It's becoming strangely satisfying watching people get insanely hopeful for the 5th time, only to have it all soon taken away. :D
He will probably come back though. He is such an integral part in so many clever "conspiracies".
I agree, he's probably not actually dead. But I feel like it would be such a hype moment to end episode 10 with Jon bleeding on the ground. But they may do the typical episode 9 giant shock event as usual too. I guess we'll find out when they release the episode names for the last 2 episodes.
I think it would be better if Jon being stabbed was the very last scene of S5. Make it a proper cliffhanger. They didn't do the typical episode 9 climax scheme for S4, so there is a precedent.
Yeah I think that's what's going to happen. Similar to S4, that way it will be such a powerful scene. Excited!
I wish more people had 'agnostic' approach to Jon's (or Benjen's) fate. I don't want to be convinced that he's dead or alive. Uncertainty can be fun too.
I think its pretty clear hes going to be resurrected by the fire witch and since he died his vows in the watch are lifted and he can reclaim the north with stannis. Isnt it basically implied stannis was the one who had him killed?
I'm pretty Jon was killed by Marsh and co. because he was considered to be actively breaking his vows to the Nights Watch and endangering the entire organisation via his association with stannis, the wildings and planning to march against the Boltons aka The Wardens of the North.
There are theories that he will be resurrected by mel by sacrificing Shireen as she has Kings blood via stannis but whether he would then suddenly give up on the Nights Watch is another thing. Plus these theories rely heavily on R+L=J.
John coming back has nothing to do with pandering fans. There is a shitton of hints that his story isn't over yet, and many of them don't really rely on R+L=J.
It's not like Martin couldn't just say fuck it, not bring him back and say everyone was just mislead, the hints meant nothing/something else, but people don't believe he will come back just because they want him to.

Was it? I don't recall thinking that at all. I did read the books pretty quick so I may have missed it. Just wouldn't make sense, what does he gain by having Jon die? The other members of the nights watch aren't going to join him. If somehow they would than why would stannis leave before it's carried out? There is no gain for Stannis if he was behind it.

No clue where he's getting tham from. Nowhere in the book is it implied that Stannis had Jon killed. Jon was stabbed by Bowen Marsh and the other stewards because he intended to take men of the Watch and wildings south of the Wall to kill the Boltons and retake Winterfell, all in response to the Pink Letter.
He's shown over a stone slab in front of Daenerys at the palace on the "Next Time in GoT" segment at the end of the episode... I would say that it is safe to assume that Ser Barristan died :'(
What the hell are they thinking? BTW, I read an interview here and it's implied that he had no idea he was being written off the show. He also said it was disappointing when he found out. In other words, this was a completely unnecessary move by the producers.
Glad Barristan is dead. Removing Brienne would be great too, the character is just fucking around in westeros. Add another dramatic end for her and call it a day for the season. No need to kill Jon or Stannis.
brienne is a pretty useful plot device as far as the show writers are concerned, considering how easy it is to make up reasons for her to just go places and create exposition...her role is actually far more relevant in the show anyway because she has successfully located both arya and sansa (right before fucking everything up, mostly by being a self-righteous noble blundering fool)
with that said, i agree she probably bites it this season, either defending sansa or in pursuit of stannis. they better give her a better fucking exit than barry got tho or i will be extremely displeased, if she just loses to faceless boltons or kingsmen that's fucking bullshit.
The only reason to kill Brienne this season is to put a nail in the coffin that Lady Stoneheart will ever make an appearance. If they plan on introducing Lady Stoneheart in any way they need Brienne to stay alive.
