As dota keeps evolving (or devolving, as I prefer older versions) that tends to happen.
We've come from trilanes, to dual lanes, to mid matchups, to dual-trilane mids, to offlanes being the #1 gold position, to sacrificial offlanes, and so on so forth.
Things that were lost and never found are junglers (we lost them long time ago and now with talon gone for years it's done and done) and traditional roles.
Before the gold shared between a team was way stricter, now there's just so much gold and everyone gets this and that and that and another item, etc.
Also I agree that Chalice and Ame both had their heropool hindered by patchs, but who knows, I just hope for less patches like before so teams can figure the best and so on so forth, a patch every 2 weeks kills the patch developtment process and strategy learning.
