Its quite effective actually, nTh's pick for a carry this game really wasn't that good however. They have made Gyro work well before in the support role. Edit: was horribly mistaken with my last sentence.

Before Nth started running support Gyro all the time they ran Loda on carry Gyro all the time. Overall it's a fine hero in both cases, but Nth overvalue it. Nth is just so gimmicky, they are supposed to be the ones that study opponents the most and rely more on their strategy, but they just kind of play dumb and unreliable nonsense so often.

Akke runs Gyro as support quite often, and for the most part it is effective. Aside from the mindgames of picking Gyro and your opponents not knowing whether that is your carry, a trilane support, or mid, he has a good set of skills that help gank in the early/mid game with minimal items, and can transition into a strong late-game. I think the problem that game was definitely the PA pick (wtfz?) and letting XBOCT free-farm on Phantom Lancer, which is a big no-no. That hero needs to be shut down early and fast, but their draft didn't really let them do that because if they sent 2 or even 3 heroes down there to gank him, they would get counter-initiated by Dendi/Puppey. NTH is pretty good at running unconventional supports, and it lends strength to their draft because teams don't know if that Gyro or Sven is in a farming role or not until they see the rest of the picks. It works, but you do have to structure your draft around it and picking a wonky carry like PA against Na'Vi is probably not the smartest decision.
