Unfortunately, Chinese organizations seem to prefer placing their bets on second-tier veterans rather than on up-and-coming players. Indeed, I've long observed that.

It seems they value consistent performance and roster stability so teams will want to lockdown a team for a TI push around now. I feel that if one of the more successful teams of the last six months takes DAC they are pretty much guaranteed an invite.

Right now, the veterans and the talented new players both exist--the teams just have to get smart and put them together.

Hasn't there also been an absence of large tournaments in China? So far a lot of chinese dota has involved qualifiers for western LANs.

Who are the veterans that don't deserve to be on them but are?

The Chinese dota scene only usually livens up after Chinese New Year. But since DAC came right before Chinese New Year dangling a large amount of money, Chinese teams that wanted to disband or swap players decided to hold out for awhile longer till DAC is over.

After TI 4, there was WEC, WCA, I-League, G-League, NEST, and I think one other. Then there were the Western qualifiers, the insane DAC qualifiers, and an amateur league too. The issue was... Newbee, VG, and LGD basically crushed every team in those Chinese tourneys, showing that the gap between even a Newbee that isn't practicing and second-tier teams was immense. It's one cause for why Chinese teams don't want to recruit second-tier new players - because they figure those guys never win in the first place. But they're wrong in the same way thinking Sumail is bad because Sumail has never won a tournament before is wrong.
