This is the second time Liquid first picked wisp, then bought a midas on the wisps ganking buddy (it was ck before) and then lose horribly. I think their reasoning is that the wisp doesn't really gank, that it just threatens the ganks and wins by outfarming the enemy. But if you buy a midas, the ganks are not really that threatening, as we saw this game. Plus, if the enemy are just bruteforce push you, a midas is the last item you want to have.

Well they never did a Wisp gank and didn't have a really good partner for him. Assuming DK was supposed to be the partner, why not pick Sven or Tiny, who do the job better?

The wisp pick just didn't make any sense to me.

You can't gank against a 5man lineup who just barrels down a lane.

CK would have offered much less.

Liquid's entire strategy was the problem, not who wisp was ganking with. Of course it's not like it was impossible to win, but if you need ganks and the enemy is fine with 5-manning, you're going to have a problem.

The lost there was that Bulba didnt get wall. Not even level 1. I saw so many great vacuums then expected to see a big wall, but he never leveled it. Gotta get pass the 3/4/2/0 syndrome and just get a early wall vs push heavy compositions.

TA was the partner.

Which is why it didn't make sense. Why not put TA mid and DK lane with Wisp and KotL?

DK mid was fine imo, the thing is that if they wanted to go for a farming hero to go for midas and couple with the wisp to guaratee safe farm a Sven or something makes more sense. You don't need another ganking hero if you are already forcing their team to 5man.

I guess they may have overestimated Kotl's antipush, specially against a bat that was picking him off every time. They also had no reliable stuns to prevent bat from picking him off.

Besides they were coming back, but Korok getting caught then failed to steal aegis - 2 lost teamfights + rosh. Big mistakes made the game not Wisp.

West just has a whole bunch of teams that on any given day can beat each other. You can't invite them all though

tl qualified for g1 smashing through the lower bracket right before invites came out really helped them with their spot.

Well presumably the western qualifier teams are practicing a bit more hardcore than the invites currently.

And either way, EG has always done well against Liquid in recent history.

Yes that was what I noticed as well. Outside of pickofs, the fights were really close and came down to which team had more overall damage. DS wall gives you the edge in damage. Maybe Bulba needs to adopt Bone7's skillbuild.

TA was the partner.

Which is why it didn't make sense. Why not put TA mid and DK lane with Wisp and KotL?

You can't risk TA mid vs. the possible Bat mid. Consider the possible lane arrangements:

Bat vs TA mid, BM vs DK safe - TA gets crushed, DK freefarms and BM stacks ancients/jungles
Bat vs DK mid, BM vs TA safe - DK loses slightly, but stalemates with Bottle, TA freefarms and BM stacks ancients/jungles
BM vs TA mid, Bat vs DK safe - BM loses slightly but stalemates with Bottle, DK freefarms and Bat jungles
BM vs DK mid, Bat vs TA safe - BM and DK both stalemate, TA freefarms and Bat jungles

The average outcome is better if you put TA safe lane, because the safe laner freefarms regardless, and Bat doesn't crush DK as hard if they put Bat mid.

Slightly off-topic but I just looked through the odds on dota2lounge for all the matches they have on the front-page. All of them were won by the favorite except for some EG matches. (and staff-cup but that doesn't count)

EG quickly became quite good, but IMO they're not quite on TL's level yet. They always do better against the US teams though (for example, they've won the last 3 BO3's against Dignitas), so if I was into betting, I probably would've even bet on EG. Yes I realize that sounds paradoxical.

I don't know why that would sound paradoxical, you bet for the team with the best odds not the best team. And EG has been underestimated for a bit too long so their odds are always very good.

That's the thing with dota2lounge though, because the barrier to entry is so low compared to real money betting, people don't really think things through too much and the lines are always very good for betting on "underdogs".
