can't even read this thread now with so many people talking about the leaked episodes... and without even spoilers tags. worst idea ever to allow ppl to talk about them :/

The non-spoilered stuff is all book related or general musings, like can peasants take down a trained warrior. The biggest show "spoiler" in the last 10 pages was "harpies go all-in".
But i guess u re here just to complain, so carry on.

There was a mention of + Show Spoiler +Sansa has become Jeyne Pool for the show last page though. On the other hand I think we were calling that based on the trailers, so meh.
On white knights- + Show Spoiler +It is a reasonable sized "if" for if Barristan died. If he wasn't an old guy then I'd say there is no way that would prove mortal. As-is, it is mostly about balancing the dubious injuries with the fact that they took the time to show gray worm saving him from a fatal blow.
He doesn't seem like the type who would go down until a few months or so after his heart stopped beating when he still has a duty to attend to, and Dany isn't anywhere near secure. Getting hamstrung and a shiv to the side of the lower back put him in shock? What kind of Barristan is this?
On character (reverse?) assassination- + Show Spoiler +Broken Tyrion is a pretty different person in the show. We've already seen a huge difference in behavior at the brothel. Not-quite-rape scene turned polite, charming and when it came down to it he was unable to bring himself to even use a slave whore? Is there a "gave up on the world" vs. "gave up on himself" switch going on here, or am I getting way off?

Yeah I also jumped in here to see what my fellow book-readers thought of the show's direction in the first episode and was treated to unspoilered conversation about leaked episodes. No big deal, I suppose, since I have read the books, but things such as Sansa's storyline would still have been a surprise considering the degree of the deviation.
I blame HBO for this more than the forumgoers, people can't really control themselves when it comes to content they want to consume. But why HBO felt it was necessary, or even helpful, to send out episodes in advance for reviews boggles the mind.

Littlefinger just became a liability and the marriage has a price ...Roose should kill him now before there are any surprises.

+ Show Spoiler +You know I'm real disappointed with the house of black and white. It's just... not very... atmospheric. It seems so plain. So basic. Anyone else share this sentiment?

Anyone else share this sentiment? + Show Spoiler +I think the way they depicted it was very fitting. House of black&white is sort of underground organization who don't seek any power or money. It would be odd if they had some epic building or interior, and it doesn't go inline with faceless god. If anything we could complain about lack of people. But its very minor issue.

+ Show Spoiler +Damn right. I agree. When Barristan left the Kingsguard and basically told Joffrey to go fuck himself, we learn that Cersei sent five goldcloaks after him to retrieve and imprison him. When we see him again at Dany's side, we also learn that he killed all five.
If he can kill five goldcloaks wearing ringmail armors, he can kill five Sons of the Harpy wearing t-shirts. It's just that the guy who plays Selmy looks the part, but he's not as fit as book-Selmy. I don't blame him, I imagine very few old people would be.

Cross-asking my own question from the other thread: do you guys think that [in the show] Daenerys is immune to fire?
We know that GRRM has stated that as far as the books are concerned, she is not immune. Her surviving the fire unscathed at the funeral pyre was a one-time magical event involving several factors. In the show though, I'm more tempted to say she actually is immune to fire, but I'm not sure.

We know that GRRM has stated that as far as the books are concerned, she is not immune. Her surviving the fire unscathed at the funeral pyre was a one-time magical event involving several factors. In the show though, I'm more tempted to say she actually is immune to fire, but I'm not sure. Why does it matter? She clearly has a high tolerance for heat (made clear in S1). However, immunity to fire cannot be decided one way or the other. Unless in episodes 2-4 something happens where she should be burnt to a cinder if she weren't, we simply don't have enough info. In Ep. 1, what we see is the dragons breathing fire all around her. She is clearly upset and seems afraid, but whether that fear is because she knows fire can burn her, or because she is (rightfully) afraid of out-of-control dragons, is up for interpretation.
Talking about Ep. 1: they are clearly taking the battle for Winterfell in a very different direction than has been implied by ADwD. In general, killing Mance seemed quite unnecessary: he was a great character, and killing him seems more like a signal to the book readers that things are really going to be completely different than anything else.
Second point: Sansa and Littlefinger leaving the Vale is silly. In fact, from the show point of view it doesn't make any sense at all. They go to the vale to escape. There they murder Lysa, and are actually pretty safe. So then they leave. Wtf. I know that Littlefinger consolidating political power was not the most riveting, and am glad they are thinking of something to do instead of that, but it has to make some kind of sense: why leave the Vale? The justification they give, that they are going somewhere that the Lannisters cannot get to them at all is utterly inane: that place is the Vale.
