I'm a firm believer you shouldn't watch nostalgic movies unless you're old enough to relate. It would've made no sense for me otherwise, since that's the whole point of the movie.
I mean I was 4 in 1997 but ended up liking it anyway so far. Fell off over the summer but just finished episode 11. Like it for the characters and relationships, idk if I'm missing a lot but it doesn't seem as heavily reliant on late 90s nostalgia as you seem to imply.
But damn is that "serial rapist" plot device stupid...a convenient way to get them talking again I guess but seemed really contrived and out of nowher.

The only character I don't like is the kid that doesn't like studying. I'll just chalk that up to bad acting.
If you were looking more for an answer of if it's worth watching, yes it is. Will be one my favorites when its done assuming it doesn't fuck up along the way.
Finished reply 1997- enjoyed it overall. The whole older brother w/main character plotline was dumb IMO but it picked up the last 2 episodes.
Back on the drama train (at least until school starts up again, then who knows). Any recommendations on good ongoing dramas? Watched the first 2 episodes of school 2013 and didn't really like it, thinking about starting Cheongdamdong Alice but open to recommendations. edit- ok couldn't even make it through one episode of Cheongdamdong Alice...poorly acted and although I understand that all the people are supposed to be shitty it still makes it unbearable to watch. Literally everyone other than the main character is an asshole...couldn't stand it.
Haven't watched a drama in a while so I finished 17 eps of 'I Miss You' yesterday, waiting on the rest of the eps to come out. All the actors/actresses in that drama is so amazing at acting.. holy crap. I'm really looking forward to Yeo Jin-Goo's and Kim So Hyun's acting in the future. I really liked them in TMTETS too. The drama is pretty good, really sad, a lot of crying in there. Oh, and FINALLY a god damn good kiss scene in a drama.
I knew that Harry bastard was a manipulative ass from the start! When he was young still and killed Detective Kim.. I'm just like "Oh, this bastard is crazy from the start."
Also, if anyone is interested in watching it, I wouldn't recommend reading the asianwiki page, it does have a minor spoiler on the note section
Nice Guy was pretty good, I'm a fan of Song JoongKi.

I'd have to agree, I Miss You is def the best drama out right now :D
i miss you is realllly intense. but i can say that i really liked the younger part and i did enjoy watching it a lot more than the adult part :c there is just so much /crying/ going on in the entire drama though.
and and 20 and 21 are both out! (final believe~) i know 20 is currently subbed on viki but i'm not sure how complete 21 is yet :x going to watch it tomorrow ;A;
tbh i don't get all the hype over nice guy.. i watched a few episodes and then i just kind of fell off of it :/
I just finished watching 'I Miss You' and 'Rooftop Prince' - both great dramas and I've really become a fan of YooChun T_T Pity he is going to the military
I really thought 'Rooftop Prince' was up there with MGIAG and Shining Inheritance as one of my fav kdramas ever.
Finished 'Faith' recently too - that was also really good :D
Next on the list is 'The Moon Embracing the Sun'.
Any more drama recommendations from 2012?
Looking forward to IRIS2 and Guga Medical Book in 2013
King 2 Hearts, A Gentleman's Dignity, Nice Guy, Ghost, School 2013 were all great dramas I thought. There's also Dr. Jin, didn't really like it but didn't hate it either.
I just started watching Rooftop Prince and got a laugh out of Richard Cheese - Material Girl playing while the characters drink coffee in a cafe/bookstore (Episode 3). Richard Cheese, typical Korean lounge music!?

Since it's been about 3 years since the first one aired they'll probably catch everyone up as far as the main story line goes. That being said, I really enjoyed Iris 1, so I think it would be worth it to go back and finish it.

Not a bad idea, but keep in mind that the movie is very different from the show. Some characters that died in the show didn't in the movie, the ending was different, etc.
I hope this isn't too cliched of a question, but I was wondering if you could help suggest some good dramas that I would like. I am fairly new to the genre, but I just finished and REALLY enjoyed Dream high season 1, and also enjoyed Queen Inhyun's man. I watched a few episodes of Love Rain but wasn't a huge fan. Thanks for your help, gamsahamnida!

Uh, the movie isn't different. Extra scenes just got added that weren't part of the show. The ending was also the same...
