Seeing this kind of post makes me happy. =) It's great that you gave it a chance and, even deciding it wasn't your cup of tea, could see why so many people like a "little girl's show." I would recommend watching some more episodes, since it does typically take several episodes before you get into it. Still, if you're not willing to do that, at least you can maybe understand why we like it so much.
And since I haven't plugged it in a while, I recommend watching CR's "My Little Pony" retrospective over at TGWTG:

If you have the time, watch episodes 57 and 58. Those episodes do a great job recapping the phenomenon to both fans of the show and people who don't understand the fandom.

I wish more people were like that, willing to give something a try and more importantly using the resources we have prepared instead of blindly rushing in to ask us questions we've heard a thousand times.
At this point, whether you return to the show or not, you have already done what any person should do when faced with something they feel doubtful of, something they can't quite understand. Yeah, I'm replying partly by inspiration from Aylear having replied similarly, but, I just wanna say:
