How long will it take to move me up? Currently I'm practicing carries and getting pretty high kda, if that helps. This question is hard to answer when I dont know anything about your skills. Sure you will be playing your less comfortable heroes but if you are a human of average intelligence you will probably not play that much worse then you do with your comfortable heroes in ranked. I would assume that the more you win in unranked the worse teammates you get and the better your opponent will become. All this is an assumption that you are ahead of the average dota player and I also assume that the majority of players that is ahead of the average dota players will be playing ranked dota. This leads to the assumption that you will be an anomaly in unranked and the algorithm will fix this by giving you lesser teammates to achieve an even game. Not saying that your games will ever become hard in unranked but they should become harder if you keep winning. In the end I am just guessing. One other thing to note is that playing carries is probably the easiest way of playing unranked as in these games people care less about the result usually giving you more time for killing creeps and chosing your engagements.

I failed to ready up just then and it said i was prevent from matchmaking for 30 minutes. I've never had it that long before. I failed to ready up one before that today, but I hadn't abandoned any games in ages. Does the penalty increase from 5 minutes to 30 minutes if you do fail to ready up twice in a day? Seems pretty severe, considering I couldn't queue even queue for unranked. It has been increased because it was not that uncommon to get 3/4 failed queues in a row before. Good change imo. Let's assume each failed queue takes 2 minutes to each other players, that's a total of 36 minutes more waiting in queue for other players. You don't lose more time than you made them lost.

Where did you get 36 minutes more waiting from? :s I was more asking if anyone knew exactly how it worked anyway.

some get it even before they max w. if you see someone who literally only goes qw until both are maxed before getting any e, they are bad

I asked the question after seeing this (going for more Q after max W).

I'm pretty sure it was increased so that it would be harder for people to abuse matchmaking by queuing up vs themselves and intentionally feeding. Either way, I'm pretty sure it goes 2 min -> 10 min -> 30 min or something like that.

The funny thing is that it somehow seems to work, when I bought it on cm i got bkb agha and did so much damage. I think one reason might be because of the new patch and that almost every game goes late so having the extra lvls as well as gold makes it worth buying it.

It's getting to the point where I'm almost always getting, like I can't play without not buying it. Yesterday I bought it on clockwerk because for some reason my team wanted me to go mid. I buy it on supports too, bought it cm the other day and got super farmed for a support. On some heroes I buy it pretty much every time I play that hero, like SF, invoker, luna and on others it depends if I get really good farm then I might get it on heroes like ck and weaver. Hell sometimes I get it even thought I had a terrible laning phase. Buy midas because I got farm, bought midas because i got bad farm and need to catch up. The last game I saw this was IAP vs. Zephyr (The Summit), where the Invoker was playing for IAP. So, granted, this is perhaps not the highest level of play and does not serve as case to generalize from. When I go QW, I might max W first, but I leave Q alone at some point. I guess lots of Q means you get a long duration cold snap (many instances = long chain disable).
