Yep. With the exception of DK, and now VG, they were always behind in farm pattern, jungle stacking etc. It's just that during TI 4, the farming style fell off.

Why did it fall off? I don't personally know, but I imagine Alliance getting rekt and other teams watching them get rekt had a lot to do with it. Western teams switched away from the TI 3 strategy and went back to 5 man Doto which is, of course, what Chinese teams specialize in. Besides EG, the rest of them were all scrambling to find their own style @ TI 4 and Chinese teams fully exploited that lack of game plan. A lot of Western teams ended up trying to imitate the Chinese/EG and failing straight up.

After TI 4, however, experimentation resumed and this style was resurrected, piece by piece, by teams eg C9 and Secret. Now we're seeing a resurgence of the style Alliance invented - but without the Rat, and with a variety of different heroes.

Selective memory there. They've won plenty with medusa too.

And the only actual impact medusa had in those games was being a bait while everyone else does actual lifting.

Sure, but it is exceptional at doing what it does and it works. Moreover, the games in which she wins are not really that long.

Friendly reminder about TI4 actually being played in seriously snowbally patch, up to the point where first blood was deciding game winner. Also, popularity of serious pushing line-ups too (that DK vs VG game with 1st blood at 13 minutes and gg at 16).

isnt that the whole idea of medusa ?

bait and make your entire team "free", because you either go for medusa or hope you are fast enough to kill everyone before medusa shits on you

I mean, my point is that the only reason she was working is primarily because of teams being rather stubborn in relation to her.

Medusa does not shit on anyone without her team. Not until rapier + bkb/skadi/linkens/allofabove farm levels.

6.82 introduced the "more gold/exp bounty based on networth differential" mechanic and then the magnitude was nerfed in two subpatches

Rubber band patch as in that infamous WUTTHEFUCKWELOSTATEAMFIGHTNOWTHEYAREEVENONGOLD patch? First major patch after TI4 that was. TI4 was on 6.81.

Okay, so 6.82 was officially what started the comeback of the style, though it took Western teams practically five months to figure it out and retune their teams around it. Sheesh.

With the junk build everyone is going with Medusa, its unlikely that she can shit on you until very late. Which means prior to that, you have a very very huge window to just kill everyone else first.

Sure, but it is exceptional at doing what it does and it works. Moreover, the games in which she wins are not really that long.

I'm not sure what that sentence means. My point was to refute the original claim that medusa was a desperation pick in hopes of dragging the game long enough for her to 1v5, when in fact it fits quite well with other compositions as well.
