On a better note, I like where Jon's character is going. Kit is getting some good material to work with, and I like his acting. Can't wait for the "Edd, fetch me a block" moment in season 5. I'm not arguing, I'm genuinely intrigued -- why do people like Coldhands so much? The character did absolutely nothing for me. He was mildly mysterious but ultimately just stretched out the already boring and drawn out bran worldbuilding arc. If i recall correctly, he helps sam, then meets up with bran and co, and then they wander around for a long time, and then they find the cave. What is the big deal im missing? Same for me. He is the Tom Bombadil of GoT to me. Never understood why people are mad he got cut.

Liked this ep way more than last one. Good Arya+Hound as usual, added Cersei scenes were ok (as long as she goes back to normal after the trial), didn't mind the Bran subplot all that much. Jon Snow vs Karl was an incredibly stupid fight scene though, when Karl stabbed Jon's leg I was waiting for Jon to just slice him in two or something.
I also have some better hopes for the Brienne storyline, mostly because the actors are doing it brilliantly.
Don't care much about the Dany storyline until the Sons of the Harpy plot comes by.
Also, show only thread is pretty funny how they are now saying Varys is way inferior to Petyr in his plotting. Can't wait to see their reactions after what that guy pulls (Kevan+Pycelle RIP, Tyrion to Essos, Aegon Blackfyre/Targ)

Will we get Viper vs Mountain next episode? Really looking forward to that but I guess they'll want an episode of the trial first where the fight is announced.
I hope they make that scene as epic as possible.

Viper vs the Mountain is ep 8.

I like Coldhands and Tom Bombadil. I dunno why, they are just fun characters. Strong and mysterious but also very compassionate and helpful. Seriously how can you dislike tom bombadil?!^^
Also i actually like the entire Mereen arc. People complain about daenerys being lucky all the time and that she didnt earn anything.. well she sees that and she wants to gain more experience so she can grow up to be a better ruler.
Picture Sansa in her position. They both went through a lot but daenerys does something about it and takes what she wants. She doesnt sit in her misery waiting for someone else to save her all the time.
|
It helps that she has dragons and several skillful knights/warriors assisting her all the time. At the start of season 1 she was just as much of a baby imo.

tom bombadil does nothing to advance the plot. we don't learn anything from him, he doesn't really do anything, his chapters were not missed at all during the movie

Coldhands is just an interesting character. An undead Nights Watch member who still seems to have sentience and doesn't immediately kill humans. It's not about what he has done to this point, but what his existence means. What is he? How did he get to be what he is and why does he still seem to have his memories and free will?
I agree partially with you on Dany in that she has made the best of what she has been given, but I think it's a bit unrealistic to compare her situation with Sansa. I'm not sure what Dany would have done in Sansa's position that would have her in a signficantly better position. She might have done something more aggressive about her plight than Sansa has, but realistically that would likely result in her death. With no dragons, no blood riders, no Jorah and no Selmy she would be just as powerless as Sansa to do anything more aggressive and hope to survive. At best she could have played TVMargeary's seduction strategy on Joffrey or Tyrion, much like she did with Drogo, but she would have no hand maidens to teach her anything, and Dany wasn't asked to seduce someone directly responsible for killing her family.

In a story where there are hundreds of named characters, only a handful possess any magic qualities. Coldhands not only possesses magical qualities, but qualities unique to anything we've seen so far in the story. I'd like to think that means something, but who knows, maybe he's just a random Undead Night's Watchmen that retained his own free will, and randomly rides around North of the Wall saving people from White Walkers and Wights and mutinous Night's Watchmen.

Isn't the point of a main character to grow as the story progresses? Aside from Tyrion, the main characters in the series are all kids. We shouldn't be holding their book 1 introductions against them. Even accounting for Dany's regression in book 5, Sansa has still been the most stagnant of the main characters so far. Tyrion, Bran, Jon, Dany and Arya have all evolved one way or the other. Sansa only started changing past book 3.

I fuqqing hated Dany/Emilia Clarkes acting besides a select few moments, but when she gave Jorah the slight eyebrow raise with her smile while Barristen is going over what they have in terms of a Westeros invasion, I died a little in the inside.

I think some people just have unrealistic expectations of Sansa. She is a 14 year old noble girl who has never had to fend for her self. If she was able to accomplish half of what Dany has in those circumstances it would be a much more unrealistic story. In real world examples it would be like a news story about a 14 year old who was kidnapped after the kidnappers killed her family, abused her, and then forced to marry one of the kidnappers, I don't think most people would be thinking, that girl is a dumbass for just trying to stay alive in that situation, or would expect the girl to kill one or more of her captors the way many people do about Sansa.

No they woulnd't but that isnt really fair, is more like dumb 14 year old kids tells kidnappers about her parents plan to escape, and then they go on to kill her family. Seems like a dumb 14 year old for not listening to her parents and not knowing who to trust. I for one would be pissed off if my kid would trust another person more than someone else.

Well then be ready to be pissed off if you ever plan on having kids. They do dumb shit, especially when they're teenagers. There's no doubt it was dumb for her to go to Cersei with Ned's plans, and who knows who it would have turned out, but after 4 more books it's kind of hard to hold that against her when she was just trying to keep her "dreams" from being shattered. She definitely learned a lot of really hard lessons, and it's the trials that she has been through that make her story have so much potential. With her motives and Littlefinger teaching her the ropes, she could be diplomatic Arya, cracking skulls and slitting throats all over the Seven Kingdoms.
Also, if we're talking about people not knowing who to trust, Ned Stark was the biggest offender on that front and he didn't have the excuse of being a teenager, he was just an idiot. He knew how dangerous and duplicitous Cersei was and still trusted her to do the right thing. At least Sansa didn't have a clue.

That's not accurate either. Ned knew the Lannister's were dangerous, Sansa only knew that some of Eddard's men had been killed without any details, and she hadn't been given any reason not to trust Cersei. Ned told her they were leaving for their safety, but didn't tell her who the cause of the danger was. She had no reason to suspect what would follow, and it only seems dumb because the reader has total knowledge of the situation.

Completely agree, especially on the fight scene. Despite being combat trained (both night watch and at winterfall) Jon did the typical movie "hit them in the sword" kind of fighting which just looked silly to me. Usually it's pretty hard to lose against someone with half your range, two knifes or not.
When it comes to Varys, I generally feel that the show does not really illustrate who the real "players" of the game of thrones are. In the earlier seasons Varys had much more of a presence in the story, now he barely classifies as a support character (has he even had a line so far?). In contrast to the books, where it becomes obvious that the real players are not part of the somewhat openly competing factions but the ones manipulating these factions and the game itself. (Littlefinger, Varys, Bolton, maaaaaybe Tyrion one day)
From what the show has told us the most brilliant schemers are Cersei, Tywin and Olenna Redwyne (Queen of Thorns). I hope they will show that "higher level" of the game to the viewers soon.

Stupid teenager making terrible decisions for "love" with someone they barely know getting their family killed man I hate + Show Spoiler + stark. + Show Spoiler +oh nvm he is a sword wielding manly man that i relate to. let's hate on some girl that did the same thing
