they dont have working computers. (no joke, their computers literally dont work and they are trying to switch it for like an hour)

lets just dream this is the last major ever be held in china :|

how come they dont have working computer
100% computer material are made in China
and they're in China

chinese organizers and managers are notorious for skimping and trying to pocket profits

idk if thats going on here, i think the skimping goes on even without profiting sometimes out of habit

because they are retarded.
just think back 12 months ago were problems like these were common in every single tournament. but at some point (coincidentally falling together with envys blogs on how terrible tournaments are run) people decided to not be retarded anymore. unfortunately china never got the memo.

At first I was in rage for the delay.
But now, once i've made peace with it, I want the delay to be long enough so the analyst desk starting to analyze really absurd things.

They also had a players summit at Valve HQ where they kind of established a baseline for acceptable standards....which went out the window in China. But I also feel like you're seeing less shitty run tourneys because there's just less tourneys. Once Valve brought the majors in it killed off having like 50 Starladders, DHs, etc a year so there's just less opportunities to have a poorly run tournament.

ppd said it was after DAC(?) that Valve flew out a bunch of Western Players and they came to an agreement on several things for the high-end tournaments. 144hz, 24inch monitors being an "industry standard".

Which would be great if all the tournaments we had left actually went perfectly.

Well monitors are one thing, but a tournament having computers that work and being able to adjust quickly if one fails seems like a relatively basic thing that isn't even about player comfort but just having your event run smoothly and not alienating viewers.

It seems pretty natural to have some lack of judgement when it comes to things that are mostly about how comfortable players are, organizers often haven't been in the position of the player, they want to keep their costs as low as possible and may think something doesn't really matter. But when it comes to issues that straight up make the viewers go away it's just embarrassing.

And even before that organizers like Dreamhack and ESL were upping their game so they'd be the go-to choices for events like this.
Just throwing it out there, the Frankfurt Major was organized largely by ESL staff and the entire tournament had fewer hiccups than these two days of Shanghai Major

i'm pretty sure trump is smart enough to know that having shit that works is better than getting the cheapest shit possible and hoping it works

My cousin had a job in China being like a liaison for an American company that makes like end cap store displays. His job was literally going "Yeah, I know you got that color of red paint super cheap, but see Target Red is a very specific trademarked color of red that we have to use. Yes, its more expensive but that specific color is a standard that needs to be met, it's not up for discussion." Always seemed crazy to me.

nah some tournaments have improved massively. take esl one or the summit for example. at esl frankfurt 2014 they had to cancel the bo5 final and reduce it to bo3, reschedule a game on day 1 and had more downtimes than actual gametime for both days. then at esl frankfurt 2015 they had no technical problems whatsoever until the very end where the sound went silent for the stadium (but not the stream) for like 5 minutes. the same with the summit were the summit 2 had computers that werent able to run dota and no one tested it beforehand. in the first ~ 10 hours of the tournament only one bo3 was played. when the summit 3 came around it was the smoothest run tournament up to that date including internationals.
starladder improved massively as well. in the older starladder days there were random ~6hour pauses for no reasons between two matches and the last starladder at minsk was super awesome except the delays on day1 and a unstable english stream for the group stages.

all around the western tournaments have improved massively while china is still the same as it was a year ago.
