it matters. no don't overestimate the importance of xiao8 it's not like tongfu were doing poorly without him and newbee didn't have much issue winning a lot of stuff after xiao8 left. it's just that they need to be kept in line and stay practicing i don't follow newbee too much but what do you winning a lot of stuff outside ECL and WCA ? since i'm looking at their wikipedia page right now they also won NESO and IeSF I didn't include IeSF since the teams on the tournament is not even a match at all. It's just like some top team winning a qualifier with no real competition. uhm they didn't win NESO .. they are 3rd placer according here http://wiki.teamliquid.net/dota2/National_Electronic_Sports_Tournament_2014so their most impressive would be ECL after TI4? since WCA the real competition is only C9 and VG was weak at that time. wrong NESO it pains me to link gg instead of lp but lp doesn't have it

whether it's xiao8 or their coach, newbee needs someone to yell at them a lot

I'd say really only 3 teams right now look better than Rave: EG, Secret, and VG. You could maybe say that LGD and EHome would be toss ups with them, but all you need to make top 4 the way things are going is a toss up going your way.
To be in the top four you only need to have 3 or 4 teams better than you there anyway

I guess I knew after I came across the bug in Dota 1 where you could cleave dagons and shit if you used it at the same time your attack projectile hit the target.

I also didn't know that they can kill couriers if it is behind the target you are attacking, I saw that in one tournament game few weeks ago.

And even NB have picked up 1 win so 5-10 is near guaranteed advance, they can lose every game tomorrow and still advance lol.

They'll come out of groups 3-4, but teams that did well in groups can easily flop in bracket stage because series play is still very different from Bo1
Like, people forget how different Bo1s are from series play even though it's not exactly uncommon to see strong series teams flop in groupstage or vice versa.

Honestly, in fairness to Synd, he probably knows them all too, he just didn't have a chance to think it through in the spur of the moment. Like, he's clearly demonstrated before that he knows DotA 1's damage types thoroughly (and the changes to DotA 2).

Meanwhile Na'Vi for example hasn't played neither of those.
