I feel your pain, man. Sorry to say, but when I saw someone defending Stannis in the other thread, I figured it had to be a book reader. The fact is, Show!Stannis is not a likeable character by a large margin. He has virtually no redeemable qualities.
We'll need to deal with it. I've come to accept him as a totally different character, borderline evil. I'm even seriously doubting any hope of redemption through the Battle of the Wall.
This doesn't mean that I am one of those blind Stannis followers, as he's done some very wretched things. When it comes down to it, it's true that his intent of fighting Renly's army was stupid, and Stannis may be stubborn but he's not stupid. He had to know about the Shadow Baby, otherwise it's completely out of character.
Anyway... Leave it be, Steveling, Show!Stannis is doomed! Perhaps you'll get a come back after episode 9...
I have read the books aswell. Book stannis is a noble man, but perhaps not sharpest leader. Show Stannis is plain unlikable. He acts like the opposite of the book version, basicly like a spoiled, entitled mamas boy who refuses to lift a finger to get what he wants unles melissandre tells him to. And unlike in the books, he seems to have zero regard for loyalty or commitment (With the exception of season 2 pre blackwater) based on how he treats Davos. Its really sad to admit, but ShowStannis really is s character who you just want to punch in the face.

He lost his tongue. He was role merged with someone who in the books had been a random KL singer in that regard. Way back in season 1 it seemed like a reasonable part of the setup for his eventual role as the scapegoat for Lysa's death. Make him mute to help rationalize how he couldn't tell a convincing story when LF accuses him. Now LF's story is....she slipped? And nobody heard the yelling despite the doors being perfectly open? And everyone is ok with an upjumped minor lord acting as lord protector of the Vale after a hasty wedding and 'mysterious' death of the lady of the Vale?
I guess the show has never explained how very minor house Baelish is, so that helps in a way. They only referred to it as minor relative to Tullys, and minor relative to lords paramount leaves a lot of room. They didn't explain that it is just a three generation old household stemming from a lightly landed knight.
I guess they will rework the lords of the Vale to be more antagonistic to Lysa and happy to see her gone while less apprehensive towards LF in the first place, then quickly introduce those deals LF makes to endear himself to their interests and/or set them against one another and pretend it works out.
Yeah they need a good explanation. I think the show writers just wrote off Mirallion altogether. I don't think it would have been believable for a bard who can't practice his trade to travel from King's Landing to the Vale to do something that would make him a fixture at court.

But "Only Cat" sounds slightly more self-obssessed because that's who Catelyn was from HIS point of view. Which is what Littlefinger is all about when you get down to it; his own desires.

He already said there's only one woman he's ever loved in life before saying, your sister. Plus before that he told sansa he loved her mom more than anything and implied he killed joffrey for her. His cat obsession is quite evident in the show.
How in the Seven's name are they going to get Littlefinger out of this mess? There is no singer to blame... which would've made for a much better scene. Guards bursting through the doors and LF pointing at the singer.
edit: final scene without the singer omg why, that would have been a thousand times better. Ending the ep on the guards bursting in and him pointing the finger.
I agree. With the singer missing it makes Littlefinger so much more impulsive and less calculating than in the books. Newsflash, show producers: he's meant to be a big player! Do not like.
And fuck yeah Oberyn scene so good Everything Tyrion related has been on another level compared to the rest of the show lately.
I'm so glad that Pedro Pascal turned out to be superb as Oberyn. I guess i was among those many who wanted Oded Fehr, just because he might have had a better look, but i doubt it could have been as good.
edit: my only hope is that they show a scene of Oberyn eating something with Tywin, to prove a theory that mindfucked me when i heard about it.

Let's be real here: A sizable portion of the viewers (not many, but enough) would go "Who's Cat?" if they would have kept Littlefinger's original line. You simply have to account for casual viewers when writing a show, people who forget names and places, and that Catelyn was called "Cat" by Littlefinger once or twice in the first season. You can't count on people just knowing this.
People called her Cat all of the time, Robert, Ned, Little finger included Seeing as how he JUST said that he loved lysa's sister it's really not that difficult to connect the dots, I think that the show runners think viewers are dumber than bricks (i.e. yara change)
well some of those are unusual names and its very different if you only hear them without having a clue how the names are spelled than to read them in a book. There are a lot of characters, lots of different accent. You can always see how people in the other thread spell all the names wrong just because theyve only heard them.
When i hear a weird name and have no idea how its spelled, then im pretty lost too.

It's not exactly an assumption that everyone is dumb. It's the simple calculation that, if you dumb the show down to a certain extend, more people (the dumber ones) will be watching. Which, unfortunately, is exactly how it works. Thus, things will be dumbed down. It's naive to not expect this to happen.
We're lucky the show is on HBO, where the dumbing down is usually far less blatant than on most (or all, I dare say) other networks. Just imagine NBC would have picked up the show..
And am I the only one who got the impression that the new Mountain actor isn't that good at acting? His performance felt pretty underwhelming to me.

Interesting turn with Hot Pie, I guess it's to cut down on their wanderings.
I guess the bread will become important in the Lady Stoneheart meeting.
Oh I like that... Yeah, this change could make their arc much better.
Also, it's hilarious to see book readers in the other thread desperately arguing how much Stannis sucks, without being allowed to say that they only hate the character because he is a bad adaption from the books.

They probably had to compensate for Dany not showing her body or something.
Speaking of the red woman, guys, what's the deal with Shireen? What are they hinting at? Am I missing something from the book? Or is this a subtle spoiler of sorts?
The Mountain scene was just comical, like "lol make sure Gregor kills 5 men for breakfast this morning, you know how he turns into Ser Grumpy if he doesn't kill a few peasants" But I guess they needed to reintroduce him somehow.
I hope the next Arya/Hound scene is the one that sets up her fleeing, they're starting to get repetitve. Also, I still think that Arya is being built up to be some kind of grim reaper of sorts, and that her role will be to kill one of the main characters. My money is on Dany.
We have a couple of big events still to come; the mountain/oberyn fight next episode. Then the battle at the wall after that. Of course Tyrion's next move as well and Arya should be getting on a boat. Hopefully also a Coldhands and/or lady stoneheart reveal as well, though I'm not holding my breath. But what could the episode title of the last episode be referring to "The Children"?
The Children of the Forest, I hope. They'll probably end the season on that reveal. They said that the last episode contains the most expensive scene yet (in cost per second terms), so they'll probably have some really, really fancy CGI for that, too.
