I mean, Na'vi have been in the finals two years in a row, and Alliance are undefeated and look like a title contender. Going to Korea -- for a SC2 player -- means you get to practice with the top coaches, deepest pool of talent, and get to play on the SC2 server. Korea is far and away the best players in SC2. You're right. I think the field right now is completely level. Normally China seems to be behind in strategy but ahead in execution, but at this international we see china lagging behind in both aspects. The chinese do have a certain clutchness that allows them to pull through against foreigners a lot of the time (LGD effect), but beyond that I think teams like Na'Vi and Alliance just out-strategize and outplay Chinese teams. In starcraft Korea is ahead on strategy and on a different level completely in execution. Starcraft is one of those games that emphasizes mechanics so much, while Dota emphasizes a lot of soft aspects like communication and teamwork that aren't as clear-cut. I hope when Dota finally gets support in China (a Chinese client, Perfect World actually launching the damn game) the Dota scene picks up again in China and we see the Chinese teams improve. I don't know why I love the China(Korea) vs foreigner dynamic so much, but I'd be really sad to see Dota homogenize in terms of playstyle and identity. | ||
