SPOILER WARNING If you only watch the show, this thread will spoil you of future events in HBO's Game of Thrones. Thread contains discussion of all books of the series A Song of Ice and FireClick Here for the spoiler-free thread. |
I'm going to believe it when I see it. Her character and character arc is just too awesome to be considered a minor thing that can be left out.
Actors usually aren't told what happens with their characters a season or two down the line, so if they planned to bring LSH back next season, Michelle Fairley would not necessarily have to know about it yet. Though, granted, they're already casting actors, so right about now would be the time they'd tell her. But one can hope, right?
The only reason I can come up with why they'd completely write her out would be because she would be moved from a major (POV) character to a minor character. We would only see see LSH through Brienne's (and perhaps Jaime's) POV, and she would most likely only appear in one or two or three episodes. Other than that.. why the heck exclude her? Her character was pretty much made for TV!

I actually think it's a good idea to leave her out. I never understood what her purpose was in the books besides hunting some Freys down. It felt more like "hey let's bring someone back as an undead, because hey, that sounds cool", than actually contributing to the story in a meaningful way.
I actually think the more magic they cut out of the show the better, I already felt the skeleton/fireball scene and also Melisandre's shadow-thingy felt extremely out of place.

brienne's conflict between remaining loyal to her vows and killing jamie who shes fond of. if lady stone heart isn't in the show that removes a threat to the eldest son of the lanisters. kinda a spoiler brienne wont kill him in next book.

It may be the catalyst that lets Brienne kill Jaime.
If LSH doesn't appear in the show, this probably means Brienne won't kill Jaime in the next book?

So I'm a bit late to the party.. but how fucking disappointing was that last episode. After all that hype "oh this shit is the best piece of the show we've ever created" and it turns out to fucking suck.
I haven't really minded any of the changes the show has made thus far, until the last episode. If they completly cut out LSH(which seems likely given the previously linked interview and besides, if they were gonna include her they should have ended the season with the reveal), I'm gonna be sooooooo disapppointed.
For me, LSH was like a shocking, kind of satisfying reveal during the time it felt like I needed something to hold on to. Sure, she ends up being a bit too vengeful etc but still, that sweet revenge on the Freys feels soo good.. Also, does this mean she wont play a larger part in the coming books? I was kind of hoping for her seriously fucking some shit up.
What I don't understand is why they would cut her out, she plays at least a reasonably large part in the plot as we know it right now, and might even be more important in the future. And it's not like they lack the screentime to give her, just cut out a scene of Jamie and Cersei fucking and they could fit a reveal in there.. And I doubt it has anything to do with "too much fantasy LOLOL" considering they added those skeletons and fucking fireballs and shit...
Also, lastly, what the fuck was up with the "a thousand eyes and one" quote with a Bloodraven with two eyes? :S
D&D.. I am disappoint

My disappointment turned to "this means Jaime doesn't die! ...right away, probably, at least in the ways it looked like he might...wait, this is a bad show to book semi-spoiler" too quickly.
Of all the big character re-shaping changes, this is one I approve of more. Bringing people back to life should be strictly regulated, and explaining this one away to the non-readers would have been hard. It is not one of the things I like so much in the books even, and there GRRM has more tools to rationalize it.
I would also mention something about the show being stronger when they keep the fantasy down, but post-diablo scene that battle is over, done, and lost in a complete and devastating rout.

if they cut LSH they might as well cut Brienne altogheter.
And maybe Jaime while theyre at it...
me no likes

Well, the show is going to have more and more fantasy elements. That's just the way the plot's heading, there's nothing they can do about that.

You mean Brynden? He teaches Bran about skin-changing, so I would assume he meant he's been watching the whole time through the eyes of different animals/people?

Thing is. LSH only felt great as a reveal to me because she shows up at the end of the book that included the Red Wedding. By the time she was revealed I was STILL fucking mad about the Red Wedding, so when I see her out and about stringing up Freys it felt fucking amazing.
For show watchers, if they introduce her in Season 5 there will be a whole season and nearly 2 years in between her reveal and the Red Wedding, she won't have the same impact.
We still don't know what kind of purpose she's going to end up serving in the story so far. It could be perhaps as simple as coming full circle on Brienne and Jaime's arc, but we just don't know yet.

I also think that says quite a lot about the upcoming things in the next books. Assuming that they're not willing to completely abandon the story lines of the book I guess LSH wouldn't have played such an important role anyway. I like that they're trying to tell the story a little more straight-forward.
Even every die-hard GoT fan must admit that book four and five really were a bit tedious at some point and that it felt like GRRM lost the thread a bit.

It's a quote from the Dunk and Egg novellas. Back when Bloodraven was Hand, he was thought to have many spies (500 I guess), hence 1000 eyes and one, since he lost his other eye. The guy in the show seems to have 2 eyes, so the quote makes little sense.

Yea but no one can agree where the tedium lies.
I personally find all the chapters about the Ironborn tiresome but I love everything about Dorne and Brienne's story.
For a lot of other people it's the opposite.

Aaah I see. Well, perhaps one of the animals or w/e only had 1 eye

Well, technically that would make it "999 eyes and two". Doesn't quite have the same ring to it LOL

well technically the quote in the michelle fairley interview
EW: You couldn’t have missed the online furor over the lack of Lady Stoneheart in the Thrones finale. Were you surprised by that attention?
Michelle Fairley: I actually haven’t seen any of that. I don’t look that stuff up. I avoid it like the plague. I was totally unaware.
EW: There was a lot of online conversation. I heard third-hand that you were basically told that it’s not likely to ever happen. Is that accurate?
Michelle Fairley: Yeah, the character’s dead. She’s dead.
EW: Do you have a preference at all—do you think Catelyn’s arc should end where it ended, or would you be into the resurrection idea?
Michelle Fairley: You respect the writers’ decision. I knew the arc, and that was it. They can’t stick to the books 100 percent. It’s impossible—they only have 10 hours per season. They have got to keep it dramatic and exciting, and extraneous stuff along the way gets lost in order to maintain the quality of brilliant show. the asoiaf subreddit is really focusing on her "she's dead" comment, because well, LSH is literally dead...
my hopes are dashed and im so sad and disappointed if they dont include her TT

Are there any news on Arianne? They won't cut her, or will they?
|
They cut out Coldhands, it's not unlikely that they would cut out LSH. LSH is deemed important not because she's undead or because she's wrecking Freys, but because she's Catelyn Stark. It's a major POV who we see a lot of in the books, so...
Yeah. They're going to cut her.
Regarding AFFC and ADWD, I personally don't understand the disappointment. I liked them. The closest I came to being bored while reading was with a couple of Brienne's chapters. Jaime's chapters are amazing, Reek's are just so well written, even Victarion is interesting and badass.
I think I am going to read the Dunk & Egg novellas next. And isn't there a new one that was just released?
