It is true; they really, really don't want a two game long final, fairness be damned. Holymaster more or less came out and said this in a joinDotA forum post at one point, and I guess Valve agreed.
What makes it even worse from the player point of view is that due to the best of 1 system in the lower bracket the winners are not even necessarily playing fewer games as near as I can tell, so that flimsy excuse gets chucked out the window.

No advantage for upper bracket is waaaay better than an advantage. Seriously a final starting with a 1:0 advantage? Bullshit. Not having to play the extra games teams play in the losers is a big enough 'advantage'

I mean let's say you lose the winner's finals. Then after you win 1 game(after losing, mind you), you're in even footing against the team you just lost to.
