She didn't hold back when destroying the southern water tribe buildings during the festival while the spirit was attacking and the fireballs were kinda less epic than the most epic fight of TLA.

The way I see it, Unalaq is going to be quickly thrown out of the picture to be replaced by a spirit as an antagonist. Perhaps Koh or Wan Shi Tong (the owl), or maybe even some sort of coalition of spirits. I am a tiny bit disappointed about a few things though. It seems we won't be seeing much of the Equalists (or rather what's left of them, if there are any) since most of the story will take place in the Southern and Northern Water Tribes, although I'm guessing it's not completely out of the picture. I do hope we see more of them, as they were an interesting plot device and it would be a little silly to have them vanish with Amon. Overall, it's looking good so far. We explored the spirit world in ATLA, but not to great lengths, and I'm glad they chose that direction. And with a longer season (although not by much) it should be interesting. PS : one thing that bugs me is how far the civilization of Avatar has come in less than 100 years. Granted, the Fire Nation had air balloons, cannons and pretty advanced ships, but nothing compared to jet skis, bombs, planes, super fancy shock-gloves and what have you. It's just a little awkward to have the show make such a huge leap technology-wise, but it's not that big of a deal.

I don't see how that is anywhere close to a huge leap technology wise.
