I'm thinking if you lose the first encounter, might as well gg because you're not getting back in this game. Watch the EHOME against Orange game. yeah this game was a lot of fun for me, as a complete newbie. Then I read the thread, where everyone who understands the game was posting about how it was actually a terrible throw, not an amazing comeback. Well, when a team comes back from a disadvantage, even a very minor one, it's always a terrible throw when you read this forum, so don't read too much into it.

Comebacks only happen in MOBA games when the enemy makes a mistake. That's just the way it is due to the level / farm mechanic. Same for sc2, a mistake might be not foreseeing the way the opponent attempts to comeback

Assuming similar draft where both teams have equally good late game, that is just the way it is. Barring terrible mistakes, the teams with early lead get early towers - more farms.
There would be games where it seems like teams come back from behind, but in actual fact, their draft just became good in the mid-late game as they have more heroes that are efficient with items.

In dota it is more related to the picks/line up.

By that logic, how does one get ahead in the first place if not by the enemy making mistakes? It depends what you call a "mistake" versus just playing great.

Yeah, but in Dota / LoL it's worse because the advantage you gain from taking an early lead is not easily removed by the opponent via risks. In SC 2, for example, when you're behind you're able to go for an all-in, double expand, do an off timing attack, etc. to try to get back in the game. In Dota / LoL your only option is to smoke gank. Smoke ganking doesn't work against top teams these days.
There's no big 'take a risk' mechanic in Dota / LoL that allows you to gain a huge advantage when not punished.

Not in any game, games decided by a huge randomness factor don't require enemy to make a mistake. For example when throwing dice

BM wins 58% against Enigma. VS wins 55% against Enigma. When both BM and VS face Enigma together, they lose 68% of the time.

Team with BM > Team with Enigma
Vs > Enigma
But BM + VS < Enigma

some line-ups are more powerful early than late and a large discrepancy between the teams composition could make a team with an early lead lose to a more late game oriented team.
