DotA is just such a great game that it would take something much much more drastic than that to make me quit.
Like seriously icetoad could change all the heroes into literal blobs of poop but if the gameplay remained, I'd play it, as I have for the past 10 years.
Basically I've come to accept that any patch will have its own meta and playstyle, some more "cancerous" than others, and if I'm not happy with it (6.83 and the centaur/drow patch was the only such time iirc) I just take a break because the next patch will shake things up enough that it'll be damn fun as usual.

The problem is variety is a poor indicator of balance. It doesn't indicate the viability of playstyles, only drafting counters.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't many viable playstyles seen to some extent in this patch up until Boston (where illusion pushes reigned supreme)?

Not really. The primary ones were [lane dominance through harassment -> 5 man push with safe illusion sieging and decent teamfight] and [strong lanes -> heavy teamfight]. This tournament has been somewhat novel with pseudo 4 protect 1 strats from AF, VP and EG and a shift back towards roaming gank combos. The mid lane still remains very boring and predictable, and there are a large subset of heroes that only function as draft counters or surprise picks.
I don't think the patch is garbage, but Icefrog has promoted a fair bit of homogenization in his patches in exchange for expanding the viable hero pool.

Melee against timber is so sad. Get pms first, you get out lasthit because timber has a quelling. Get quelling first, you get harrass by him out of lane even faster.
