It's not guaranteed because of the group stage, but given that there were 5 chinese teams at boston, it becomes reasonably likely that a chinese team faces another chinese team in the ro16. So there is a discrepancy, but with caveats. it was strictly true that there would be a chinese team in the ro8 at boston because there was a chinese team facing another chinese team (the two LGDs)

If in Shanghai chinese teams did well in groups, they would have had a guaranteed Top 6.

I guess Newbee sucking is sorta a surprise to me but I don't think anyone ever had high hopes for Ehome (from recent results) or either LGD's to make it far. I kinda have this fear that VP vs EG is going to be this tournament at it's peak.

Wings played pretty bad this tournament (and looked shaky at Summit 6) but we'll see what's up after the inevitable shuffle

I don't think I could call Wings bad because they dropped the bo3 against the team most likely to win the entire major, even if it was a convincing series. It might add to hype because we saw a couple of upsets but if this were to be a double elim format, we would most likely be seeing a very different tournament here (obviously). I kinda have this fear that VP vs EG is going to be this tournament at it's peak. OG hasn't shown the same level of play as VP but they're more versatile. EG came well prepared for VP and I don't think they will have this edge against OG. I still favor EG but I would not count OG out.

You saw it with IG, Alliance and Newbee. Like their results are getting worse, they can't compete with top teams anymore and realistically speaking, most of these TI winning teams never could find it in themselves to compete at that high level again. It's just the nature of DotA I suppose. EG admittedly had a bit of a slump but they also were the first TI winning team to go through an immediate roster change after winning and their results were still good. What makes EG more impressive I guess is that they've always been relevant whereas you can't say the same with any of the other TI winners. Honestly speaking, TI1 doesn't mean shit, so I discount Na'Vi even though at that era, they were consistently a top tier team. So does Wings suck? I don't know yet, this could be something they work out or this could spell the beginning of doom for them. Still I'm kinda waiting to see what happens.
