Yeah the change does bother me quite a bit as I loved the way Derpy was introduced and the reasons for removing it don't really make a whole lot of sense.
However the person who made this post is 100% correct, the worst way to react would be throwing the rattle out of the pram and acting like a bunch of entitled jerks, it is possible to make objections known without resorting to insults or other chilidish behaviour
Frankly that worries me alot more than the removal of Derpy's scene and I hope the greater community can use a bit of common sense and not alienate everyone.
I always thought the extra screen time that the grey pony recieved (and the behaviour in the short clips) before that episode was big enough of a shout out. I have two thoughts on why they would remove the section and either case i understand the decision. One is about being professional and doing fanservice the other is about ridiculing a handicapped character on a childrens about good friendship values.

Absurd. Derpy is clumsy, not retarded. What part of her scene ridicules handicapped people in any way?
Since it hasn't been mentioned here yet, Fluttershy is getting episode 22, airing on March 24th. It looks like each character is getting 2-3 full episodes to themselves this season. The Derpy changes suck of course (apart from the new voice, which I wish she had in the original version - at the time, Tabitha didn't know that Derpy was a mare). Well, at least good to know Derpy easter eggs will still keep coming with derped eyes.

ridiculing a singular handicapped character, not handicapped people in general. It depends how one interpretes the word "derp". It's a slang word which can mean something else rather than just clumsy. Having cross eyes also does not help the argument that she's "is clumsy."
I think it's a bit of a stretch (sensationalism) to consider it to actually promote negative behaviour, but i understand that they may be trying to cover their bases. Doing it for this reason is not something i agree with.
It's important to note that the shout-out is something that already happened - the memory is recorded on YouTube and is not likely to go away. We can point people to it and say, "this thing took place".
Retroactively editing it in the iTunes version doesn't bother me much, even though my mind was used to the previous Derpy voice.
I'm mostly upset about people being offended by a silly pony. Some people are far more sensitive than they should be. Hasbro can't really be blamed - lots of people have some really strange standards regarding the safety of their entertainment, especially in America (no offense, but it seems that way).
I'm not sure why removing the name changes anything - is it these people thinking "Derpy" is offensive to mentally handicapped people or something?
Today I learned that somepony who looks a little different, and may be a little clumsy at times (despite always doing their best), is *unquestionably* - mentally challenged.
Instead of 'loving', 'tolerating', or more importantly, 'accepting' these ponies, and then teaching our young fillies to do the same -- we should just fix these undesirable imperfections and hope that they will bring less attention to themselves.
It's kinda sad people are so extremely sensitive they had to change derpy. I understand rerecording the voice since it was the wrong gender. But hearing RD say now careful derpy made me so happy : \ Ah well it was still super cool they made that scene.
The rumor floating around now is that Apple refused to rehost the episode unless it was changed, but unless Hasbro/Apple says something I doubt we'll know(at least until Friendship Express comes out, since that should have the aired version).

Why would Apple care?
Why does Apple want to phase out Flash when no alternative exists?
A lot of the shit Apple does doesn't make any god damn sense.

There's tons of alternatives! Like Silverli- wait... Apple would never play into Microsofts hands.
Apple is very uptight with it's stores. It takes a lot to get an App to be reviewed positively so it can be put in the App store. I assume they hold a similar strict stance on iTunes.
Personally my biggest problem with the Derpy changes is the bad precedent it set. The new voice isn't that bad (although a bit generic and lifeless IMO) and the fact that she wasn't named dosnt destroy the episode (still my second favorite episode of season 2), but the fact that Hasbro went to the trouble of taking down an episode for so long from itunes to re-edit and re-voice it (something that cost them money to do) means that they took this seriously. The fact that a few overly sensitive politically correct people can bring down such big actions from Hasbro is really scary to me.
Consciously or unconsciously, studio B will likely think twice about any future shout-outs to the community they do. Derpy may still be in the background, but likely much more subtle. Future planned appearances may have been scrapped and we may never know. Even with normal show contant unrelated to bronies, the shows creators will now worry more about if it may offend someone and bring down the wraith of the PC crowd on them like with derpy. Even if they were aware of this before, the fact that they were now actually censored makes it way more real now.
Is this going to destroy the show? No, I highly doubt it. Its still going to be a great show. But I am afraid the show may lost something special with all this. As Kreoss (show animator) said "Its not often that cartoons show fan content". This show is special beyond just the quality of the show. Derpy was a symbol for that and they went through great lengths to remove it.
Am taking this too seriously and just being a drama queen? It's certainly possible. I am just worried about content we may have just lost in the future because of all this mess. The show will still be great, just not as great as it could have been because a small minority decided to get offended over nothing and Hasbro caved in. That makes me sad
*runs off to listen to pony music to cheer myself up*
I wake up to no new episode. It makes my Saturday feel a bit empty. And I wake up to Derpy drama. (no pun intended).
Personally, I really didn't follow the whole drama that happened prior to the change, so I guess I am going to be a bit out of context. But what matters is what happened here and now. And Derpy's voice got changed by the studio.
I think Kreoss' message to the community summed up a lot of good points that I felt as well. Especially this:
On the issue on Derpy whether she'll have the same Derp face expression and stuff. As an animator of the show, rest assured, she'll be fine. The show will still go on and I hope you will continue to support the show. Though Derpy is a great character, she is not essentially the reason why the show is awesome (though she is one of the Reasons). If Derpy never existed on that fateful scene in the first episode, would MLP be a bad show? Remember MLP is a great show because for what it is. I didn't know about Derpy until someone from the Studio pointed it out. I hope you'll still enjoy the show no matter what happens.
I myself am going to take it in stride and lightheartedness. The original Derpy is forever embedded in my head (and my harddrive), and the community who was there when we first watched "The Last Roundup" will also forever remember it as such. Sure the new community members who walk in afterwards might end up watching the new Derpy, but then we can always point them to the older Derpy version. So in the end, it's not a huge deal.
In fact, I think we got ourselves a My Little Pony version of "Han Shot First."

Not really. I didn't give anything about the synopsis away, because I don't read them.

I personally still like not even knowing which character(s) an episode is going to be about until the episode starts (that I tend to stay away from EqD for a short while sometimes when I hear new ep info is out because the picture they include on the main page gives it away). Oh well.
