Bottles let you store runes in them, allowing you to activate the rune whenever you want.
Envy saw a double damage rune. If he had just activated it, it would have expired long before the fight at the rax. He bought a bottle so he could store the double damage and activate it during the fight, letting him hit for twice the damage during a really critical moment in the game.

He just alerted pieliedie who was farming bottom that his Dotasense was tingling and that there was gonna be a gank at bottom, which we the spectators knew was happening but he probably didn't know for sure. Just good game sense.
Avoided a kill bot, but the same smoke gank moved mid instead and got 3 kills and a tower from that.

I would claim that the money MLG makes from playing ads(that would actually get blocked by adblock) is such a small portion of their entire revenue, that it isn't relevant at all.
And they also only show ads on a few regions, so your statement is pretty much wrong

if shukuchi isn't enough to allow you to escape having boots probably wouldnt have made a difference

No idea on him, but I know I'm not the only person that consistently gets adverts that are too bandwidth-heavy to actually work properly on our connection, thus leading us to have to try to refresh the stream or just pray the five minutes of stuttering adverts will let us watch content eventually.

Ok, thanks, I missed the DD rune somehow, and thought the bottle was long-term plan for the endgame. Also Lumi mentioned something about a theorycrafting thread and I got curious what he meant.

It only enhances attribute given and base dmg though (iirc).

He goes for different builds. His no boots build is a common one.
