i agree high ground defense is kinda retarded but i personally like it lol. it's a delicate balancing act, pushing into high ground should definitely warrant an advantage to the defending team, not too much where it's easy to roll over to the tier 3 towers without items but not too hard to where it's impossible.

Counter-attacks off the high ground are a staple of Dota since like, 2009. The games get boring because attacking teams are often excessively conservative.

It still was essentially impossible for VP to win a fight unless they somehow get EG to commit way out of position and to waste their spells

They should just disable comeback gold near the area of the base. Disadvantaged team deserves some comeback gold if they have the balls to come out and catch heroes, but not turtling on high ground.

The high ground is a team's last stand. Maybe make buy back on cool down longer.

I feel like people tunnel-vision a lot when talking about how impossible high-ground is. Focus too much on the big name matches that often feature the same teams (EG has had limitations at high-ground since 2014 now, it's a team thing not a patch thing), forget about the thousands of matches that end without as much as a bump.
