this season is really disappointing, I don't even know if I'll continue watching.

Specifically the tongue/pecs/everything else being cut off that one guy. Really fucking excessive, and this is coming from someone who usually rolls their eyes at people bitching about blood/gore on screen.

+1 totally. It was definitely excessive, yet I'm glad they put it in there and it was fairly provocative in a "passion of the christ" kind of way.

That was just disturbing. The crazy violence in the arena is one thing, but for seeing the helpless guy tied up and having the Romans take turns mutilating, torturing, and amputating him while laughing at enjoying it was very unsettling. I think part of the reason is that in the arena its "killing for sport" but ultimately its still a matter of survival. The fact that he was so helpless and that they killed him in the most ignominious and painful/slow way made it pretty chilling.

Anyway, so far I'm saying this season is better than Gods of the Arena, but not as good as Blood and Sand.

Just watched the first 4 episodes in a row.

1st one was pretty weak but they got progressively better and I'm fucking pissed that friday is so far away.

And lol at people complaining about showing the mutilating of that one guy. Romans actually did that shit and DeKnight easily could have had them chop off his dick because Romans did that for damn sure.

This isn't basic cable, grow a pair and enjoy the sex and violence.

Yah emasculating a person condemned to death in such a way was usually like the first step taken...

When it was a slave who killed prominent Roman citizens, yes it was.

I almost feel like emasculation was called for if any slave killed any citizen.

I have nfi how you can rate the current season over Gods of the Arena... Gods of the Arena had Gannicus instead of the new Spartacus + Batiatus + a better/tighter story with lots of arena action + less bad cgi, slow mo's and blood. The new season is loose and not being able to rely on the lutus for 80% of sets really hurts the look of the show (too much blue screen).

Agreed on the gratuitous torture, we get the point, the romans are sick bastards. I doubt many of the viewership are full on sadists and want to watch 5 minutes of a helpless man being carved up.

Yea.. I miss the arena, season 2 is definitely lacking that. I really only enjoyed episode 2 so far. Really looking forward to Oenomaus, Crixus and that other guy fight in the arena.

in the next 2 episodes or so we will see the arena again with Oenomaus, Crixus vs Ganicus (fooled by Ashur) while Spartacus will be disguised as a roman soldier to save them. That's what i got from the previews. Also, interested to seeing how Oenamaus and Ganicus will interact now that they both know they were sleeping with and in love with the same woman although they were like real brothers. I hope they all live to join the rebellion but i feel something is going to go wrong...

The new spartacus is ok, but its just Andy whitfield was SOOOO freaking good as that character, i don't know if it was his voice or the lines they gave him, it just doesn't feel the same, there's something missing that just makes him such a giant bad ass, and i think that's one of the reasons this season is just kinda... meh...

Same here. I'm eager to see if they put him in as a potential ally or enemy.

Either way would be equally compelling.

Put same poll in GoT threat, combine the numbers from both threads and you have a more accurate gauge.
