Agreed 100%.
Most importantly I think is the whole coldness-ambience factor when they approach isn't being portrayed at all.

Yeah, what happened? I remembered them looking great from the Season 1 prologue. Huge, menacing, glowing eyes, armor, swords etc. Now they're old and mostly naked... it just doesn't look scary at all.
Maybe I'm remembering that first episode wrong or maybe they only looked so awesome because we couldn't see much other than the glowing eyes. Either way, disappointed with how they look now.

"On the next Game of Thrones: The show is off next week, but returns on June 2 for the ninth episode. In season 1, episode 9 ended with Ned Stark getting beheaded. In season 2, episode 9 was the Battle of Blackwater. So I'm guessing something HUGE is gonna happen."
Joffrey dies next episode? I really want to watch this episode with someone who didnt read the books^^

I personally didn't like them much from the first episode already. Sort of pointed the way for me with how some things would be done.
From the AGoT prologue I got a sense of slow enroaching coldness and darkness that was inevitable, while the episode 1 depiction went for standard Hollywood horror i.e. fast moving, blurry with a 'shock' reveal. I always thought there was a sense of inescapable doom from the books, elegant cold death. I particularly miss the description of Royce's futile duel and death.
Yeah, I glanced around a bit and found this tidbit that Martin apparently told the comic book artist:
The Others are not dead. They are strange, beautiful… think, oh… the Sidhe made of ice, something like that… a different sort of life… inhuman, elegant, dangerous

That is because ASOIAF has the most misleading prologue ever.
It paints a picture of The Others as these important zombie ice demons, and then... 5 fat tomes later... absolutely nothing.

Definitely next season - probably towards the end.
Edit: Mid season actually, since it'd have to precede the Tyrion stuff at the end.

Early. It has to happen before Jaime makes it to KL, and it has to happen before all the trial stuff of course.

They also butchered the reeds, so many characters that will become ill perceived due to these changes Just curious, was there ever an on-screen adaption that you enjoyed?
I actually thought the first season was fucking perfect, and yes theres tons of adaptations I liked
Just off the top of my head, TDK, Ruroni Kenshin live action movie, Iron Man, the TV adaptation from Bernanrd Cornwell's Sharpe series, and many more.

But still, this episode left me a little frustrated. I know that what we’re seeing is the first half of the third book, and I’m more and more afraid that there isn’t going to be quite as devastating a closing punch as there was in the last two seasons, because we’re going to be closing on the middle of a book. Ugh, I can feel myself eating my words as I type this, so I’m just going to stop, because David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (and George R.R. Martin) know what the fuck they’re doing, and they haven’t let me down yet.
The buttdevastation from show-only watchers is going to be beyond legendary. I can sense it.
I can only hope people in the other thread here on TL haven't been too spoiled.

I though they were going to pull some of it sooner just because it cleans the slate for new characters. It really wouldn't surprise me all that much if they end the season with Joff, Robb and Balon dead.

It will be most interesting to see what they do with Balon (the Iron Islands) and, as it relates to Joff's death, the Dornish. On one hand those storylines would be good cutting room floor fodder in order to keep the show story a more condensed. On the other hand including them is the way to make three seasons worth of content from books 4 and 5, which helps them stay behind the books.
Except for the lack of Oberyn, I would be thinking the purple wedding will be episode 10 and this season will close out with all three of the leech names dead.
So much for that idea that they were going to use the stillborns instead of leeches.
Addendum: "3: 10 - Joffrey challenges Tywin. Bran tells a ghost story. In Dragonstone, mercy comes from strange quarters. Dany waits to see if she is a conqueror or a liberator."
...well that about puts the idea of the purple wedding making into this season after all to rest. This Joff v Tywin confrontation should be good. I think we've already heard a part of it; that "everyone is mine to torment" line from the trailer. New topic or just the same Sansa issue as it was in the books, but moved to after she is married to Tyrion?
That ghost story might be very interesting. Tower of Joy? Finally some R+L=J in the show? If it is just the random Nightfort legends that doesn't seem worthy of mention in the preview summary.
Davos saves Gendry already? Stannis should be very disappointed. It looks like they are cleaning up the timeline to remove the warp drives from his ships.

thats what i thought or i hoped but the episode description doesnt seem like it, unless they made that intentionally hidden.
3: 9 - Robb presents himself to Walder Frey, and Edmure meets his bride. Jon faces his harshest test yet. Bran discovers a new gift. Daario and Jorah debate how to take Yunkai. House Frey joins with House Tully.
3: 10 - Joffrey challenges Tywin. Bran tells a ghost story. In Dragonstone, mercy comes from strange quarters. Dany waits to see if she is a conqueror or a liberator.

I always kind of pictured them looking similar to the twilight nazgul in lord of the rings.

I think not showing the slaughter at the fist really hurt the threat level of the others, along with having Sam be surrounded at the end of season 2, and then never explaining how he escaped. Now he has killed a White Walker, but we haven't SEEN a white walker kill anyone since episode one of season 1. No wonder so many non-readers think it's not a big deal that he killed one, and that their army is no threat.

Another fantastic episode! Tyrion scenes hilarious, Cersei even more hilarious, Arya+Hound great, Davos great, Sam the Slayer great!!!
I've pretty much thoroughly enjoyed every episode I remember this season except GRRM's. Which is a really weird thing for me to find myself saying.
But... seriously, HBO, enough fucking nudity. When was the last time we had an episode without someone baring tits? Tits aren't what make the show awesome, and too much of them detract from what make the show awesome.
Grrrrrrr.
That said, the Melisandre + Gendry scene was suuuuuuuuuuuper creepy. I definitely agree with whoever said that dislike of the actress increases hatred for the character

Everyone complains about nudity after an episode with a little bit of it, but forgets that multiple episodes go by without some.

Red Wedding is kinda a given from those descriptions, but I don't think anyone in this thread is really surprised seeing it was kinda the natural midpoint in the book. Next episode, and I'm guessing it's going to be like 90% of the episode perhaps ending with Arya and the Hound arriving late. Mixed in it seems the only major story going along side is Jon's mad dash for the wall with Bran coming in to save him with Summer.
The last episode is probably mostly focused on Dany, I guess we will get to see some battling from the sewers and the eventual take of the City. Just doesn't seem like feature length stuff, but it easily could be. Joffrey challenges Tywin tells us just about nothing, could be something, could be nothing =/.
Seeing they have to pretty much introduce the entire south and reintroduce a bunch of people in the north next season, I can't imagine Tywin and Joffrey being very long for this tv series. However, I guess you are right, probably stuff in the first 5 episodes of next season.
