And that bit with stannis's wife... You know... The stillborns in jars! Wtf!!! Sells crazy right away
I lul'd at that part. Seemed a little overdone, but whatever.

hah. That would have been too many weird things in a five minute span I think. We already saw her religious fervor, and her joy about Stannis fucking Melisandre. Then we saw her collection of stillborns. I think a mustache would have just tipped the absurdity scales.
On that note, I'm having a hard time reconciling the differences between book and TV show stannis. I was a lot more sympathetic with Stannis in the books, but he just seems like a weirdo surrounded by weirdos in the show.
Anyways, this latest episode was pretty good. I enjoyed the sword fight at the beginning between the Hound and Beric. And I liked the discussion between Arya/Beric/Thoros. The Jaime and Brienne conversation was good as well. Though a couple of the scenes did seem botched. The Sansa/Littlefinger conversation felt weird. And I didn't really like the Selyse scene, but I see how they're trying to get their point across fast.

They portrayed him much better in this episode than they did in Ep 3. I wouldn't really say they're making him look religious (he still seems pretty distanced from all the fire-god fanaticism - as exemplified by being distinguished from his wife this episode and his continued skepticism towards Melisandre).
They just made him look passionately lustful in Ep 3 which was completely out of character.
It actually seemed like they were going to start properly portraying Stannis this episode between his emotionless honesty towards his daughter and his genuine guilt when confessing he broke his vows to his wife.

That's because "he's fires were low." By fires, they just meant his "moral character" Ki, Chi, ect ect were depleted. Which is why he acted in a lustful/low moral character way. Now that he has regained his constitution of will (or whatever you call it), he need to apologizes to his wife as he is fully back to his self now-ish.
So showing him in a way that seems "completely out of character" was the point.

I never thought of that way. I don't recall it ever explicitly putting it that way in the books, but interesting nonetheless.
I loved the foreshadowing in this episode about RW and what happens to Cat afterwards. The whole Berric respected Ned thing, and the talk about coming back from dead and what can be done and what cannot
So... Nobody is talking about how it looks like they can fast forward the melisandre storyline two books given that Edric in this one is a stillborn in a jar?

Talk is that the show will merge Edric and Gendry, so it's not that bad. And we all know what's gonna happen with those 3 stillborns.
Some minor details, regarding troop numbers really bug me, but oh well, very good episode nonetheless.
Also why make Loras heir to Highgarden? Even if the other Tyrells arent introduced, it just makes no sense. So once he joins the Kingsguard, Highgarden has no heir. logical really.... I know it wont matter in the long run, but... why? Trying to marry him to Sansa makes sense, really, but this, not so much.

You couldnt, after first season the show takes parts from storylines much further ahead. Even the first book isnt going very strictly by the book.
Season three - which theoretically is the first half of book 3 - has many elements from book 2, and some from the end/last part of book 3. If you really want to skip on reading, skip the first one (for now).
